One of the top ten films by studio ghibli, while worth the price.

Great movie that rivals the classic Disney's we remember

I was disappointed to find out this was not the original version I had seen before. This one has different orchestrations, has parts of dialogue cut out, and leaves me wishing I had known. Please make sure you review online before you purchase THIS version. It's good, not great.

Everyone with me loved it, but I wasn't as crazy about it.

One of my favorite family oriented animation for all ages

For a movie animated in 1986 it's absolutely breath taking.

Birthday present for my brother, it's his favorite.

Aside for the last 30minutes of this movie, it's not my personal favorite. However I can't deny the influence its had on pop culture. Fans of Steven Universe or AtLA should watch it if they haven't.

Very good movie. Enjoyed it from beginning to end.

I would have to say that although this film is not as great as some of his other works. I like the steampunk nature of this film. I always thought it would be great to be like that. A flying pirate.

I’ve been on a Studio Ghibli binge for the last couple of weeks, and have found this title to be the weaker of the lot.

This should have been a 4K release the fact it’s no it gets 2 stars

You sent it to me bent, smashed and broken (literally in two pieces) and I had to drive out of town to replace it. It’s good to know that you do not perform any sort of quality control with your online orders. I’ll definitely keep that in mind.

Boring movie not worth the time to watch will not buy another made like this

Castle in the Sky, like all of Miyakazi's Studio Ghibli offerings is a phenomenal film full of wonder and adventure, sure to leave an impression on your heart. That having been said I will focus on the reason I am giving this release four stars instead of five. The good news is that this 2017 GKIDs release of the film returns the lush, gorgeous, re-recorded Joe Hisaishi score from the 2003 Disney DVD release (missing in the Disney 2012 blu-ray release). The bad news is that much of the additional dialogue present in the 2003 Disney DVD release remains missing (as it was in the Disney 2012 blu-ray release). Hopefully this information will enable those used to the 2003 DVD release to make an informed decision. Rest assured, however, that Castle in the Sky remains a must see and this is no doubt the best way to watch the film in high-definition.

Castle in the Sky is a great action movie for the whole family and shows that you can have action without violence. The story starts off with a young girl on the run from sky pirates. The girl, Sheeta, meets a boy named Pazu who lives in a quite mining village. What follows is a swashbuckling adventure movie that takes to the skies in a quest for a mythic city in the sky called Laputa. The animation is superb, as is always the case with Studio Ghibli films. All of the characters are well drawn and distinctive. The design of the mecha and the backgrounds is very heavily influenced by the works of Jules Verne, I loved the robots in Laputa itself. The music is great and fits the action nicely. The story is well told and very well thought out. Hayao Miyazaki shows once again that he is one of the world's premiere directors of animation. Castle in the Sky is at turns exciting and touching. A very well told coming of age story. The extras include background on the making of Castle in the Sky and an interactive portion. In one part of the 'World of Ghibli', you can find out which Castle in the Sky character you are most like. In the others, you can play a Where's waldo style game with Kiki, Totoro or Ponyo and uncover video segments and some cute animations. Do not watch the English dub! Not only are the voices ill-cast in the English version (Pazu sounds awful) the English voice actors can't even pronounce the names properly! Laputa is pronounced 'La-pu-ta', just like it's written out, not 'La-peew-ta' like the English voice actor for Pazu mangles it. And that's just one of many problems with the dub version. There are a few problems with the subtitle timing in a few isolated scenes (which does not happen in Kiki, Totoro or Ponyo) but I still recommend the Japanese version. For High-flying fun the whole family can enjoy, check out Castle in the Sky!

My favorite Studio Ghibli movie. The re-release was $10 cheaper than the previous release, and had a bonus features disc. The quality of the movie is great. My only issue is that I noticed 2 short clips that were deleted from this new edition. The extra features were interesting. However, there is no "play all" option, and each extra feature is 10 minute interview clips. Overall, a fantastic movie, great price, and interesting extra features. I'd recommend.

Miyazaki-san has always been a favorite of mine. Castle in the sky is a very enjoyable movie for all ages. My grandmother loved the sky pirate captain, Dola. While my little brother loved all the pirates crew. I have a particular love for all the townsfolk. If your wanting to watch an exciting and slightly love struck tale, this is a must see!

I absolutely love this movie and when it came out in bluray, had to buy it and was not disappointed at all in the beautiful artwork looking even more spectacular! Great story perfect for a family time movie.
