Once the update was finished, it started installing apps. The percentage moved really slow, almost like 1% every 30 seconds. The apps installation part actually took longer than all other steps. I have first gen and third gen Chromecast and they didn't take this long to setup. I think it took almost 20 minutes from power up to the very end.

First, I have Google everything (phones, routers, home assistances, speakers etc.). I was excited when they announced this 3 years ago. I got one!! I was replacing my Samsung TV's poor excuse for streaming interface. It didn't wow me but I liked the user interface at first... it got worse. Voice search got worse and worse, finally returning in mostly Youtube results when I unpluged it. It never worked well with my sound bar, flat out refusing to communicate with it directly so I had the TV translate for the soundbar. Many of the apps would stream with audio lag due to this. I found some tricks (pausing and then playing helped). It was very fast, much faster than the "smart" TV but with time it slowed and had to be reset often. Its now been replace with a Roku Ultra that is 2 years its senior. I've never said this about any Google product but I do not recommend.

Works well. remote could be larger and more durable. Hard for me to use.

I spent close to a thousand dollars on movies through Google TV. I can stream them but am unable to download them for trips. I contacted Google support and they referred my problem to their "specialists". They didn't do anything. I asked for a refund since I wasn't able to use their product as intended and they won't do that either. I have 2 autistic kids that have meltdowns when the internet goes out. So if that happens I have limited options to calm them down.

Spotify sound is choppy, drops in and out, so listening experience is not as great as the original chromecast. The music cutting out is distracting, and I have to remain patient for it come back. I find volume control to be the most disruptive to using. It seems to default to very loud or very quite levels unlike the original Chromecasts. Not sure why. Unable to control the volume level via an app that is chromecasting on the phone (like Youtube apps, Spotify, Disney+, etc) is bothersome. You have to reach for (and find) the remote. Though muting via a casting apps does work. Perhaps this is just a bug. Overall I find the smart tv experience to be unnecessary. The remote is ok, but not great. Typing is rather slow and can be a tad frustrating. It's much simpler to open the app (Youtube, Spotify, Disney+, Netflix, etc) on my phone or laptop to find the content I'd like, then cast to the screen. The Google TV smart tv doesn't add much for me. Perhaps these minor but bothersome things shall be ironed out one day. But for now I've returned the Chromecast with Google TV and reconnected the old Chromecast 3rd Gen for a more delightful experience.

Got the Google Chromecast on day one, no regrets here.

I use lots of streaming apps. Many don't work with Google TV. Google says that's not a problem, since you can also use this like the older Chromecast for those apps. Well I say why bother figuring what works and doesn't work with Google TV, since all my apps work with my older Chromecast. So for me, no more Google TV.

Works well and easy to set up and use. I woulsnbuy it again if i had to.

I have not yet been able to get it working properly with my old "dumb" TV in spite of having the RCA conversion. I got it working once but the color disappeared after 10 minutes. I am going to try again but it is NOT as easy to use as the unit that came with my T Mobile internet hub

Roku set up is easier. Otherwise, this is a great product.

It's ok but each app must be paid for the service.

It is a big step backward. I don't recommend this to anyone. The interactions are very awkward. Assistant won't stream shows on command it brings you to a menu and forces you to use the remote... using the remote it is very laggy and underpowered. It doesn't have enough memory to even install all of our TV apps. You pay for the device unsubsidized and they force you to accept ads or make the device essentially worthless. Basically they hide the content and services you actually pay for, and continually promote apps and services you don't have. It got way worse after we bought our 2nd one. At this point I wish I could just get a refund on both. Google should be ashamed of this exploitive device on soo many levels.

The remote up and down , left and right is ok but the middle OK button is so small and so easy to give the wrong command, My hand is a medium and my finger is not that fat. I guess I have to return it and wait for a better improve version in future days!

Pretty disappointed that a lot of the apps I use don't even support 4K. Vudu and Movies anywhere don't support 4K, while they both do on Roku. Also, cannot get 5.1 on Vudu, everything is stereo only. Movies anywhere has 5.1 working, but no Atmos over Dolby digital plus. The only app that seems to work with both 4k HDR and Atmos is Netflix. I also use YouTube TV and noticed the feature that shows stats and scores for live sports is missing, again Roku has this.
