The Chromecast has always been my favorite but now that it has a remote control it's become the leader when it comes to functions. It has a browser for one. And the price is another reason to consider the Chromecast.

I've used many streamers and prefer this one. I like the UI, the content and it's recommendations that come up on the main screen. It's easy use and the price is great.

This is an upgrade after owning a previous version for years. The pairing with a 4K TV offers a beautiful picture. The installation of common media apps offers great convenience in addition to the remote.

Love that this has a remote. it turns any basic tv into a smart TV. Google interface is great, and remote works well. This also is awesome if you have YYTV, makes it work like standard cable.

Works great for casting and slideshows

I had a first gen Chromecast and I was finding that newer devices were having an issue casting to it. I was deciding between this and a Chromecast Ultra, but it wasn’t clear whether the Ultra was going to get the Google TV upgrade so I went with this instead. I’m still having an issue with one device casting to it, but all the other ones cast fine so I’ll blame it on that particular device. The UI seems fine, but we are an iOS house and we have a Prime subscription, so the Apple TV and Fire Stick get a lot more use around here. Other than casting, we use it for slideshows and it works better than the other two when doing random Google Photos albums, I’m guessing for obvious reasons. All in all, I am satisfied with this purchase.

I think it's better than firetv 4k if you don't plan to use Alexa but fireTV works great with Alexa. I have both and Chromecast has a better user interface. I took a star off only because I just realized that streaming sucks in general. I should not have bought fireTV or Chromecast but a Roku ultra or above. People don't know that the cheaper the streamer the lower the bitrate and less quality video. Nvidia TV has the best quality video but it cost $200. Of course cable and fiber is probably better.

Hi there, Alex1joy. Thanks for your insightful review of the Chromecast with Google TV (4K). Your comparison with Fire TV 4K is valuable, and it's great to hear your thoughts on the user interface and Alexa integration. You mention noticing lower bit-rate and video quality on both devices compared to potentially higher-end streamers like Roku Ultra or NVIDIA Shield. This is an interesting observation that can vary depending on the specific streaming service, content and app. We hope that you continue to enjoy using your Chromecast. I replaced an old chromecast with this, mainly for the 4k support. Surprisingly, the google tv support is outstanding, integrating all my streaming services with apps that blow away my samsung tv's apps. Tired of searching for something to watch separately on each service? This is the solution. I just searched for "Soul", and it took my straight to it via Disney+. The big con is that the remote only handles the chromecast, a tv, and an amp. If that's all you have, great. But if you have a cable box or anything else, it won't support it. Fortunately you can get a SofaBaton U1, which is truly universal for IR and bluetooth devices, including the chromecast, and it's inexpensive. Put together, they are amazing.

Throw away any other streaming device you have. The interface is great, easy to use and fast. Add in the fact that it streams in 4k and is updated frequently and you can't afford to pass on this. Definitely recommended.

Really Surprised With How Good GoogleTV Is....

I have tested basically every higher end streaming device including Nvidia Shield TV, Apple TV (2 most recent versions), Amazon FireTV Cube as well as Roku Premiere and even TiVo Stream 4K. I have found each to have positives as well as negatives (Apple TV Remote and $ for example). I recently purchased the GoogleTV with remote and I have to say given the price point and the fact that it is a first generation product that will likely only improve, I am very impressed with the user interface, remote layout, and app selection. Is it perfect? No, there are times that the screen takes a few extra seconds to load and the recommendations seem a little off but for the price point, in my experience it has the most positives going for it as a streaming device.

Great product. I lost the remote to an old sony TV, This remote was able to connect to it for the power functionality. As well as the added android tv experience. Great interface, easy to use and very convenient.

Excellent streaming dongle. Fast, reliable and sturdy. The Chromecast with Google TV is a game changer in the streaming dongle race and in my opinion the one to beat. Set up is a is a breeze with the Google home app. The UI is fantastic and very intuitive, especially for a YouTube TV subscriber. It also brings all your content in one place in "for you" section. With seamless integration and the ability to add to a Google speaker group the Chromecast with Google TV is a definite must for any Google household. The new remote is a very nice addition. Small but very easy to use. If you've ever use a remote like a Roku remote then you will feel right at home with the Chromecast remote the second you pick it up You can definitely buy this with confidence.

I am using the chromecast with google TV on a google tv. Surprisingly, works quite well. There is some clutter on the home screen- many different apps, suggested programs etc. But overall it works well and gives me the flexibility that has been missing in roku and apple tv etc. So far, I love it. and the portability is amazing. instead of taking a large device around with me i can put this in my pocket. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a ui that is not locked into a media device with ties to a particular brand.

Great device with one major flaw...

This is a great add to any tv especially if it has HDMI but not a smart TV. I first added one to my basement tv for our treadmill and overall it has been really good to have. Perfect for streaming from Android phone to tv. Google TV is ok but would be nice to see a better layout especially for YouTube. That app gets confusing with the YouTube music app if you are not streaming from your phone. I actually have this plugged into the one HDMI port on an older 24" tv and I am able to Bluetooth pair the audio to my connected Samsung HW-T550 soundbar as there is no other input/output to get sound from the TV to another device. In a nutshell, the Chromecast sends the video to the tv and the audio to the soundbar and that is really helpful. The one flaw, and to me it is a major one is that you still need to have a wall connection plug for the device. not sure why they cant make it so the USB port on a tv can power it but for an item so small it just adds another ugly wire out the back of the tv.
