Customers regard the PowerShot G7 X 20.2-Megapixel Digital Camera highly for its impressive image quality, ease of use, and compact size, frequently praising the flip screen and autofocus capabilities. Many appreciate its value for the price. However, a common criticism centers around the camera's relatively short battery life.

Decent quality
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Irritating that it doesn't come with a usb cord to upload images nor does it suggest a brand that will actually work. I have yet to upload my images because I cannot find a cord that is comparable. Also, you have to be careful when holding the camera because if you put your finger in the wrong spot, you might kill all the sound.

Nice Camera .. But you different from the S series
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife purchased this camera for me Christmas as a gift. I have an s100 that I wanted to upgrade because I love the touchscreen feature on my 70D. The g7x is bigger and heavier than the s100, but it's certainly smaller than my 70D! Since I'm a big guy I can still fit the g7x in my pocket. The camera is much faster and the wait between pictures is short .. I'm not a fan of the record button and I hit it a few times by accident.. but I shut it down in the menu. Wifi has improved and is much easier to use than when I started with the 70d. Because the aperture is f1.8 - f/2.8, I can get faster shutter speeds in low light .. I loved the pictures on the s100 and I've found these to be sharper and more colorful. I can't wait to take this on vacation!!

Good, not great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As an RX100 owner, I have been been, generally, pleased with the overall performance of the camera, but disappointed in two very important areas: color reproduction (even in RAW) and image stabilization. Sony fails miserably in both of these areas. The Canon G7X is far better at both, but fails to produce the out of camera color that longtime Canon users are accustomed to. The upside is that unlike Sony's RAWs, Canon's are quite malleable in post; even running the RAW files through DXO at default settings produces excellent results. In terms of speed and focusing, the G7X does well, though I have noticed a tendency for it to back focus when trying to shoot small objects (e.g. flowers) as the subject. Noise control is very good, as can be expected considering it shares a sensor with the RX100; Canon, however, has less NR and sharpening in their JPEGs than Sony. One of my primary problems with this camera is durability. I just purchased my second G7X as the automatic lens cap on the first became jammed within 2 weeks of use. Keep that in mind if you are considering purchasing a gray market (import) model, as these models will not carry the manufacturer warranty. Overall, the G7X is a good but not great camera. If you are comparing it against one of the RX100 models, you will find them to have better focusing, but considerably poorer color reproduction and image stabilization. If you are comparing it against the G1X Mark II, the G1X Mark II has a better lens and color reproduction, but it is far too big to to be pocketable so keep that in mind.

Beautiful Pics
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I had been looking at this for some time and decided to pull the trigger when they dropped the price by $50. I've had it for a couple of weeks and the pictures are fantastic compared to other point and shoots. I am certainly not a professional, but was looking for something that would take great pics of the kids and allow me to get back into photography as a hobby. The "bokeh" really sets this camera apart from all others in the point-and-shoot class. I had considered a DSLR, but I like to be more discreet when taking shots/video. I'm sure the Sony RX100 series is great as well, but I loved the touchscreen on my S110 and didn't want to lose that functionality. Also, the zoom on the newest Sony seemed like too great of a sacrifice. I'm big on video as well and it appears to do very well in low light, which is important to me. There is a function that takes short videos and stills at the same time, which seems like it has the potential to be useful and fun. If you've read other reviews, you've heard complaints about the battery life. I took quite a bit of video and pictures in one outing and had no problem. If you are the type of person that takes hundreds of shots and an hour of video at a time, I'm sure the cost of a spare is worth it to you.

Perfect for both worlds
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love using this camera for video and taking photos. It has a great light range and autofocus, especially with videos. The flip up screen is super useful. It's bigger than a point and shoot, but that is expected for the quality. Great for YouTubers, making more professional videos, or taking general photos. The quality is definitely great. I've been using my camera for a few months now and haven't had a single problem.

Great point & shoot alternative to my DSLR
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this camera for a trip to Paris & Prague this past summer. I wanted a quality point & shoot so I wouldn't have to lug my DSLR, lenses & flash everywhere we went. I took some shots locally before we left and fell in love with this little camera. The pics from Paris & Prague were amazing, especially the night shots. The large sensor works great with the lens to give DSLR quality pics. The only downside is the limited zoom. I take it with me wherever I go now. Great camera.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My girlfriend and I purchased this camera because we do daily vlogging on YouTube. We love this camera! The quality is outstanding. We love the flip up LCD screen which is perfect for selfies and vlogging. I definitely recommend this camera! I know it's a little pricey, but it is worth it!

My go-to camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera packs a punch! Originally I purchased it to use more for vlogging purposes, but after seeing how great it also is at taking pictures, it's become my go-to camera. There are many settings. You can leave it on auto and it creates a nice blurry background for your pictures. I've also taken stunning pictures with stars in the background without compromising the quality or subject of those pictures. Because of its small size, it's easy to carry around. I don't have a case for it yet, and I usually just put it in my bag or pocket. It's very durable! It does have its faults. Because of the way it's designed, it's easy to accidentally block the microphone while shooting videos. The battery life isn't the best although it does last long enough. If using it actively throughout the day, you will have to charge it at the end of the night. I've also noticed that over time, after recording videos it sometimes takes a while to get to the playback screen to see your gallery. Although it could use some minor improvements, it's overall an amazing camera!

As of mid 2016, OUTDATED camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When evaluating this camera, please read the most recent reviews and compare the specs to recently introduced cameras. This camera was released in 2014, and several 2016 cameras have better performance for a cheaper price. The 2 star rating reflects its rating as of August 2016. This camera was released over 2 years ago, and since then cameras have come a long way in terms of improvements. The $600+ price tag probably justified the price for this camera in 2014, and possibly the earlier part of 2015, but definitely not in 2016. There are much better options available at this price range. 1. The lens on this camera is a fixed F1.8-2.8, 24mm equivalent, on which the optics are subpar for this price range. 2. The sensor used on this camera is a BSI CMOS measuring 13.2 x 8.8mm, relatively sensor size for this price range. This type of sensor is obsoleted by the new APS-C sensors that are available on modern cameras. 3. This camera uses Canon's DIGIC 6 Image Processor, which is over 2 years old and is now obsoleted by the DIGIC 7 Image Processor. 4. This camera only supports MOV, MP4 video recordings, at a top video frame rate of 1080p/60, at 34Mbps. Image Quality: Surprisingly, despite the lens and sensor, the image quality is surprisingly good for a point and shoot. However, the image quality is subpar for other cameras in this price range as of 2016. Video Quality: The video quality is good for a point and shoot camera for everyday recordings, but falls very short for anything requiring some level of production quality, such as vloging, youtube videos, etc. If considering this camera in 2016, I would suggest only buying it if you can buy it for less than $300. Otherwise, consider getting the PowerShot G7 X Mark II, which is a newer version of this camera. However, as a photo enthusiast and video blogger, I highly recommend considering a DSLR or mirror-less APS-C camera that uses a detachable lens system. While I understand that DSLR cameras are too bulky, the future for point and shoot cameras are mirror-less APS-C and newer sensor technologies. As alternatives to this camera, I would consider the following: 1. Olympus OM-D 2. Sony Alpha 6300, 6000, and 5100. 3. Fujifilm X-T1 4. Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7, or DMC-GM1 Search for "best mirrorless cameras" in 2016 to find better available options.

It's nothing special
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am not sure how this camera has such rave reviews. I am a camera snob and this camera is a joke. It certainly isn't the best pocket camera money can buy, not even close. This isn't even a good camera for somebody who isn't knowledgeable about photography. Now I understand why almost all of the reviews done on Youtube were not shot with the G7x. I went to three best buys in my area and none had this in stock. I was a bit confused by the lack of cameras. I was informed they were all re-doing their displays. Tax season isn't a wise time to do so lol. I ordered online, I gave it a week of play. The lens is very soft, to soft. Failed horribly at the macro test. Most people are going to use this on auto. Colors aren't very true at all. The focusing is a joke compared to other Canon cameras. The video looks good but the internal mic sounds tinny ...trapped in a box. No external mic input. I set up our wifi which wasn't complicated. I think anybody could figure it out. The second time I went to use the wifi function it prompted me to re-do everything. When I used the wheel on the back my thumb would hit the menu button. The menu button felt like it was going to pop off if I whacked it while spinning the wheel. I have average size lady hands. Would a camera company please put a record button on the front of a camera. The touch screen is SO SLOW. One more thing placement of on/off switch, don't like it. Obviously, I didn't hold this to a dslr standard because I'm not an idiot. I reviewed this camera as somebody who would want a convenient quick camera that takes good photographs and takes decent videos. There are many better options that are around the same price or cheaper. I just can't believe how "satisfied" people are at this price point with this mediocre camera. Canon ... what were you thinking?
