Google TV is bit lame. Gone are the App specific rows. Here to stay are aggregated recommended content. For me it was over 50% content I would have to purchase as it was for services I don't subscribe to. Add in a ton of HBO Max advertising (guess they paid a pretty penny), and stuck with a ton of YouTube suggest content even with the app uninstalled. Sorry, I don't want to watch junk YouTube content in my theater room. So overall there was about 20% of content displayed on the home screen I'd actually want to watch that I wouldn't have to pay more for. The remote is lackluster too. With the big push to iptv, the remote isn't geared towards watching live tv in any way. And the lack of real play/pause/rew/ff buttons is just annoying. Not sure who'bright idea it was to go away from it and have every app have different d-pad based controls. Not an Apple fan, but they got it right in that department. As for the device itself... Usb-c is nice for expansion with hubs and Ethernet. Navigation is snappy. Color options are horrible. No dark colors, really? Google still living in Apple's shadow for no reason. Been much happier with the Tivo Stream 4k. Much better remote for live TV apps. The older Android TV home screen is nicer. Just disable the few tivo apps and it's pretty much stock. But tivo stream is improving for the aggregated approach like Google is doing for google TV.

Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Even if you pay for YouTube premium and/or YouTube tv this device on the launcher still shows you ads. there is no way to remove the ads within its settings. there is an app only mode but the entire top of the screen is still all ads and not family friendly ads either. device also gets very hot even with basic streaming. it is rather snappy and does have 4k support so for that i give it 2 stars with its price point. but the inability to get an ad free experience is something i cant get over. no matter how much money you give google they still want more. ended up giving it away
