The Chromecast device was built to operate between certain temperature thresholds. When Chromecast operates at the upper level of this range, the device becomes warm to the touch. It has been tested under high performance conditions and that the resulting temperatures are well within the safety limits specified by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in order to pass regulatory requirements.
If you think your Chromecast is overheating, try the steps below that might help:
Step 1: Unplug the Chromecast device from the power source and from the TV, and let the device cool down for 10-15 minutes.
Step 2: Try to plug the Chromecast device to a different power outlet.
Step 3: Make sure the Chromecast is correctly plugged in.
- Make sure the power outlet is not prone to surges.
- Place a Chromecast device where there is proper ventilation to dissipate heat. Avoid placing Chromecast devices near sources of warm air such as the TV’s vents.
- If the power source is plugged into the TV's USB, plug Chromecast directly into the outlet so it can get consistent power.
- If a special cable or adapter is used to connect Chromecast to the power outlet, make sure voltage does not exceed 5V.
- Make sure the TV is tuned to the same HDMI input that the Chromecast is connected to.
