    Where is Stadia?

Overall, hands down best streaming device I've used. The OS still needs work but that's up to developers of the streaming apps to add better functionality. Only thing google needs to do at the moment is allow stadia support! Why wasn't that baked in in the first place. Please add this soon.

GARGAGE..... FORCED CONTENT ON HOME SCREEN

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this in December 2021 along with a Google Speaker to replace Roku device. Reason for replacement was due to possibility of removal of YouTube from Roku at that time due to their contracts. Anyways since the time of purchase and use over the past year has been nothing but a hassle. The device performs as advertised and reliable streaming. However my biggest complaint is simply the dominance Google places on the consumer. They force recommended content constantly and it is always on Home Screen and a hassle to navigate past to content your specifically want. I do not cate to see content specifically targeted for LBQT movies and shows, History Months (Women, Black, Hispanic) etc., content relating to Britain and the Queen, and the list goes on. You do not have any option to limit or remove this content that is always displayed on a large content frame on the Home Screen. Along with that is is a pain in area that sees little sun on your body to remove contents from continue watching. No matter what you do to remove it always returns. If you manage your data on Google and delete your data there, guess what...... Your continue watching list on Chromecast Home Screen rejuvenates itself and you have a huge list of shows on continue watching. With the autoplay feature on some streaming services this always onto Home Screen on Chromecast. Another issue is the Home Screen, first the screensaver option never works. You can supposedly customize it with your own images however this never works. Google constantly overrides your content with what they want you to see on a screensaver. Next..... added content happens again. Now I got tabs for Kids and Espanol content. I have no children nor am I interested in Espanola content. There is no option to remove these tabs. Too much aggravation for such a simple task. Steam content related to the consumer. Google forcible pushes content that you possibly not interested in towards you and so forth. I've had it with this garbage and it is landfill bound along the smart speaker that is nothing more than feces. Forced content on music and recommendations there as well.

Hi there, KennethB. Thanks for choosing Chromecast with Google TV (4K). We're sorry to hear that you're not getting the personalized recommendations of the content that you're looking for. Rather than disabling the personalized recommendations, it's possible to hide it instead by turning on Apps only mode for your profile. Here's how you can hide it:
      Turn on Apps only mode:
      - From the Google TV home screen, select Settings Settings and then Accounts & Sign In.
      - Select your profile and then Apps only mode and then Turn on.
      - To browse in ""Apps only mode,"" on your remote, select Home Home.

In Apps only mode, you don't get personalized recommendations on your home screen. You’ll find a list of installed apps that you can open to find something to watch. You'll also find sponsored content and teasers for popular movies and shows.

It's also possible to change the screensaver. To change it, we recommend following the steps below:
      - From the Google TV home screen, select Settings Settings and then System and then Ambient mode.
      - Choose what you want to show:
Google Photos: Choose photos or albums saved in your Google Photos account.
Art gallery: Choose featured photos, fine art and more.
Experimental: Try out new sources and content.

If none of the steps we shared with you prove to be helpful, we'd be more than happy to assist you further with your support concerns here: https://support.google.com/chromecast/gethelp madebygoogle

DITCH YOUR ROKU FOR THIS AMAZING DEVICE

Best $50 ever spent. I no longer click buttons on the remote except voice assistant. This is the best streaming device in comparison to Roku and FireTV. I have been using Roku for a very long time. Started using this device. Now going back to Roku feels like typewriter age or newspaper age. Everyone reading this review - THROW YOUR ROKU IN TRASH AND GET THIS AWESOME DEVICE

    A More Demanding User

I have Roku's (Ultra, 4K) Firestick's 4K, Tivo DVRS and now this device. I was attracted to it by the concept of integration of search function over several streaming services. Before I go on it's important to understand that I run the majority of my devices through a Marantz AVR which is fairly new. This makes comparisons relatively equal to assess. I also subscribe to YouTube TV currently. In terms of quality the unit functions well with occasional hiccups of sound dropping out during channel switches (which could be attributed to how it interfaces with the Marantz) and somewhat slower connection to YouTube TV which is ironic but I sense that is because it is juggling to keep it Continue Watching section updated. The unit itself is awkward for use with an AVR as the HDMI connection is too short for such a large device and requires one to purchase an HDMI extension cable. The Remote is small, slippery and is missing the Options button that Firesticks have giving one several handy functions. The GUI layout is better than a Firestick or Roku, simple but covers more than the basics however how it functions lacks polish. The Voice search does live up to my expectations but the Continue Watching section is a mess. If you are someone who starts different programs and then moves on to something else, this will be a very frustrating experience. There is no way to Delete a program from this area. You must finish watching the program to have it removed from the section. There are a limited amount of entries allowed so you could have a bunch of unfinished programs clogging up the section. What's worse, is that because YouTube TV refuses to gives it's customers an OPT OUT for Autoplay, you could have various programs that start up that you don't want to watch logged into the lineup. Double that issue when it's a VOD with commercials that you can't even Fast Forward through to get rid of the show. Adding another failure to the Continue watching section is that Prime Video shows don't appear and other streaming services are a hit and miss to show up as well. I have found the Video quality to be on the soft side compared to Roku or Firestick and I can not get Dolby Surround on either Vudu or Peacock which work perfectly on Roku. Navigation in programs is the best of the streaming devices I have and having Time and Temperature on Screen Saver is nice. If you have YouTube TV the Library has a New From your DVR area which can save a little time. The Watchlist section might also be nice to keep track of things you run across but I don't find it particularly useful. Also the remote button that lets you program it to YouTube TV is a feature some will like. For many streaming users this device will fit their needs and is a good value but for someone like me it falls short. However, Goggle could address the issues I have mentioned and my review would change (Starting with an OPT out of Autoplay on YTTV). Actually I want every service to offer opt out of AutoPlay.

Overpriced, the worst Streaming Stick of the big 3

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Not only is this piece of junk the most expensive of the Streaming Sticks, it's also the worst. The smallest amount of storage, a handful of apps and it's constantly warning you it's out of storage. Repeatedly asking to update Android System Webview, almost every time you use the thing, and it fails updating. Have to repeatedly clear the cache. The remote is terrible, the rocker disk is too sensitive, the volume rocker is poorly placed so you accidentally hit it. Do yourself a favor, get a Roku or Firestick over this thing. Not only is it garbage, but it's twice the price. Why? Because Google is trying to be Apple.

I really like this device. Great inferface, plenty of available apps. But if you have a lot of streaming services, expect to run out of memory. You can Frankenstein something together to expand it, but just did this review so people are aware.
