A range issue or wireless interference can affect the performance of your Chromecast. Sometimes it may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away. You may also check for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the Chromecast and your router as these items could block the connection. We also suggest clearing the app cache that might help as having a sizable amount of cache stored, would affect its performance. Here’s how:
- From the Google TV home screen, in the top right, go to the user profile icon and select Settings.
- Select Apps and choose the app you're having trouble with.
- If you can't find it, select See all apps.
- Select Clear cache and then Ok.

If the ads are coming from an app that you don't have a subscription to, you can uninstall them by following the steps below:
-From the Google TV home screen, scroll to Apps.
-Scroll down to the "Your apps" section and find the app you want to uninstall. If you can't find the app, scroll all the way to the right and select See all.
-Hold the Select button on your remote until a menu appears.
-Select View Details: Uninstall.

These kinds of issues are mostly caused by either an insufficient bandwidth or congested network. You may want to try out some helpful steps below:
- Check if you have sufficient bandwidth. Chromecast device's performance relies heavily on a high speed Internet of at least 20 Mbps for the best performance. You may try disconnecting some of your connected devices and try to see if you will get better performance when using your Chromecast device. Getting better performance will confirm that you may need to upgrade your Internet bandwidth.
- Check for possible sources of signal interference. The thick walls of your home, including the electronic and electrical devices you have may be causing the issue. Placing your Chromecast device away from these devices and in a straight line of sight with your router may help improve signal strength.
- Lastly, resetting your Chromecast device is also a good step in fixing minor bugs. Keep in mind that resetting it will erase all data and that you may need to set it up again. Not happy

Doesn't work often

The new the budget king?!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been hearing a lot of positive reviews and was told that this media player could do something that I just had to see for myself so I made the purchase. While the accessories that came with the chromecast were pretty underwhelming, a compatible usb-c hub allowed me to gain access to additional usb 3.0 ports and a ethernet cable with a gigabit connection. Bear in mind this did require a power adapter with higher wattage as the one that came with the chromecast was not enough. I was able to use a dual shock 4 game pad with the usb 3.0 port and an initial test with the ethernet adapter allowed up to 300mbits down and 200 up. In terms of streaming, the chromecast has pretty much got you covered with all the major streaming apps(netflix,hulu,amazon,etc) so you'll have no issue their. What I really wanted to test was my personal media. Using Kodi, a popular media player app, I found that the DVD iso format with mpeg 2 codec played well and loading times while a bit of wait weren't terrible. From their I tried out Blu ray mkv formats. Unfortunately, the vc-1 codec struggles on the chromecast but most of my Blu-ray used the h264 codec which played fine. My final test was the 4K Ultra Bluray mkv format with the H265(HEVC) codec and things did not go so well. Only one movie worked out of the several I tried which was 1917 and I can't for the life of me figure out exactly why this one worked and the rest didn't. On top of that, I overlooked the audio support which only utilizes the dolby digital format and not DTS. I did test this through ARC on my receiver and the basic 5.1 did pick up. So the long and the short is personal media playback is a mixed bag. I did some small game testing and found that games run moderately well but upscaling is pretty much a no go especially when it comes to emulation. Lastly, I found searching for apps to be very difficult. Google TV does not provide a game section and the search function was forcing me into using the assistant. Overall, I do believe we have a new budget king on our hands. Outside of the unsupported DTS audio, and some other features like automatic frame rate switching, the Chromecast delivers more freedom and better performance than the Firestick 4K. Of course you may need to purchase additional accessories to really get the most out of the Chromecast but it also means your getting far more accessibility as a result. Chromecast is definitely me new budget friendly recommendation and if they can somehow manage to get H265 working for the rest of my UHD's and some other much needed fixes, I don't see how anything else can compete at this price range.

With the Chromecast Voice Remote:
- In the upper right of your TV screen, select your profile and then Settings .
- Select System and then About and then Factory Reset.
From the Chromecast device.
- While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV and powered, press and hold the button on the back of the Chromecast. The LED will start blinking yellow.
- When the LED light turns solid white, release the button and the Chromecast will then reset.

We recommend trying out the steps below that might help fix your concern:
- Check for possible interference. Appliances like your microwave oven, refrigerator or even your neighbors Wi-Fi network may cause interference with your Chromecast.
- Check for possible congestion. Removing some of your connected devices may help relieve some bandwidth space and you may check if your experience will improve. Once congestion is verified, contacting your provider for a possible upgrade of your connection will be your best option.
- Ensure that your Chromecast is in a line of sight with your Wi-Fi router to get the best signal strength and Wi-Fi coverage.
- Restart your router, mobile phone and Chromecast.

Chromecast with Google TV has access to more than 6,500 apps that you can download directly from your device. Visit tv.google to view which apps are available and learn how to install the apps here: https://support.google.com/googletv/answer/10050570
In Apps only mode, you won’t get personalized recommendations. A list of installed apps that you can open to find something to watch is listed. Sponsored content and teasers for popular movies and shows are also shown. You won’t find Google’s personalized recommendations on their home screen, but apps can still show them their personalized recommendations and track their watch history. These options include YouTube, YouTube TV, and other Google apps.
We suggest checking the settings to make sure that “Apps only” mode on your Chromecast device is off:
- Go to Settings.
- Select Accounts and Sign In.
- Select the Google TV Account.
- Select Your services.
- Select the service / media provider to toggle it on and allow Chromecast with Google TV to recommend shows and movies from that service.
- Toggle Apps only mode off as this won’t get you personalized recommendations but rather some sponsored content and teasers for popular movies and shows.
