chromecast is disappointing

Not all that it is advertised and challenging to get through the menu. I still have not gotten it to chromecast a movie from my phone. Worked on it some time and decided to workaround. I wish I had taken the product back.

Casting issues can be related to some settings on your Wi-Fi network or your casting devices. We suggest performing these steps and see if this will improve your experience:
- Ensure that your mobile phone and Chromecast are connected on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Turn off Power Saving Mode. As it can limit the processing power of casting devices which might affect the performance of the device.
- Decrease the distance between the TV, router, and your Chromecast with Google TV.
- Make sure that the Chromecast-enabled apps are all up to date.
- Connect Chromecast with Google TV to another HDMI port on your TV or another TV.
- Turn off other connected devices to your Wi-Fi network while casting to avoid congestion.

Great at first

Lately it has been crashing daily, I also can get any of my Plex content on the home screen like I can with Android TV

There could be several reasons that can affect the performance and connectivity of your Chromecast and we’d like to rule out the possibility of your Wi-Fi connection being the cause of this issue. We suggest trying the simple steps below:
- Check for possible interference. Appliances like your microwave oven, refrigerator or even your neighbors Wi-Fi network may cause interference with your Chromecast.
- Check for possible congestion. Removing some of your connected devices may help relieve some bandwidth space and you may check if your experience will improve.
- Ensure that your Chromecast is in a line of sight with your Wi-Fi router to get the best signal strength and Wi-Fi coverage.
- Restart your router, mobile phone and Chromecast.
We also suggest clearing the app cache that might help as having a sizable amount of cache stored would affect the performance of your Chromecast. Please see the steps below:
- From the Google TV home screen, in the top right, go to the user profile icon and select Settings.
- Select Apps and choose the app you're having trouble with.
- If you can't find it, select See all apps.
- Select Clear cache and then Ok.

Not recommended

Called Google tech support as well with not much help. Finally succumbed and bought the Apple TV 4K player and have had zero issues since then. I guess you get what you pay for....

No support for basic apps

Wouldn't connect; very disappointing

My phone read it, but nothing happened. So, entered the info using the TV remote and would not connect. Reset the router, then the Chromecast device; still wouldn't connect. Tried again and connected on the 3rd try and downloaded the portals I use. So far so good. Then, would not connect to WiFi in spite of numerous tries, and even though the TV, all our portable devices, etc. are connected and work fine. Followed all of the suggested steps and still not working. The "help" button on the remote is useless. There is no technical support at all (only FAQs). So, I returned it and got the basic (black) Chromecast which installed easily, is cheaper, and works fine. Based on the favorable reviews, I assume this was a defective device, but I wasn't willing to take a chance on a replacement.

- Go to Settings.
- Select Remotes and Accessories.
- Select Pair remote or accessory.

Streaming quality issues can be caused by several reasons. To watch movies and TV shows in 4K Ultra High-Definition (HD) and 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR) content using your Chromecast with Google TV, you may need to check the following:
- A high-speed internet connection of at least 20 Mbps (recommended)
- Check if your TV has an HDMI port that supports both HDCP 2.2 and 60 frames per second (60 FPS).
- We recommend that you connect your Chromecast with Google TV directly to the wall outlet and use the power supply that was provided with your Chromecast with Google TV.
- Update your TV’s firmware, if possible. Check with your TV manufacturer for the latest firmware and how to update it.
If this doesn't fix the issue, we suggest performing a factory data reset on Chromecast with Google TV and set it up again. For more information on how to reset Chromecast with Google TV, check out this link: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6254654

The best TV dongle!

I tried connecting it to a roku tv that had no problems connecting to the internet, was just slow, and this thing would constantly lose internet connection. Sad that it doesn't have as good wifi as a cheap built in roku tv. Disappointed.

If your device is randomly disconnecting from your Wi-Fi network, we recommend performing a factory reset:
With the Chromecast Voice Remote:
- In the upper right of your TV screen, select your profile and then Settings .
- Select System and then About and then Factory Reset.
From the Chromecast device:
- While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV and powered, press and hold the button on the back of the Chromecast. The LED will start blinking yellow.
- When the LED light turns solid white, release the button and the Chromecast will then reset.

Not easy to connect to my oculus

There are some additional features that are nice but that’s not the reason I bought it.

Oculus is not officially compatible with Chromecast devices. It may or may not work. However, while using an Oculus device on a compatible Android phone, you may be able to mirror the phone's display to show at the same time on your Chromecast. Best streaming device

I was so impressed with this that I sold my 4K Apple TV because it is better imo. Totally the best streaming device out there.

Doesnt want to work

Very disappointing.

We suggest replacing the batteries with new ones (1.5 volt AAA batteries) and try again. Make sure to replace both batteries, don’t change only one of them.
