The compatibility of this device is awesome. You can stream basically any media app from your phone to it. I even use the voice feature on the controller to control my smart home stuff that is linked to Google. Can use it to live view my Wyze cams on the tv, love it and have been using them for years. 100% worth it, turns any tv with an hdmi into a smart tv.

Switched from Roku and not turning back

I recently switched to Google Chromecast with Google TV from the 2020 version of the Roku ultra and I must admit Google has done a great job with this new version of Chromecast. The UI is much more modern and intuitive very snappy and is a refreshing experience versus the age-old UI from Roku. I have been using Roku devices since their inception but am I'm fully ingrained within the Google ecosystem. I decided to make a switch once Roku pulled YouTube TV and I couldn't be happier with my choice. The Google Assistant integration is excellent the picture quality is much better than what the Roku ultra was providing with Dolby vision turned on. If you make the switch from Roku I am sure you will be just as happy as I am!

I have a tv with Roku built in and I opt to use my chromecast because I prefer the interface as well as having my google account attached. So if I’m away from the tv and come across something I want to watch later, I can add it to my google watchlist and it will be waiting for me on the Home Screen when I get home. The remote does enough and looks nice. (Roku remotes look like toys and I don’t like the loud clicky buttons) The Google tv app can be used as a remote for when you sit down and realize the remotes over on the other side of the room.

This Chromecast device is awesome. It's easy to set up and learn how to use. The interface is super easy to navigate. So easy, in fact, that I eventually want to purchase another unit, and would gladly buy it as a gift.

I believe I have owned every brand of digital media streamer or player. So far this is the best I've used. Fast, simple to setup and use - love the remote and it integrated well with our older TV.

The BEST that money can buy! I bought this for many reasons: old Smart TV could no longer be updated, added to the Google Smart Home and price. It’s fast, easy to use... the list can go on and on. DEFINITELY worth investing!

This has made our tv viewing so much easier! It’s fast, easy to use and the remote is a perfect fit for my hand. I still can’t tell if the plug has to be plugged in all the time. That wasn’t very clear.

The TV portion works great, it was easy to install and configure. The only minor nit I have is that I wanted some native browser support via chrome and it doesn't allow that. Not a major issue if you are using it for casting/tv though.

We bought this to use instead of our Samsung Smart TV "Tizen" interface. Much faster and smoother than the Samsung UI and it makes it easier/faster to get to the shows we want to watch.

I've been waiting to be able to replace my Roku for years, I always thought the rokus UI was behind and the Google UI here is exactly what I wanted. The remote is small and easy to pair with my TV and soundbar as well

The Chromecast has always been my favorite but now that it has a remote control it's become the leader when it comes to functions. It has a browser for one. And the price is another reason to consider the Chromecast.

Great device with one major flaw...

This is a great add to any tv especially if it has HDMI but not a smart TV. I first added one to my basement tv for our treadmill and overall it has been really good to have. Perfect for streaming from Android phone to tv. Google TV is ok but would be nice to see a better layout especially for YouTube. That app gets confusing with the YouTube music app if you are not streaming from your phone. I actually have this plugged into the one HDMI port on an older 24" tv and I am able to Bluetooth pair the audio to my connected Samsung HW-T550 soundbar as there is no other input/output to get sound from the TV to another device. In a nutshell, the Chromecast sends the video to the tv and the audio to the soundbar and that is really helpful. The one flaw, and to me it is a major one is that you still need to have a wall connection plug for the device. not sure why they cant make it so the USB port on a tv can power it but for an item so small it just adds another ugly wire out the back of the tv.

Google Chromecast has always been a great entry level device for streaming and many have liked that you can just cast from the phone. But there are those, myself included, who prefer a physical remote so the Chromecast was never an ideal solution. Enter the new Google TV Chromecast. While the remote is small and cheap feeling it does exactly as one would expect it to. I was able to program it to my Sonos Playbar and control the volume and it was also able to turn my TV on and off using ARC. The setup process is done through the Google Home app on your phone or other device.
The interface is very simplistic yet informative. While it's not as quick as the Nvidia Shields Android TV interface it's still rather fluid. I was able to find any application I wanted to use including HBO Max.
The only issue I have with this device is that it's WiFi only. You can make it hard wired up to 100Mbps but only if you purchase a $20 AC Wall adapter from Google. The ethernet port should have been included in the box which is why I docked a star.

This is an upgrade after owning a previous version for years. The pairing with a 4K TV offers a beautiful picture. The installation of common media apps offers great convenience in addition to the remote.
