    Purchased to replace an original version of Chromecast. This latest version is almost a "must have" upgrade. An important feature for me was the audio decoding output. The new Chromecast seems to do a much better job of providing audio signals. The user interface is busy but not confusing once you get familiar with the lack of divisions between streaming apps.

  • No frame rate switching, no 10 bit HDR color

    Very disappointed in this unit. In the setup options you have to select a resolution and frame rate. For instance, I selected 4K 60 hz since my projector supports that resolution. There are two huge issues with locking in that resolution and frame rate: 1. all of the content, even if it was 24 frames per second content, is output as 4K 60 hz. 2. The color space output is essentially 8 bit... What that means is that if you have a 4K 60 hz display, and you want to watch HDR material that is 10-bit, you won't be able to do it. The device will output 8-bit color only... At least that's what it does for my projector. Ideally, the system ought to see what my projector can handle, and then when outputting 4K 60 HDR material, it should understand that it should use a different color space like 4:2:2 or 4:2:0... That way it leaves it up to my projected to decode the color. That's the only way I'm ever going to get 10 bit color.
