Downgraded guts made this a bad purchase
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this due to the wonderful aleph cameras that proceeded this one that I owned (300 and 330). This was very disappointing. The 330 is far superior and I instantly understood why they had this priced so well. It isn't very good and unfortunately I was so I disappointed that I returned it.

Brilliant Point and Shoot
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased another camera a year ago (Nikon), and despite the fact that it was waterproof, and had lots of interesting features, I never used it because the features were hard to access. That's when I purchased this camera-- I am so glad to have a Canon again. The features are easy to access, it takes excellent pictures and takes them quickly! I highly recommend this camera!

HQ User Friendly HD camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very User friendly camera for beginners. Purchased for $199. It is a 16mp camera with 1080p video. It has a good sensor and lens, so it produces high quality images. The lens and sensor matter more than the megapixel count. I have an old KODAK easyshare C653 6.1mp camera that takes better pictures than a Samsung PL120 14.2mp for that reason. For video, I prefer using the 720p setting so the battery lasts longer, and it is still very good quality. It has Wi-Fi, so you can transfer your videos and pictures to your pc that way, or directly to Facebook if you have an internet connection. I prefer to just put the memory card in the pc myself and copy & paste to the destination I want. The default auto settings seem to work very well, but there are other settings and features once you get more familiar with the camera. It has the usual delay mode for setting the camera down to tae group pictures with the photographer. The timer can be custom set up to a 30 second delay if you want, and up to 10 pictures can be taken before setting it again. Or you can use a feature that when it detects a smile, or wink, it will take a picture. There is less than 1 second delay after taking a picture until the still image is off the screen and you can tae another picture. The 12x optical zoom works great and can make high quality 8x10 photos. The 24x digital zoom is good too and works good with 5x7, but I haven't tried it for 8x10 yet. The 48x digital zoom is ok, but does lose some quality. Video: It can use the 12x optical zoom for video, and unlike some other cameras, with the Canon Powershot ELPH 340 HS, you CAN zoom in and out while recording video. The microphone is located in the front of the camera too, so your fingers don't cover it.

Dissapointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this camera very excited about the wifi feature only to find it has to go through an access point. You can't connect directly between the camera and your laptop or tablet unless there is an internet access point to go through as you are transferring pics via a website and not directly from the camera to your laptop or tablet. So I found myself still having to remove the memory card to insert in the computer. What a waste of a feature. I gave the camera away as a christmass present. Basically the wifi is useless on the go/on the road and inconvenient even at home having to go through an access point. Apparently this access point requirement from what I can tell is standard for wifi cameras. It's the only device I have ever heard of that needs an access point to connect a wifi device to another wifi device. What a waste! All my other wifi devices at home connect to each other with or without an access point. But not cameras apparently. Takes good pics but I bought it for the wifi feature to find out it was useless and difficult to set up the web wifi feature. Glad it's gone once I gave it away. It was a constant irritating reminder of a poorly designed product feature. Took good pics I guess just useless/inconvenient design for the wifi feature. I contacted Canon company, there's no way around the access point they said.

Great camera for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this camera all the time. Even replaces my video camera most of the time. Takes very nice pictures (not sure about low light pics yet). It even takes fairly good video. The image stability is ok (on par for a point and shoot camera).

The perfect camera for me
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this camera as a gift. My last camera was several years old, and too big to handle. This camera is slim and will easily fit in my purse. I read the instructions, and it is easy to use. I really like the bigger screen, as it helps me see better when I take pictures and view them!

good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was a good camera. the pictures look better on the computer than I expected, mostly because I wasn't too impressed at first. But after looking at them for a bit they were decent. not great, but decent.

Great camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera is especially easy to use for everyone who had a Canon camera before. Nothing changed much when it comes to menu and functions. Really good quality pictures and nice extra effects.

Short on Easy Use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Problems: Have to remove the battery to charge it. Takes 2.5" hours to charge battery. Charge doesn't last long enough. No touch screen. WiFi didn't work - which is a problem with my firewall, but only way to upload photos was removing the SD card. Not very good up close focus Pro: Light Weight Best Buy made it easy to return this. Cash Back - no questions asked. Thank you!

Don't Buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, my last Canon was a great camera, had over 10,000 pics on it,I wore it out Needed to replace it . I go to car shows every week and shoot an average of a couple of hundred pics per show. This one , first time using it had problems seeing screen (even after brightening up the screen), the second time using it I noticed the screen had lines on it , by the end of the day there were lines all over the screen, I did buy 3 yr. extra warranty , and was told by sales person, if something happened they would replace camera, nothing was said about fixing it! took it in today (only 1 month old today) and was told they would have to send it out(2 to 3 weeks) and that they would most likely have to replace it anyway, Was told I could buy another one until they figure out what they are going to do.Now I'm in the middle of car show season with no camera So instead of doing the right thing and exchanging the camera , they have lost me as a customer forever, I wll never buy anything from Best Buy again

Wifi capabilities!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The camera is okay for the price! I pretty much baught it because it uses wifi and I baught the canon selphy printer! It's user friendly and you can send pics from camera to printer or cell phone from camera! Not the best quality pic! I think an iphone6 takes better pictures.

great night time pics
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this camera for night time pictures. It does better than my SLR. The one aspect I don't like is it is hard to adjust the closeness and it is easy to get too close or too far away.

Image clarity is terrible, old processor
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The image clarity/detail is absolutely terrible, this is the 340 yet the processor is older than the one on the 330. You can't crop or enlarge the images because the data isn't there..the image just pixelates. Very poor image quality. Colors are also washed out. I went on vacation and on day one I immediately noticed something wrong with the images. Also the battery does not last very long, only a few hours. I just now bought a Sony Cybershot as a replacement, not sure what I'm going to do with this canon paperweight.

nice small camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the camera in that it is easy to use, but what I like best about it is its ability to take great pictures, even in low light situations that my SLR did not do well with. It is a little difficult to set the size of the picture and it would easily go too big or too small.
