    Showtime App issue

I purchased this product because it was verified by HBO MAX. HBO Max worked fine. However, when I used the free promotion for Showtime offered by Best Buy, the experience was horrible. When trying to view the Showtime show "Your Honor", the Showtime 30 sec pre show advertisement played an then I got a playback error several times and finally was able to see Episodes 1 and 2. But other shows also had the same issue. Neither Chromecast support nor Showtime support could diagnose or solve this issue. So I had to cancel Showtime via the Best Buy promotion and had to pay full price vis my cable provider. Other issues: Fast forward or fast reverse requires pushing the top of the circular control, then highlighting the play and/or forward or back symbols. There is no smartphone app that allows typing in user id and passwords or search. These were expected functions bases on my use of ROKU sticks

Chromecast with Google TV - Not for me!

I purchased the Chromecast with Google TV on the basis of a Wirecutter review. The Best Buy return policy expired yesterday, but if it hadn't, I'd be sending it back. First, the Wirecutter review highlights the Chromecast's home screen feature that gathers the shows you are watching. What it actually does is post the shows you've watched most recently, and in my experience, it doesn't work with all platforms. It seems to favor Netflix, Apple TV, HBO. I suspect these platforms are paying for the privilege. Second, in print the Chromecast supports ATMOS, but I couldn't make it work. Yesterday, I spent 90 minutes in a chat and phone call with a support specialist at Google and they couldn't fix the issue. In any case, the dimensionality of the Chromecast surround isn't nearly as good as the ATMOS on my Roku. Third, every few days, the volume control on the remote would stop working. It could be remedied by unplugging the Chromecast for a minute and rebooting it. Maybe I just got a lemon, but buyer beware.

The device buffers often. I bought the ethernet adapter so it is hard wired into router but it did not help. I don't believe its a network issue. Seems to be hardware or software issue. I have Roku Ultra and Apple TV 4K and they hardly ever need to buffer when wireless and never buffer when hardwired to router with ethernet.

      Hi Derek,

We appreciate your feedback. We're sorry to hear about the connection issue of your Chromecast with Google TV.

If your device is randomly disconnecting from your Wi-Fi network, we recommend performing a factory reset. Here's how you can do it:

      With the Chromecast Voice Remote:
      - In the upper right of your TV screen, select your profile and then Settings .
      - Select System and then About and then Factory Reset.

      From the Chromecast device:
      - While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV and powered, press and hold the button on the back of the Chromecast. The LED will start blinking yellow.
      - When the LED light turns solid white, release the button and the Chromecast will then reset.

We understand the poor experience you had with your Chromecast device and we would like to take a look and understand what's causing the issue. This will help us find a resolution we can offer you to improve your experience. Feel free to reach out to us here: https://support.google.com/chromecast/contactflow madebygoogle

Hi Tom215, thanks for leaving your feedback about the Chromecast with Google TV. It’s unfortunate to hear that you couldn’t get it to display 4k.

To ensure you get the best experience, we recommend checking if your setup meets the following requirements:
      - A mobile phone or tablet running Android 6.0 or later, or iPhone or iPad with iOS 12.0 or later version.
      - An active Gmail account. You may encounter issues using a G-Suite account.
      - Ensure that you have an updated version of the Google Home app.
      - A high speed Internet connection of at least 20 Mbps. Mobile hotspots and Captive portal networks are not compatible with Chromecast devices.
      - A strong Wi-Fi network connection.
      - A TV with High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) 1.3 or higher built-in. HDCP 2.2 is required to support 4K content. Most televisions that are five years old or newer and have HDMI ports will have at least one port that supports HDCP 2.2.

      Hi thoffy1,

Thanks for sharing some insights. We're sorry to hear of the performance issue with your Chromecast with Google TV.

Your Chromecast with Google TV was designed to provide you with a smooth experience. We recommend on trying out the troubleshooting steps below to see if the issue could be related to factors other than your Chromecast device:
      - Ensure that your Chromecast is connected to your 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
      - Remove other connected devices on your Wi-Fi network and see if you will still encounter the same issue. Should you verify congestion, then we recommend contacting your internet service provider for resolution.
      - We recommend a Wi-Fi network with 25 Mbps download speed that can ensure smooth 4K experience.
      - If it does not work, you may try restarting your Chromecast by going to Settings > System > Restart.
      - If it's still unresolved, perform a factory reset on the Chromecast with Google TV:
      a. While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV, hold down the button on the Chromecast device for at least 25 seconds or until the solid LED light turns into a flashing red light.
      b. Once the LED light turns blinking white and the TV goes blank, release the button. The Chromecast device will begin the reboot sequence.

I love using this device when it works. The problem is that the WiFi disconnects frequently. I have to reset my router, modem and Chromecast multiple times before it will work again. The irritating part is that the unit says the WiFi is connected successfully, when it is actually not connected. I hope that can be fixed through a software update. I would not recommend this product as is.

      Hi AdamH,

Thanks for telling us about the connectivity issue with your Chromecast with Google TV. Although it was a great idea to reset your modem, router and Chromecast, we're sorry to hear that you had to try it multiple times without fixing the issue.

Connectivity issues are always related to the bandwidth congestion of your Wi-Fi network. We recommend removing some of the connected devices in your network to free up some bandwidth space. You may then try using your Chromecast and check if you will still encounter the same issue. If the issue gets resolved, then you may need to contact your Internet service provider to check your Internet bandwidth and upgrade it if needed.

Your Chromecast with Google TV comes with a limited 1 year warranty from the date of purchase. If the issue is still persistent, feel free to contact us and we'll do our best to provide you with a better experience by visiting us here: https://support.google.com/chromecast/gethelp madebygoogle
