I also purchased them because I have most of Google's home devices, so it just made sense. Regarding the parental controls, Google lets you create separate profiles with pins for parents vs kids. This gives me peace of mind that my kids can only access the apps we approve for them. The usability is pretty solid. Make sure you download the latest update, though, before doing the additional profile creation, as that was a recent feature.

If you don't need 4k, there's rumors of a lower-spec one on the way.

We suggest clearing the app cache that might help as having a sizable amount of cache stored, would affect its performance. Here’s how:
- From the Google TV home screen, in the top right, go to the user profile icon and select Settings.
- Select Apps and choose the app you're having trouble with.
- If you can't find it, select See all apps.
- Select Clear cache and then Ok.
- If clearing the app cache didn't work, you can try to reset your Chromecast with Google TV by following the steps here: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6254654

All we have previously had were Apple TV's, however this compares to that pretty well but so much cheaper. Definitely recommend. It is easy to navigate and simple to use when logged in.
