Finally Atmos pass-through!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned all the prior Google Chromecast, but none of them had support for True Atmos pass-through. As soon as I heard that this new version would have it I picked it up and have been enjoying it ever since. The only negative thing is that there are some quirks in it were I would have to unplug it and replug it for it to pull up the main screen on my Samsung TV, I'm sure that will be resolved in a future software update.

Decent software hampered by poor hardware.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ive owned a classic Chromecast for years now. I purchased the new Chromecast 4K as soon as it came out. The user interface is decent when it works. The video quality is great and an obvious improvement over the classic Chromecast HD. Unfortunately, the WiFi repeatedly disconnects even as my old Chromecast in the same room stays connected. Sometimes an app will stall requiring a reboot of the Chromecast. The remote stopped working entirely after a week, and would not respond to repairing attempts. After two months, the Chromecast no longer boots and I have the orange light of death. Making a warranty claim with Google is a painful process. I spend my days troubleshooting tech, and I generally want my home to Just Work. I've switched to a small Linux PC with 4K output (Intel NUC) and I'm very happy with the quality and stability. tl;dr: It looks great but it was not worth the time I spent troubleshooting it.

Chromecast is Awesome but the remote is TERRIBLE!
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the menu layout and functions of the Chromecast. Seeing all my options from ally of my streaming subscriptions on the main menu is awesome! But the Bluetooth remote is TERRIBLE!!! It consistently unpairs (if that is a word) from the Chromecast and TV and I have to use the Android TV app on my phone to re-pair the remote. I would not recommend until Google has fix the issue with the remote.

Posted .Hi CB716, thanks for reaching out. We’re glad you loved the menu layout and functions for Chromecast with Google TV. However, we do apologize for the poor experience with the Bluetooth pairing issue.
If you’re willing to try, here are some suggested steps that may be helpful with the Bluetooth pairing issue:
1. Check for Chromecast remote updates under Google TV settings, Remotes and Accessories.
2. Perform a factory reset on the remote. In the upper right of your TV screen, select your profile and then Settings. Select System > and then About > and select Factory Reset.
3. Pair Voice Remote with Chromecast and perform the following steps below after pairing:
- Check that the batteries in the remote have remaining charges.
- Remove the batteries from the remote.
- Press and hold the Home button Voice remote home button.
- While holding the button, reinsert the batteries.
- Hold the button while the LED light is solid.
- When the light starts pulsing, release the button.
If your Voice Remote still disconnects from Chromecast with Google TV, we recommend contacting our support team for further isolation and troubleshooting here: https://support.google.com/chromecast/gethelp

Posted .Hi there, TeganB. Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue on Chromecast with Google TV (4K).
Some app issues can be related to the subscription issues as well. You may want to try logging in to another Chromecast device, mobile phone or tablet device to see if you will experience the same issue. However, if the app issue you're experiencing doesn't seem to be related to your YouTube Kids subscription, then we recommend resetting Chromecast with Google TV (4K) to try and fix the issue. Keep in mind that resetting it will erase all data and that you may need to set it up right after the reset process. To reset, follow the steps below:
With the Chromecast Voice Remote:
- On the top right of your TV screen, select your profile and then Settings.
- Select System and then About and then Factory Reset.
From the Chromecast device:
- While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV and powered, press and hold the button on the back of the Chromecast. The LED should start to blink yellow.
- When the LED light turns solid white, release the button, and the Chromecast should then reset

A Long Way To Go
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Compared to the Apple TV 4K, Chromecast has a long way to go. I purchased this originally because I was looking for a product that easily connected with the rest of my Google setup. I ended up returning it because I did not enjoy the set up, user interface or overall quality. I will consider trying Chromecast again if Google works on improving these issues.

Showtime App issue
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this product because it was verified by HBO MAX. HBO Max worked fine. However, when I used the free promotion for Showtime offered by Best Buy, the experience was horrible. When trying to view the Showtime show "Your Honor", the Showtime 30 sec pre show advertisement played an then I got a playback error several times and finally was able to see Episodes 1 and 2. But other shows also had the same issue. Neither Chromecast support nor Showtime support could diagnose or solve this issue. So I had to cancel Showtime via the Best Buy promotion and had to pay full price vis my cable provider. Other issues: Fast forward or fast reverse requires pushing the top of the circular control, then highlighting the play and/or forward or back symbols. There is no smartphone app that allows typing in user id and passwords or search. These were expected functions bases on my use of ROKU sticks

Device is always having to buffer.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The device buffers often. I bought the ethernet adapter so it is hard wired into router but it did not help. I don't believe its a network issue. Seems to be hardware or software issue. I have Roku Ultra and Apple TV 4K and they hardly ever need to buffer when wireless and never buffer when hardwired to router with ethernet.

Big Improvement
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A huge improvement over the previous Chromecast Ultra. No more random crashes or the TV losing connection to the device. The loss of the physical ethernet port so far has not been a problem with streaming 4k YoutubeTV.

Chromecast with Google TV - Not for me!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Chromecast with Google TV on the basis of a Wirecutter review. The Best Buy return policy expired yesterday, but if it hadn't, I'd be sending it back. First, the Wirecutter review highlights the Chromecast's home screen feature that gathers the shows you are watching. What it actually does is post the shows you've watched most recently, and in my experience, it doesn't work with all platforms. It seems to favor Netflix, Apple TV, HBO. I suspect these platforms are paying for the privilege. Second, in print the Chromecast supports ATMOS, but I couldn't make it work. Yesterday, I spent 90 minutes in a chat and phone call with a support specialist at Google and they couldn't fix the issue. In any case, the dimensionality of the Chromecast surround isn't nearly as good as the ATMOS on my Roku. Third, every few days, the volume control on the remote would stop working. It could be remedied by unplugging the Chromecast for a minute and rebooting it. Maybe I just got a lemon, but buyer beware.

Posted .Hi thoffy1,
Thanks for sharing some insights. We're sorry to hear of the performance issue with your Chromecast with Google TV.
Your Chromecast with Google TV was designed to provide you with a smooth experience. We recommend on trying out the troubleshooting steps below to see if the issue could be related to factors other than your Chromecast device:
- Ensure that your Chromecast is connected to your 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Remove other connected devices on your Wi-Fi network and see if you will still encounter the same issue. Should you verify congestion, then we recommend contacting your internet service provider for resolution.
- We recommend a Wi-Fi network with 25 Mbps download speed that can ensure smooth 4K experience.
- If it does not work, you may try restarting your Chromecast by going to Settings > System > Restart.
- If it's still unresolved, perform a factory reset on the Chromecast with Google TV:
a. While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV, hold down the button on the Chromecast device for at least 25 seconds or until the solid LED light turns into a flashing red light.
b. Once the LED light turns blinking white and the TV goes blank, release the button. The Chromecast device will begin the reboot sequence.
