Horrible Autofocus
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera has to be one of the worse cameras with auto focus. It’s useless when you are trying to film on the go so it’s not really a “point and shoot” camera.

My absolute favorite
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been a canon fan for years and this is my sixth canon camera, my g7x mark ii has been my absolute favorite camera I own for a couple years now. When I found out this Mark iii was coming out and read about the upgrades it was given I was thrilled. I always tell people my g7x is my dlsr quality camera in a point and shoot size and it is true, it has been the only camera I take with me on trips now, and it is small enough to get into concerts with, giving me ridiculously great concert photos and videos every time. Once I got this camera in my hands I saw the physical changes that I was glad canon made on this Mark iii, the slightly lighter weight, even thinner screen, and improved hand/thumb grips. I have never once been disappointed by the quality of my photos and videos from my Mark ii, it is my preferred camera over my t5i and there is absolutely no question that the photos and videos from the mark ii to the t5i are on a whole different level of quality. However, it amazes me that with the mark iii and its 4k video capabilities and its image stabilizer, that quality I have come to know and love is now even better. I have taken quite a few videos for comparison and the difference between 4k and 1080p is not as drastic of an improvement as I was hoping for but it is still unbelievably high quality. The g7x mark iii seems to do just as well in low light conditions as had the mark ii. That was something that has always impressed me from the g7x camera is how well it exceeded in low light conditions, it has never been something I had to worry about. I mentioned the screen being even thinner now and it is the best camera screen I have ever worked with. Not only is it massive, but its touch sensitivity is nearly cell phone quality. The image quality of the screen also exceeds expectations, I've had many cameras where when looking at my photos or videos on camera the quality was just lacking but when looked at on a computer they were fine. However this display quality of the g7x mark ii and iii is so good, I get so excited about my photos before I even import/edit them because I can see how great the quality already is. I think it has also helped me take better photos as well, it is easier to make adjustments to your photo taking when you have a high quality and accurate display to go off of. Aside from the quality of the screen, the adjustable/multi angle function has been a lifesaver many times already. I am pretty short and when at concerts or sporting events I always have to put my arms up in the air to get photos or videos, with the ability to angle the screen down towards me, it means I don't have to hope I'm getting the frame I want. I've also had many situations where my g7x was on a tripod at about chest height and instead of bending down to see my display, I can simply angle it up and be very comfortable while working with the camera. The multi angle screen function was something I never really thought I'd use but once I realized how useful it is, I regularly use it. Another function that is very useful is the wifi and/or bluetooth connection. It is again one of those abilities I never really felt I needed, until it was there for me to use and now I couldn't imagine not having it. The connecting via wifi is very useful when it works, I've noticed on my mark ii connecting was usually pretty finicky but I've been working a lot with the mark iii instead and it seems to be just as finicky. When it does work, it works great, however it is getting the initial connection to happen seems to be a struggle on both models. My one and only complaint about this g7x mark iii camera is the menu/user interface got more complicated. Luckily it looks pretty much the same and if you are familiar with the canon interface you will be able to jump right into this one. However the menu got more cluttered on this model and for example the time lapse function is way more complicated to use now on the mark iii than the mark ii is. As someone who loves time lapses I was disappointed to see how much digging in menus and buttons and screen touching has to be done to start a time lapse. On my mark ii, it is about 2-3 clicks and its recording and it is easy to start another one right away. On the new model, time lapse function always defaults at disabled when the camera is first turned on and again after a time lapse has been created. You first have to go into the menu, enable the time lapse function again, then set your settings, then click the record button, then click the shutter button. I don't understand why the ability to take a time lapse had to be so buried in the menus, I was upset I even had to research how to make a time lapse on the mark iii because on the mark ii it is so simple and easy to get to. Hopefully this is something canon can change with software updates? Other than the more cluttered interface and menu options, I have zero complaints about this camera and I highly recommend it to anyone at any photography skill level. As someone who takes photography classes and does photography jobs on the side, I never thought I'd prefer a smaller camera over my dlsr camera but my g7x changed that for me, its versatility is unmatched and the quality it brings is well worth the price.

Shy Short of being perfect...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Canon has made something special here and it's a great camera. Perfect for blogging and traveling with lightweight. Powershot GX7 is packed with features that are insane. in fact, it has everything I could want in a modern digital camera. But I want to talk about the shortcomings and get this out of the way early in the review; The AutoFoucs is not that great even after a new firmware, and that's a shame because this is could be something special if Canon just take the steps to make it great. It's having issues trying to focus on "Mode 1." is the mode to use. But it somewhat struggles still getting on the person's face this is much better than using "mode 2" in my opinion but that's not a high prise. "Mode 2" is the worst of the focus and I would stay away from this one entirely as it takes seconds to focus on the subject's face. This is a huge drawback and I don't know why they would hinder this otherwise great camera. The second thing I want to get out of the way is that the camera does overheat when shooting in 4K (up to 10 mins) and will dial it back to 1080p when the symbol pop up on the screen. Not a huge issue to me but I can see how this could be annoying to a blogger as they want to showcase the very best. Everything else is perfect here. The camera can connect to Wifi to Livestream directly with your YouTube channel and others, There is a vertical video shooting that can help you when holding it in the right or left hand. This is great if you want to use it as a selfie cam, and The camera is very ergonomic when using it. The touchscreen works great when selecting menus as the OS itself is easy to navigate. You can also send images through the iOS app and over Bluetooth to your phone which I love. SD slot allows for more storage for videos and pictures. HDMI out works fine and so does the mic output. Mic is great for getting your voice clearly heard through the video. In a sense, there is no way you can get something like this wrong, with this many features but the Autofocus is just not good still, Needs way more firmware updates or just a brand new product in its line. This thing takes fantastic pictures like a camera when the focus does pop in perfectly. The images are incredibly crisp and sharp. I do enjoy using it more so over my other cameras. A time-lapse video mode is another useful feature. The overall construction of the camera is nice and well-built but I wouldn't be dropping this on the ground anytime soon the GX7 can take a few scuffs. The hinge is super sturdy, nothing feels like it will snap or break when moving the touch screen at the angle you want. 120 FPS is also nice but it's also another thing that causes overheating issues if left on too long... This kinda leads me to believe that even at this price point you can not push this camera too far. If you are a blogger just getting started and want something that's easy to use this is it. For someone who wants more pro features, this is not the camera you should be looking at. I personally never felt so indifferent about a product like this before, I feel as if you are getting something great with this camera with every single feature Canon gives you but what use is the GX7 if the autofocus is not that great? The point of the digital camera is to take clear photos, even better when autofocus is snappy. This is not but its good enough...but that's the problem Canon (we all know) can do better than this. Maybe a few more firmware updates will help this camera but If I was Canon I wouldn't give up on working on the GX7 Series shortcomings. 4/5 stars.

Easy to Use, High Quality Videos
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been using my smart phone for a while to take photos and pictures. Even doing some light video editing with the media. It has been a while since I’ve used a dedicated photo/video device and now I see why so many do, even in the amateur space. If your getting somewhat serious about your hobby, I recommend this camera as your pocket point and shoot or vlog camera. First thing you’ll notice out of the box is the build quality and ergonomic design. This camera is easy to hold if your doing point and shoot photos. The grip is fantastic for taking pictures or recording video. Frequently used buttons are well within reach. The touch screen display looks fantastic. Over time, I’ve found myself using the touch controls more than the navigation wheel. Not to say the navigation wheel isn’t good with its grippy feel and intuitive info graphics. One of the great things about the screen is its ability to fold out for selfies or vlogging. You can use the touch screen to get your picture right before pressing the record button, all while having the camera pointed at the subject matter whether you’re on the front or back of the lens. There are tons of features, many of which I’m still learning about. The advanced user guide you can download from cannons website is extremely useful. The menus are easy to navigate through and setting up the Wi-Fi is easy enough if you can follow the on-screen directions on the camera and your smart phone or computer, whichever you’re connecting it to. The one feature most will find useful is being able to navigate the photos/videos on your smart phone and pick and choose which ones to download. This is especially nice if you want to quickly upload on the go as your phone connects directly to the camera, so it doesn’t require a Wi-Fi network. I did connect this to my iPad as well so I could do some light editing before sharing, so there’s that option available. It works the same as connecting to a mobile device. 4k Video footage looks beautiful. I filmed a short 4k video of a family member blowing out birthday candles. I was pleased with the video quality, even though my lighting was poor, everything turned out very smooth. I was holding the camera by hand, and while the image stabilization helps, it doesn’t work miracles. I would recommend a handheld tripod or gimbal if you’ve not developed a steady hand for opportunist point and shoot moments. I’m happy without the output options for picture and video formats. Being able to snap photos in the raw format and jpeg formats and exporting both opens the door for editing options should you choose to touch up the higher quality output photo. I downloaded Cannon’s Digital Photo Professional 4 for my pc and it allows for editing and converting of the .CR3 files. As for video, recording in 1080 is fine for most situations, but there are moments and footage I want to capture in 4k, especially b-roll footage if I’m working on a project. You can quickly switch modes using the touch screen without thumbing through the menus to make the change. All in all, I’m very happy with the Mark III. I know some reviews complain about the auto-focus. There is a firmware update that will hopefully address this for most as it did for me. Hopefully there is some expandability for uploading to other services in a future update as well.

Great Camera, good connectivity
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So this camera is awesome in quite a few ways and I am really enjoying it. It is not perfect but it depends on what you are looking for. I love what it is trying to do with the connectivity, but the only one that seems to work extremely well is the youTube connection so if that is what your main focus is this might very well be the camera for you. It connects to your phone perfectly fine however, you need to have the app launched and connect to the camera to transfer photos. I would have really loved to see this happen in the background. I would also have loved to see an auto upload to iCanon or google photos without needing to go in and select the image. In the end it was just easier to grab the SD card out of the camera and put them on the computer the old fashioned way. So besides that I pretty much loved this camera. It has a real zoom compared to a phone. The images are awesome and are way better than I can output on my phone. I am more of a point and shoot person, I don't play with affects too much and I definitely am not a talented photo shooter. I played around with the different setting and I really only used about 3 at the end of the day and that was perfect for myself... depending on your skill level you might use more than that but you don't need to. I used the auto focus feature and then could just tap on the screen where I wanted it to focus and it would focus quite fast, otherwise it could take a little time guessing what I wanted to shoot sometimes. The next setting was the multiple shot button. This one is awesome, I got some awesome christmas shots of my kids finally since they are both at that age where they don't smile quite at the right time together. I just held the button down and there was about 1 in the 20 it snapped where they both had nice faces on. The last button that I really used quite a bit was the record button, there was a record button on the wheel but the the really useful button was the record button on the back panel. I could just hit that and it would start recording a video. The last feature I loved about this camera was the touch screen, you could tap on what you wanted to focus on as well as navigate menus extremely easy. As an added bonus the screen flips over and you can take a selfie with it really easily if you so choose Pros: Touch screen Screen can rotate 180 degrees Phone can be used as a remote Delay function to take pictures. YouTube Live functionality Easy to use Point and Shoot works really well Cons: Automatic Connectivity could use some improvement No Facebook Live feature That is pretty much what I have for this. If you are in the market for a great point to shoot camera this is an awesome choice.

Must have Camera!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a professional photographer I love this camera. It is amazing how much tech and options are packed into such a small package. This camera is great for shooting on the go video or behind the scenes. It is also great for vlogging. Canon has given this camera some of the best wireless features which allow you to do things such as YouTube Steaming or easy file transfer to a phone or tablet. It also takes extremely great pictures for being just a point and shoot camera. This is thanks to a wide aperture and large focal lengths. The rear screen is great because it goes down at a slight angle and it can also flip up 180 degrees for selfies or vlogging. At the wide end the focal length is wide enough to shoot videos or photos of yourself handheld. This camera is not able to compete with a DSLR or Mirrorless to its fullest extent but if using it for video or occasional/casual photos it is a great option. The user interface is easy to use but mirrors that of canon DSLR’s which is awesome. The portability and compact size of this camera make it a great option for anyone who would like to get a little more out of their photos or videos without getting a full blown DSLR camera.

Crystal Clear
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Camera is absolutely amazing. The Picture quality is so good. All my pictures come out crystal clear.Love the way it has a touch screen it gives you options to change the setting at a touch of your fingertips which makes it easier to set the Camera the way you want it. The 4K video really creates a sharp image. Another feature is that you can share all the images taken from the camera to your phone. You do have to download an app to your phone. It connects right away. Love the way I dont have to connect any cables just to get the pictures to my phone. It really makes it easy to share your pictures on social media right away. Im so in love with my new camera. Cant wait to take family pictures and capture many memories. Super lightweight as well.

Spectacular hardware; imperfect operation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this primarily for making 4k video creation portable and easy for members of my team at work. The build quality, image quality from the optics & sensor, and physical controls are generally excellent. For those wanting to shoot video, this is one of the only advanced point-and-shoot cameras to combine full-sensor (i.e., uncropped) 4k video shooting, a microphone jack, and a flip-up screen. The reality of using this has fallen short of my hopes. 4k video, as widely reported, causes overheating, making the 10-minute maximum clip length a moot point. Even in cool conditions, the camera shuts itself down due to overheating, even though the body of the camera is not warm to the touch. That suggests that there is inadequate heat sink to allow heat to radiate out of the device. Auto-focus is usable, but far from perfect. No auto-focus system can read one's mind, and a large-ish one-inch sensor means that autofocus accuracy matters more than on a smartphone, where less precise focus accuracy will still get your subject in focus due to the much greater depth of field intrinsic to tiny smartphone image sensors. This WILL recognize faces in most situations where someone is facing the camera. Be ready to switch autofocus modes and to use the touch screen to tell the camera what to focus on in trickier situations. This is pretty terrible for fast action, but it can create perfect results for portraits or anything not moving quickly. And a quick still photo is very possible in full auto face detect in many cases. When in focus, video and photo quality are extraordinary. I have professional full-frame DSLR gear and a Panasonic LX100 II (a larger micro-four-thirds sensor). This produces better RAW files than a one-inch sensor really has any right to. In daylight, I had a hard time distinguishing files from this camera from my $3,000 DSLR, and in dim light, much detail can be mined from the raw files with surprisingly low noise. I purchased this for real estate videos, so the slow-ish auto-focusing system that limits high-speed hunting in favor of smoother, more gradual focus shifting, is generally okay--if it will shoot long enough without overheating. Firmware has already undergone one major update to partially address autofocus issues. I'd love to see another that follows what Sony has done: raise or eliminate the overheating threshold to allow longer and more consistent use of 4k. The closest competitor with a mic jack and uncropped 4k is the Sony RX100 VII. But that is many hundreds of dollars more expensive, and its much longer zoom range means that it lets in less than half the light as compared to this camera at all areas of its shorter (but still very good) zoom range. For vlogging or short 4k video clips with mostly static subjects, the quality and flexibility of having a mic jack cannot be beat.

Nice Point and Shoot
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll state that this is the camera that I've ever owned. The only cameras that I've used have been on cellphones. The Canon PowerShot G7 Mark III is definitely worthy of it's price tag. From taking photos to capturing video, I have not ran into any issues. I'm starting out in the photography world, and this camera is doing a great job for my novice status. You have full control with all controls such as ISO, apeture, f stop, white balance, etc... Also, to address the focusing issues that people have been talking about...With the new firmware update I can say I have not experienced any issues with the auto focus with photos or videos. With the 4k video capture the stabilization is amazing! Even if you were running the video would come out smooth. When transferring photos I tried using the wifi and the sd card I purchased separately. Both worked great so I could edit the pictures afterwards. Only thing is with the CR3 Raw format you have to use certain photo editing software, or convert them. I would have to say that the camera is great for beginners, and for the pro who needs an on the go camera instead of lugging around their DSLR. I will continue to use the Canon PowerShot G7 Mark III until I need a DSLR, but I don't see the need to after using this one!

Great Pictures when it decides to FOCUS
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We live in a generation of cell phone photographs. And why not? The cameras incorporated in modern cell phones are ridiculous The clarity, processing ability, and convenience because its always there. But can cell phones really compete with a modern quality purpose built digital camera? My first impression of the Canon Powershot Mark III was that feels SOLID. This camera is heavier than you would think and you can usually tell the quality of a device my how solid it feels. And to dive further, every knob, button, and switch on this camera feels VERY well made. I have no doubt that this camera will survive travel and usage for some time. When its comes down to using this camera, my experience has been that there is a STEEP learning curve to it. I am not the most experienced in sophisticated camera usage. I have used my Samsung phone a lot, I LOVE using my variety of GoPros, but I wanted to graduate to a true "skilled" camera. There are LOTS of settings, the camera will integrate into your phone, it might even fold laundry for you. I have used this camera very heavily throughout the holidays and I am pretty sure I havent even scratched the surface on what this camera is capable of. What this camera does not do...FOCUS! I have read reviews prior about this camera and seen the complaints regarding the focus speed of this camera, but Canon came out and said this issue was resolved with a software update. It has not. This camera takes a LONG time to auto focus. I took my daughter to see Santa before Christmas and thought this would be a GREAT opportunity to get acquainted with this camera. Static shot in a controlled environment. Easy, right? NOPE. This camera would NOT focus. After 2-3 minutes of my toddler sitting quietly on Santa's lap and behaving extremely well, this camera would not focus at all and I could not get a picture of my little one with Santa at all. Luckily the retail store Santa was at was supplying free pictures. This is unacceptable to me. There was nothing complex to this photo at all. I was able to catch other family photos in different environments, but none more important than the picture I missed out on. Also, going from very cold outside to temperature controlled indoors I have had issues with the lens fogging over and taking a long time to become usable again. With practice, I believe I will get better with this camera. I have a vacation in May in which I am heading out of country and will be taking this camera with me and video blogging. I am hoping by then I can get more familiar and take all of the great pictures and videos in the world. But I still feel that this camera and its auto focus needs an overhaul. Until then, I really can't recommend this camera. Long story short...at present time I can not see a reason to bring this camera with you as its difficulty of use and the auto focus is terrible. Your cell phone will do everything you need and them some. This camera will leave you frustrated. Unless you want to video blog exclusively, there are most likely better options for you out there.

Auto focus issue solved!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm gonna start with the most common question, is it worth it the price?... absolutely! I was worried about the AF because I read many reviews talking about this problem, I decided to take the risk because I knew that canon would release a firmware update. I have to say that I recorded some videos at night before the firmware update, they looked very good even though the auto focus was not working properly. After I download and install the firmware update, I confirm that I chose right, the camera is awesome, I usually use it for video and the Auto Focus works great, the pictures are great too. What I really like the most is the lenses, it is fabulously luminous, it has a great aperture, like I said before, I recorded videos at night and they now look excellent. In summary, this camera amazed me, it is great in every aspect and the size makes it so easy to carry with you anywhere, good for blogging. I highly recommend this camera.

Excellent alternative to a DSLR
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The G7 X III is a great camera for someone who wants to take high quality, high resolution photos without the knowledge and skill required to use a DSLR I do not have a lot of experience with Canon but, this camera is a great point and shoot camera for when I am going somewhere, where my DSLR is too bulky or cumbersome to take. The cameras auto mode is by far the best I have ever used, the white balance, focus and detail is on point in every shot, regardless of lighting quality or condition. It's an excellent choice for both an everyday user to a photographer looking for a smaller more compact choice as it doesn't take away all settings such as ISO, aperture and other options that most point and shoots do. Overall, a very well made, and extremely user friendly camera!

solid camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok. The pictures this thing takes are absolutely beautiful. So clear and detailed. Way better then my other camera. The video it takes is very good too. The 4k resolution makes a huge difference. It is great for streaming. I streamed and shared a couple videos to my social media and they loaded with ease. The feel and style of the camera is great. It's very sleek and comfortable in my hand. The battery has a great life and charges fairly quick. This is a great little camera and definitely a good bang for your buck when compared to others.

A photographer's quick review - It's great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a photographer and always sees great scenes that I want to capture. I think a phone is good, but nothing beats the feeling of actually taking a picture with an actual camera. This camera does that. It has bluetooth technology to connect with your phone, but the most important part is the quality. It looks amazing. The video quality goes up to 4K and it looks fantastic as well for any B-roll video you might need. It does fantastic for the B-roll of my films. The shots can also be processed in RAW so editing the photos looks great.

AF still needs to improve. Stabilization is great.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am coming from using a Sony a6300 and wanted to give this little camera a try as I heard that the Mark II was the camera that vloggers and YouTubers love, and I do family videos for all our trips. I began using this camera this Christmas and the image quality was good but I found myself just taking the pictures with my Sony a6300 because of the better quality. I was encouraged to hear that Canon had released a firmware update that was going to fix the autofocus issues many people complained about, and in my experience the autofocus is still worse compared to my other cameras including the iPhone. Yes, it focus on the subject but it takes a couple seconds to do so and I am just used to the immediate autofocus found on my Sony and iPhone. The only thing I loved about this camera compared to my other cameras is the in-body image stabilization. It really makes your video smooth and is gimbal-like. The flippable screen allows you to always be on the shot and get all the angles you want. Furthermore, I really liked the built-in features such as shooting stars at night. This little lens allowed me to take some really cool video that none of my other cameras allow me to do. All in all, this is an average pocket camera that can take good pictures and video in low light with amazing stabilization, however, if you are shooting difference faces and want a fast autofocus, maybe it's not the best camera for this (at least not yet, let's see if there is a future update).
