Didn't work

Errors and wifi issues

Day two of owning it an error screen popped up and was on the phone with Google support for an hour. It loses internet connection daily but everything else on my wifi isn't having issues. Love the idea and it reminds me of my apple TV with the menu but after struggling with it for a month I'm back to using the ultimate.

Audio Codec Support

This is one of the few things holding this item back. Until an update/fix is released I won't be using the product.

Pretty solid low cost android streaming box

It works pretty good with everything I tried. It does dolby vision, it works on my Vizio P series. Youtube works pretty well. Nice remote, but wish it had more buttons, like a dedicated play, stop keys, and wish the volume buttons were on the face and not off on the right side. But otherwise great device, good build quality.

Missing functions

Works but does not have xfinity stream app

Had to return because App Store does not give you access to Xfinity Stream app and you can only use the app from your phone or tablet streamed to the chrome cast

If you’re willing to try, you may still watch your favorite shows on the Xfinity Stream by installing the app on any Android mobile phone or tablet that you may have, and cast your Android screen to mirror your Android device to the TV. Broken after 3 months- Google sending only refurb

However, it completely DIED after just 3 months. Nothing happened that would explain it, no changes were made, and it was plugged into a surge protector. Just found one morning it would not longer power on, couldn't reset, couldn't do anything at all. Google is shipping a replacement out but it is a REFURBISHED device. Not acceptable at all. But now much choice in the matter. Will also require sending broken device back within specific amount of days or will be charged.

One massive flaw

The device can not adjust to match the source framerate and only outputs at 60 hz. The result, even if playing on a 120 hz screen, is that 24,25, and 50 hz content all stutters horribly. It makes most content unwatchable for me as the motion slides by, jerks backwards, then kicks back forward several times every second with one large stutter at the end of every second. Google won't reply to the issue and there is currently no fix for it. This ruins an otherwise very good product.

Thanks for your feedback. We´re sorry to hear of the video stuttering issue you are having with Chromecast with Google TV. To get the best experience with Chromecast with Google TV, you would typically need at least a 20 Mbps broadband connection and it's most likely that the video stuttering issue could be related to a congestion in your Wi-Fi network. To check if your bandwidth is enough, try removing some of your connected devices and check if you can watch videos without experiencing the stuttering issues you reported to us. If the stuttering stops, then you may need to contact your Internet service provider to check your connection and upgrade it if needed.

Not without flaws

Not for hotel use.

While most home Wi-Fi networks are compatible with Google Nest products including Chromecasts, there’s a short list of network types that we don’t recommend using with Nest products. Avoid connecting to the following networks if you can. These networks may cause issues, or might not even work with your Google and Nest products at all:
- Mobile hotspots
- Guest network, open networks, or isolated networks
- DSL internet service with less than 2Mbps bandwidth
- Captive portal networks
- Enterprise 802.1x/RADIUS networks

Memory Issues

Then I started to have problems with a spinning symbol in a major streaming video app and not loading. Maybe an update or something caused it. Rebooting seemed to help, but then it happens again. Also seems short on memory for downloading apps.

A range issue or wireless interference can cause your Chromecast to have performance issues. Sometimes it may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away. You may also check for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the Chromecast and your router as these items could block the connection. We also suggest clearing the app cache that might help as having a sizable amount of cache stored, would affect its performance. Here’s how:
- From the Google TV home screen, in the top right, go to the user profile icon and select Settings.
- Select Apps and choose the app you're having trouble with.
- If you can't find it, select See all apps.
- Select Clear cache and then Ok.
- If clearing the app cache didn't work, you can try to reset your Chromecast with Google TV by following the steps here: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6254654

Needed a reset

After I wasted two batteries, a search on the internet instructed how to reset it. It now works fine...so far.
