Great Roku alternative plus casting device

The way this Chromecast goes across all your subscription services to pull in recommendations and tee-up the next show to watch is an ability that other similar devices seriously lack. Makes it easier to make sure time in front of the TV isn't wasted watching a repeat, but instead I can finally watch "that show" that I bookmarked 4 months ago that I now have the 45-60 minutes to watch.

I love Google products, I was able to connect this and my Google Nest to the Home app so everything was connected. Now that I have a Google smart TV, the Google TV plugin is very comparable.

I would love a feature that any person would use it without the need to pair-sync their Google Acc or not use the Google main account set on installation (something like an incognito mode).

The FireTV had issues loading Disney+ and couldn’t get HBO Max. For the price I decided to give this a try. Out of the box, it was horrible. It had a horrible time connecting to my router. It couldn’t find the internet, no matter if I used the 5ghz or 2.4ghz network. I tried setup on the Chromecast itself and setup through the Google Home app with the same error each time. I finally hot spotted my phone so it could download the firmware update. After getting through menus, it found my network, but WiFi seems spotty. It will tell me there’s no internet, but when I Speedtest through an app on the Chromecast, it says I’m getting 400mbps download and 200mbps upload. I’m thinking I have a faulty unit or the unit is not WiFi 6 compatible. When I turn off the ax feature of my router, the unit responds better, although it still drops WiFi signal. My next problem, some apps run great, others not so much. I’ve never had a problem with Amazon Video or Hulu but Disney+ just spins and HBO Max will sometimes not load. HBO Max will go into an infinite loop like it’s loading, then not, then loading. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling apps and it still acts the same. I do like the small remote. I like it better than the Siri remote with the Apple TV. That’s about the only positive I can say about the unit at this point. I’m thinking I’m going to return it, and try and get another one. If I run into the same problems, I’m going to buy another Apple TV instead.

If you haven't returned your Chromecast yet, and want to troubleshoot the issue, you can try performing a power cycle on your Chromecast, and Wi-Fi router to refresh the connection:
- Unplug Chromecast and router from their power source.
- Leave them unplugged for one minute before plugging them back in.
If you're still experiencing the issue after doing the steps above, perform a factory reset on your Chromecast, then re-setup.
To reset:
- While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV and powered, press and hold the button on the back of the Chromecast. The LED will start blinking yellow.
- When the LED light turns solid white, release the button and the Chromecast will then reset.
