Laggy but pretty great for an old TV.

Once you've been using it a little bit the lag disappears and it's a very pleasant experience. I have had some issue with some video formats not playing, or playing very poorly, but the recent software updates have helped.

Good for the money

It solved the issues alot of TV operating systems have when it comes to lack of developer support since it pulls its app library from Android largely. This means that apps that aren't on your TV might be available on the chromecast with Google TV. In my short experience the answer isn't might, but generally are

The voice remote is a great feature. It will find you a lot of free context especially if you sign up for Tubi as well and I am sure there is so much more there that I don't have time to find. Ha

I usually cast my phone, but when putting music on on YouTube or a show for the kids, using the remote frees my phone up for me to listen to podcasts still.

A range issue or wireless interference can cause your Chromecast to have performance issues. Sometimes it may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away from your router. You may also check for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the Chromecast and your router as these items could block the connection. Additionally, having a sizable amount of cache stored would affect its performance. Clearing the app cache can help. Here’s how:
- From the Google TV home screen, in the top right, go to the user profile icon and select Settings.
- Select Apps and choose the app you're having trouble with.
- If you can't find it, select See all apps.
- Select Clear cache and then Ok.
- If clearing the app cache didn't work, you can try to reset your Chromecast with Google TV by following the steps here: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6254654

Easy Setup

It comes in several different colors. If you want to use your usb on your tv, make sure if has enough power to power the device. Otherwise you'll need to use the included power brick.

This version has come out and it is amazing. So many features that are intuitive especially if you have a Google ecosystem. Even if you have a smart TV this will make your TV even smarter. Do it.

It has all the streaming apps you want and provides access to browsers and file explorers to access content on your home network. It supports usb hubs as well for added peripherals like keyboards/mice, usb drives or a physical network jack.

Will get a second one for my bedroom TV for sure.

Owned for 3 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.It's a Roku killer, and I love everything about it, no need to purchase Roku proprietary speakers, use bluetooth, use any usb doc to attach USB storage drive and play videos with VLC player, install apks or access PlayStore, YouTube Kids, it's open like any Android device.

I give it 5 Stars for that. The downer is that I've added to my Google Home system and when I add the Chrome cast to my music streaming, sound cuts in and out on a regular basis. 1 star for that.

Something to consider if you don't have a smart TV

It's not necessarily a must as there are other ways to watch live news but if you have a TV that's not smart then it's something to consider.

It is easy to use with a lot of tv options. The only downside is that the Wi-Fi signal can sometimes be very weak, although it seems that they have corrected the problem.

I can tell Google Assistant to go to a particular app to open it, which is very helpful but it doesn't work inside of the app. Otherwise, this was a great investment, especially for what happened between our cable/satellite services. If you use Google a lot, Chromecast is best for you.

Easy to connect Bluetooth speaker and mouse.
