The biggest difference I notice between my smart tvs and this Chromecast is the speed when moving through menus. Midrange smart tvs always lag and make navigating menus tedious. This chromecast is a fair bit snappier which has been a pleasure. Having a physical remote is definitely an upgrade over my older chromecasts too!

Perfect for my room! I have a small Samsung smart tv, however, the apps are not great and it is kind of slow so maybe not so smart. This is a great addition and helps the TV work better including for older TV's, which we also still have. The remote works quick and makes it easy to type and search with voice commands.

Love it. So easy to have all my streaming services consolidated PLUS have the voice feature. It hooked up to my old TV (2013 era) so I can change input and turn on/off with the Google TV remote. My ambient screen is often up, too, showing my Google Photos which just increases my quality life by seeing tv-size pictures of back when travel possible and we could gather with family. I will say that trying to set up the volume was a pain, and since we have a separate soundbar we weren't able to get that synched through the remote.

Works great for streaming. Some older TV's do not work well with the remote but, the ones that it works with work great. I am using these on three TV's and replaced an other brand. Great for the price!

Google Chromecsast with Google TV

NOTE: This review is based on only a couple of days of use, but user experience and price have been good
UI is easy to use and works quickly and smoothly
I had a Roku Ultra? and was very displeased with slow UI, freezing, frames dropping: I have not seen any of this on the Google Chromecsast with Google TV.
The Roku was not able to show anything in 4K: blamed it on the HDMI connection not be able to deliver 4K. But the Google Chromecsast with Google TV unit appears to be deivering 4K, or, at minimum, a very sharp picture

Great alternative to other streaming devices. In particular, I was looking for a streaming device that could playback YouTube videos in 4K HDR 60 fps. Previously I had been using the Roku Streaming Stick+. However, that device would begin stuttering and prompt an onscreen message that it was overheating when playing back the 4K HDR 60 fps YouTube videos. The Google TV also has the latest UI.
The only limitations are:
- Some users have reported that is limited storage for a bunch of apps and games and there is now way to expand the storage.
- You have to use the power supply included. With the Roku, I was able to power it using my TV's USB port.

I was coming from the chromecast ultra which to me was a great product, but this was way better. With Google now integrating their standalone OS, Google tv, it makes the Chromecast that much more compelling. If you are wondering whether or not it’s worth the upgrade, it is 100% worth it. The new Chromecast introduces the multi-function remote that not only integrates with “hey Google” but also allows you to control the volume and power functions of your tv. For under $55, I can’t see a better streaming device.

This is so much better than the original Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra. My only complaint right now is it does not support Stadia which is the reason I only bought 2 not 3 of them. Setup was very easy the controller can control both the volume and power of the tv so that is very convenient.
I put one of these in the kids play room and like the fact I can set it to Apps only and locked the menu in the settings so they can not get into the apps I do not want them to have access too. Also with Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, and Plex I have it set to a kids profile so only the stuff I want them to be able to watch will show up on the video list.
As far as Stadia I heard there is a why to side load it with an APK so I will be looking into this and see if I can figure it out until it is officially supported.

Good but prefer the Roku Ultra

Great, fast, responsive, simple set up. A nice feature with this device is that it has a watchlist page where you can save any movie or show you would like to watch no matter which streaming platform it is available on. The only issue with this device is that it is skewed towards providing watching options with google. For example, when searching for a specific show or movie instead of listing ALL the platforms it is available on (which Roku does) it will list the platform that is available on if you do not have to pay extra (one that you are already subscribed to), however if its not available in a streaming service you are already subscribed to then the only pay on demand option they list is the google play option. I prefer the Roku which lists all the options and their pricing sorted by least expensive to most expensive. Even though the movie I wanted to pay for was the same price on google play as it was on amazon prime I prefered to watch on amazon prime since I had some digital purchases credit. I could still watch it on amazon prime with the google TV but I just had to go through the app manually. I will keep the google TV but I would recommend the Roku ultra to others instead. Especially if you have an iphone (I do not) since roku recently added air play support. Another point to consider when choosing between the two, Roku ultra has an aux port on the remote to physically connect your earphones whereas with the google TV you can connect with your earphones wirelessly.
