I don't have anything to compare this item to with regard to price or use, but it has worked out great for me. Pictures taken indoor with a third party diffuser look great. The subject has more exposure, but the colors remain natural, not washed out. Pictures taken outdoor look much better than they did with the stock flash. Regarding the price, I just don't believe the flash should cost half of what it costs to buy the camera itself.

This is an excellent flash unit. It can be operated attached to the camera, via an extension cord, and wirelessly. It comes with a built-in de-fuser screen that can be pulled out from within the top of the unit and the stored back within the top of the flash unit when not needed. For novices, it can be used completely automatically, and for advanced user, it has all the capabilities necessary for difficult lighting shots.

I've been breaking into photography for the past year. The flash that was recommended me was three times the price. For my current level, this delivers on everything I need. Would definitely recommend.
