All I wanted was to stream music and see what song is playing on the TV and it does that well. I don't like all the pushing of tv shows and movies on the home screen. You can change a setting so you only see the apps you have installed (Pandora and iHeartReadio for me) but you can't remove the big "ad" at the top of the home screen.

I've been using Chromecasts since the first version and have loved them with one exception, they lacked a remote. The Chromecast with Google TV is almost a perfect streaming device. It seems to handle everything I throw at it. The interface is very fast and clean. The assistant button is the best feature IMO because it helps you to quickly start watching what you want without hunting around for it. I use Plex and I was hoping it would search my Plex library, but that doesn't seem to be the case which is a bummer but not a huge deal. This handles Dolby Vision/Atmos which is a big deal to me since my LG OLED tv supports both formats. It also supports HDR 10. Overall, this is a solid device and you won't be disappointed coming from any other device such as Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, or the older Chromecasts.

Bought one to try as both a good device for Google TV and and to see if it would be better than my Roku. This unit plugs right into the back my my TV, and because my TV does not have a newer USB port, I have to run a power cable to it, so it does not look great with my wall mounted TV. I already disconnected the Google TV service as it's really not much cheaper than cable TV and I dislike the menu UI a lot compared to Verizon FIOS. However, as a device to display streaming channels, it's pretty good, and one thing we especially like is seeing movie and TV options from all of the streaming services I subscribe to, instead of loading each service and looking for shows.
The remote is OK, and the system is actually more responsive than my Roku (the most powerful of the Roku line), and the voice search works well. The ability to bookmark shows in the main menu seems inconsistent, but I am enjoying the unit overall and it might replace our Roku for good.

Amazing and fast easy to use and a addition of a controller is amazing although I would say that the controller is really sensitive so there’s a lot of miss clicks and also slips a lot off of my hands but other then that it’s perfect

I bought this product and also an Apple TV 4K because I wanted to use 4K. Since both items arrived on the same day, I started by unpacking the Chromecast with Google 4K. I felt in love with it immediately. So much so, that I still haven’t unwrap the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation).
What I love the best about it is the remote. The device works as expected, great image quality. But the remote. During the initial setup, the remote asked me what type of TV and sound system I have, and now I can use this small remote to turn the TV on/off, mute the soundbar or change it’s volume, in addition to the functions I expected (pause the movie, fast forward, choose another movie, etc). Really well done job. It was worth every penny.

The best decision chromecast ever made so far. The best interface on all streaming devices. The addition of the remote is good too but not the best (FireTV remote). It has all of the apps and customization for the viewer's pleasure.

Very impressed. Typical, easy set up through google home. Ability to search across streaming services is wonderful. UI is a huge improvement from classic android tv. Looking forward to Google TV being imbedded in Sony, Hisense natively.

Got it for my boyfriend for Christmas and he loves it. Very easy to use and set up. He loves that you can access movies and shows from different services under one platform. Much easier to use than switching from service to service.

This is my first dedicated streaming device. I thought about a Roku and the original Chromecast, but like the idea of having the Android TV experience.
All, in all, I'm happy with the performance and picture quality. While Google TV links with some streaming sites (like Netflix), it doesn't with others (like MotorTrend). What that leaves me with is an incomplete previously watched list. Not a huge deal, but it sure would be nice.
The Google TV doesn't care about which family member is using it. It seems like every app I go into wants to know who's watching. If that was set in Google TV, it could tell the sister sites who is watching.
It would also be nice to select multiple users so you can get a combined playlist. Just sayn'
I had a little issue with the CEC feature. I typically watch TV on my cable box and Google TV would try to (well did) take over the sound going to my soundbar. Very strange.
Would I recommend this to a friend. Yes, although they would likely be a Google fanboy and good with electronics. That goes without saying for most streaming devices so Google TV isn't alone.

Probably the best streamer for the money. If you want an affordable option to Roku and Nvidia Sheild, this is your best choice. Easy setup and works well with my Visio Smart TV. Will upgrade my other TV's soon with the new Chromecast.

I use this all the time now. My TV is a little old now and using the built-in smart services can be very slow and laggy, but chromecast runs perfectly and has even more options.
The only thing that would have made it better is if the remote had some kind of grip to it. It's very small and slick, so it falls and hits the ground a lot. Still works so far, though!

I have both a Chromecast 4k device (for one week) and a Google TV (two Months). Pleased with both, especially since I am a Google/Nest home with Android cellphones. Had Roku TV's and devices for years before making this switch. Here is the difference between Roku and Google TV devices. Google is faster with more customizable. Roku is stable and consistent. Kinda like the difference between iPhone/IOS and Android phones. Both are great just depends what you value the most. If you want an experience that is straight forward, a bit walled off and works consistently with no fuss go with Roku. If you want fast, deep integration with other platforms and the ability to fully customize your experience and willing to put up with some technical difficulties occasionally then go for Google TV.
