My review with the new steelbook was pretty unique in my point of view. Limited edition gives it an awesome look view of a covered picture.

For an older movie about a killer doll, the film holds up surprisingly well. It's no masterpiece of cinema, but for what it is, it makes for an entertaining experience.

Director Tom Holland’s first CHILD’S PLAY is a well done horror thriller and it never looked better is the 2K scan.

CHILD'S PLAY is simply one of the most effective horror films released in the 80's. , It benefits from a solid screenplay, a great cast, a great director and special effects that are a wow! Before CHILD'S PLAY, director Tom Holland gave us another 80's classic FRIGHT NIGHT and I must say this was a director in the top of his game. Little Vincent (Andy Barclay) lives with his single mom (Catherine Hicks) who works hard to make ends meet. He is sad because he wants for his birthday a Good Guy doll (a doll after a popular TV show). The dolls are great: they talk, each one has its own name... and they are very expensive. But mom (knowing her son is sad) finds a street seller who happens to have a Good Guy doll for sale - a doll he stole from a toy store where something horrible happened... ...And this is just the beginning because inside the doll is the spirit of a murderer (Brad Dourif) who managed to transfer his soul to the doll before getting shot by Detective Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon). So the doll will kill his way to Norris in search of revenge. Child's Play gets a quality Blu-Ray release. I've always been a fan of the Chucky series and I was not disappointed by Child's Play on Blu-Ray. The picture quality is good . This is an older film so it's not as stunning as a more recent release but the picture quality is a big upgrade when compared to previous releases of the film. The audio quality is also solid with a lossless audio track included. The Blu-Ray also includes the standard DVD version of the film. This is the definitive edition of Child's Play. If you're a horror fan you're gonna want to have this in your collection. here are the full Specs: Audio: English: Dolby Surround, 5.1 Dolby Surround, 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio / Spanish: Dolby Surround / French: Stereo, Dolby Surround Language: Dubbed: English, French & Spanish / Subtitled: English & Spanish Theatrical Aspect Ratio: Widescreen: 1.85:1 Episodes-Bonus Features:Disc 1: Widescreen Feature Film Blu-ray **Audio Commentary with Alex Vincent, Catherine Hicks and "Chucky" designer Kevin Yagher **Audio Commentary with Producer David Kirschner and Screenwriter Don Mancini **Select Scene Chucky Commentaries **Chucky's Thoughts **The Advantages of Being Chucky **Chucky on Filmmaking **Up close and personal with Chucky **Evil Comes in Small Packages **The Birth of Chucky **Creating the Horror **Unleashed **Chucky: Building a Nightmare **A Monster Convention **Vintage Featurette **Introducing Chucky: The Making of Child's Play Chucky's Back Designer Toy Disc 2: Widescreen Feature Film DVD so for the price of $1 you get two Feature films, don't miss out on this amazing offer

An entertaining horror film that still works today

Child's Play is a fun experience, especially when you watch it and realize that surprisingly enough, instead of just being a slasher film about a killer doll stalking the young boy who owns him, the film is actually a surprisingly subtle critique of the 80's obsession with the ownership of kids' dolls. In all fairness, this is hardly a socially subversive masterpiece, but it is a lot of fun, and manages to be less shallow than a lot of similar slasher films. Child's Play is the story of Karen Barclay, a single mom in financial trouble who desperately wants to get her son one of the popular new Good Guy dolls for his birthday, but she can't afford one, unfortunately. When she gets the chance to buy one from a homeless man at a cut-rate price, she can't resist, and that's how little Andy Barclay gets his new doll Chucky. Little does Karen know, unfortuantely, that the doll was taken from the scene of a destroyed toy store where cop Mike Norris chased down Charles Lee Ray, the Lakeshore Strangler. As he lay in the store dying of a gunshot wound, Charles used voodoo magic to transfer his soul into the doll, which is now in the hands of young Andy. The body count begins to accumulate, and soon Karen doesn't know if her son is the killer, or if it is actually possible that her son's doll is alive. The technical aspects of the movie are reallly impressive. At no point does Chucky appear to be cheesy or stupid-looking. Whenever it was illogical for them to film the doll from far away, they did a close-up shot that hid the tracks or whatever they were using to move him, making it look more believable. The result is a series of effects that are still quite adequate by today's standards. The level of gore isn't too high, but good enough to satisfy horror afficionados. Overall, this is a tense, fun horror picture with good casting and some fun timeless appeal. If you're into the genre, I'd recommend this film.

    20th Birthday!

Child's Play is a classic horror film with a little bit of dark comedy as well. This year is it's 20th Anniversary and even after that amount of time, it still does not get old. Everyone knows of Chucky, the killer doll and his many sequels and possibly a remake in the near future. However, As of right now, it's his birthday and not many killer dolls can say that, so sit back and enjoy this new release loaded with tons of new bonus features.

Very creepy movie - not a lot of gore, but plenty of scares and tension throughout. Blu-ray quality is about what I expected - not up to today's standards in picture quality, but true to the source material. Recommended!
