Badly Manufactured Bond Disc
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Would be a 0 but not an option. Defective/glitchy disc. Not surprised. I bought and returned 4 of the boxed sets of Craig-Bond films. 4! At least 2 discs in every set, sometimes all, were bad. No reflection on Best Buy.

A dark re-imagining of the Bond series
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For years the producers of the James Bond series have been looking to go back to the beginning. Finally, they made this film, Casino Royale, which is fairly faithfully based upon Ian Fleming's novel about the iconic hero. Daniel Craig makes his debut as Bond, and between his acting and the rawer, more realitsic script, Bond is as gritty as he's ever been, a man who is sometimes burtal and unrefined as an agent and is given to being cold and remorseless about his job. The film begins with Bind receiving his 00 status, and while on his first assignment as 007, he manges to kill asuspect and blow up an embassy. His infuriated superior, M, sends him on vacation to let things die down, but Bond instead chooses to follow a lead in the Carribean. This leads to connections to a man named Le Chiffre, who plays the role of financier to the world's terrorists, and soon Bond is sent to Montenegro to play Le Chiffre in a poker showdown to try to bankrupt the villain. This is a unique Bond film in nearly every way. Firstly, there is a heavy emphasis upon the plot, and only a few major action scenes, none of which even border upon the realm of ridicule. Also, there are no gadgets present at all, and Bond's womanizing leads to an actual romance with Vesper Lynd, the Royal Treasury employee who is sent to watch over Bond. Some will not enjoy this film because they will feel it is too different from earlier efforts. However, it is unfair to judge it that way, since more of the same is what has lead to weaker efforts such as Die Another Day. i recommend this movie to anyone who is willing to let go of their expectations and enjoy a truly good film in its own right.

Bond is better than ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.James Bond fans have been given very little to rejoice about in recent years. For some, the disappointments begin as far back as cheese-ball character diversions like Roger Moore telling a Bengal Tiger to "sit" in Octopussy. That said, there have been some good Bond films since Moore's departure, but none could really be considered great until this recent release of Casino Royale. Daniel Craig brings back the rough and tumble image lacking in previous Bond stars like Pierce Brosnan. If anything, this Bond is almost too rough. Make no mistake that Craig is exceptional in this role. In my opinion, he's second only to Sean Connery. Craig brings a hard edge to the character that is very welcome. Casino Royale has all the great things one should expect from the Bond series, and few of the things we've come to dislike. A lot of time is spent in the casino, which for me, was an incredibly welcome reminder of what made the older Bond films so interesting. I love when a filmmaker can build tension around a gambling scene and this one definitely hits the mark. Of course, there are beautiful women, exotic places, incredible cars, and a creepy villain. Judi Dench reprises her role as M, which is one of the recent Bond movie decisions of which I wholeheartedly approve. True fans will appreciate the re-appearance of Bond's CIA friend, Felix Leiter, who's character also appeared in Dr. No (Jack Lord), Goldfinger (Cec Linder) and others. I have not compared this version to the DVD version, but something in the Blu-ray transfer of the film seems to have a yellow tint to it. Maybe the Director chose to shoot it with this style, but it looked like something was off on the colors. I'm using a well-calibrated 1080p projector and the colors seem off on this film compared to dozens of others I've screened. I found that changing the preset on the projector to one of its factory presets resulted in a suitable color shift, but this is the only film with which I've had to do this. Sound and picture are amazing on this disc. The first ten minutes have been one of the best demonstration materials I've played for guests. The opening sequence is less violent than the same section in Saving Private Ryan, but equally as heart-pounding. To conclude, if you gave up on the Bond series back when it got goofy with films like Moonraker, you really owe it to yourself to come back to the series with this one. If you've remained a Bond fan your whole life and have been hoping for anything Bond on Blu-ray, wait no further. This is top-tier Bond excitement at its best.

best bond yet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this is arguably the best 007 movie to be made. the only bond movies that are even close to being as good as this is:from russia with love, goldfinger, golden eye, and die another die. daniel craig is my favorite bond next to sean connorey. he is great in this and is the most athletic bond yet. the frist fight that goes from a cunstruction site to a heavily guarded building was great and no matter how fake and unrealistic you might think it is, its really about 90% real. daniel craig had to really keep up to the black guy and the black guy is a free runner from france, so he really did all that stuff. the story is pretty good and not so hard to follow. all the action scenes are extremely well done. all the cast is great. now, if your not one for really long movies, then youll be bored alot throughtout this one. its almost 2 1/2 hours long but i dont care, i like long movies for the most part. but the ending does drag out a bit and they spend way to much time playing poker. but you wont follow the whole parker thing at all. and they dont use so many gadgets mainly because this is about how bond got started. so if your a huge fan of bond and even if your not, chances are youll like it a lot.

Make way for the next generation of 007!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife and I love this movie! I know there are some Bond geeks out there that may disapprove of the new Bond films, and will stick to thier guns saying that no one will ever be as good as Connery, Moore, or even Brosnan. But, the new Bond film and Daniel Craig have started a new era of 007. Don't get me wrong, I still love and respect the old Bond films I grew up watching as a kid. It's just that the new Bond is more intense and more realistic. Yes, it was cool watching the old Bonds get shot at and go through explosions only to come up without a scratch and straighten thier ties. I like Craig's Bond because he can be sleek and sharp when he needs to be, but when the bullets start flying and the hand-to-hand combat ensues, he's not afraid to get in there and get his hands dirty or lose the suit if necessary. He's the roughneck Bond, not the pretty boy Bond. And for that, I have more respect for him as the new Bond. Not to mention, the new films are much more fast paced, action packed, and intense from the very first scene to the very last. I highly recommend this film and the new one, Quantum of Solace!

Back To Basics
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After Die Another Die it was clear that Bond had gotten into the silly and almost too full of cheese territory. A new approach was needed and, as they should have, the producers returned to Flemming and went back to the basics. Gone were the gadgets that had become a staple of the series for decades and the humor that overwhelmed story. Finally, Bond was a spy again. The film also decided to focus on character and gave us a richer Bond. He was now a flawed person that made mistakes and got angry. One aspect that did carry over was the elaborate stunt work that is to be expected during the fight sequences. Also, surprisingly, Judi Dench remained as M. Once again she nailed it and make it clear it was her show to run. Martin Campell once again launched another Bond and he was one for the modern age. The start of the Craig era is solid, and should not be missed. This Bond is most definitely required viewing.

Best movie of 2006
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Resetting the legendary James Bond franchise, Casino Royale takes things to a whole new level for a character that desperately needs it. After a few sub-par outings with actor Pierce Brosnan (which were not Brosnan's fault, by the way), Casino Royale comes along to be perhaps the best Bond movie ever. For the first time, we get to see Bond's start: he's just become a double O agent and is on his first assignment. What makes this film so different from the others is that Bond is given a soul; he has a heart. We can see he truly cares for the love interest, Vesper Lynd. What facilitates this is the absolutely outstanding acting job by Daniel Craig. He brings a depth and emotion to the character that not even Sean Connery brought way back when. Not only perhaps the best Bond movie ever, but also the best Bond ever. The only real flaw I can think of is that maybe the movie runs just a bit too long at about 2:20. But it's a minor complaint, because it sure doesn't feel that long. If you're a fan of films, this is one you should not miss. Bond's back, and he's better than ever!

Awesome!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Daniel Craig bursts into action as the newest addition to the Bond anthology! This movie sets the stage for all the Bond movies that were ever made. It finally ties up the loose ends of the woman he loved and how he became the famous 007. + The plot takes multiple twists and turns and somehow managed to maintain my interest even in the second hour! Great acting, great plot, great action, great new Bond girl (Eva Green), great flick! + This episode plays to a slightly different tune than that of previous Bond movies, but they have definitely hit the right note with this one. There are really too many different things that happen to even bother explaining the basis of the movie, but to sum it up in a few short words, Bond is back, and better than ever! + See this movie!!!
