Strong Contender for Best Streaming Dongle

Overall, very impressed with the new Chromecast with Google TV but there are some lingering bugs which will hopefully be worked out over time most noticeably in the setup process as I had to factory reset 1-2 times before I got everything to work. Not quite as fast as NVIDIA Shield (obvious hardware differences aside) but still much faster than Fire Stick 4K and my Roku stick and I much prefer the Google OS and layout. I primarily use mine for streaming and game streaming from my NVIDIA gaming desktop. You do have to purchase a separate Ethernet adapter if you don't have a strong WiFi signal but overall performance, size and functionality make it a great streaming dongle.

Google chromecast is fast and offers several optilms to consume media. You can cast almost any app from your phone. You can even screen mirror if the app doesnt support casting. It also has standalone apps on the chromecast itself. All of your favorites are here from netflix to youtube. The proce is extremely attractove as well for a 4k streaming device.

This works best with You Tube TV. You can easily access all the You Tube TV channels. The interface is great. You can also access all the other streaming services you might be subscribing to.

    Great Cheaper Alternative

Bought this as a cheaper alternative to the Apple TV box. It obviously doesn't have access to the Apple App Store and the system UI isn't as clean as the Apple TV, but I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth the menu runs. And in comparison to the regular Chromecast w/o Google TV, having this menu, voice control, and access to the Google Play Store are nice touches.

The Exact Chromecast I (And You) Have Been Seeking

I wish I knew this existed before I bought a regular Chromecast. Because I have Verizon’s garbage gateway system, some channels (namely sports ones) don’t let me register the Verizon into their apps (resulting in a maddening cycle of authentication hell). In getting this particular Chromecast, it already has my stored passwords in my Google account. So as soon as I go to register on an app, it either automatically logs me in, or has a simplified service to do so. This thing is perfect, really.

I love my Chromecast Google TV. It runs everything I need it to and looks good doing it! It runs most Android programs as well, unlike other streaming sticks. My favorite 3rd party program is button mapper. I don't use Netflix, so I remapped Netflix to open up my streaming service of choice. The voice command is another great feature. No more typing out tv show names on a timely on-screen qwerty keyboard! Great product! Google does it again!

Easy to use. I would only change not syncing to the surround sound. The up/down from some reason goes to the max - or when turning on we use the surround sound remote to reduce the volume. I'm not sure if it is the remote or the surround sound that defaults to 100 volume. Other than that plenty of apps, some basic free channels, and when an upgrade comes we can easily switch out vs a build in wifi for a projector.

    • Brand response from Google Team
      Posted .

Hi there, thanks for sharing your experience about Chromecast with Google TV. We’re sorry to hear that you’re having issues with your Chromecast Voice Remote.

We recommend checking if the volume control on your Chromecast Voice Remote was properly set up. You may also control the Chromecast volume with your voice, mobile device or smart display screen.

      Here’s How:
      - To start setup, at the top right of your TV screen, select your profile > Setting.
      - Select Remotes & Accessories > Set up remote buttons > Volume control > Chromecast Volume

Note that you may experience unusual results because of a disparity between the Chromecast volume settings and the volume settings on your TV, receiver or soundbar. For example, if you mute your TV with the remote that came with it, then try to change the volume with your voice, your TV will stay muted.

If you want us to take a closer look at your device, our support team is always here to help. Fee free to contact our support team anytime We’d be more than happy to assist you here: https://support.google.com/chromecast/gethelp madebygoogle

CCwGTV is one of the best choices for devices you have for a streaming "stick", especially for its form factor. It uses USB-C so you can easily add an ethernet adapter for a hardwired network connection, but its wifi reception is pretty good as well. The interface is a bit riddled with ads, but it's also helpful at the same time since it will search all of your subscribed services from the home screen, as long as the app is supported.

It makes my smart tv so much more pleasing to look at. The overall layout is so clean and crisp it makes finding stuff to watch so easy and it even has a continue watching option from different apps outside of the apps so you don’t have to go back and forth between whatever applications you use. And the ambient mode is so amazing because of the fact that it lets you use your google pictures which just makes your tv feel more personalized. Amazing device and hasn’t given me any type of problems.

Worked right out of the box, our Sharp TV dosn't like the remote but that is not that big of a deal, still works with the chrome cast. Its nice to no longer need a phone to cast from.

This is the change Chromecast needed to stay in the Steaming Device Game. A good solid remote for screen navigation (no more using phone). Bluetooth capable for those who would like to connect a gaming controller. And the ability to play PC games using the Steam and GeForce Now app. Nice! The crown of the resistance “would have been” the ability to install Stadia from google app store. But with a little web search and effort, this is not impossible. Overall, 9 out of 10 in my humble opinion. I

Easily the best smart TV device I've used

As a techie, I'm quite picky about my devices. I've been a fan of the Chromecast line for years and when they announced this new model that properly runs Android TV I was cautiously optimistic. Absolutely blew away all expectations. Short of something like an NVIDIA Shield this is the most powerful smart TV device you'll find, especially at the price point. That power means an immensely smooth experience. It's stuttered maybe once in the month I've had it.

I am a huge Google user so when I saw they were releasing an updated Chromecast WITH a remote I was excited! Had to wait a bit to get it, but it was worth it. It seems to run android as the settings menu looks just like a phone's. Overall it is pretty fast at loading apps and even has some that Roku doesn't have. The opposite is also true though so make sure you do your research and choose the one that is best for you. For the price though, I don't think this new Chromecast can be beat.
