I can stream them but am unable to download them for trips. I contacted Google support and they referred my problem to their "specialists". They didn't do anything. I asked for a refund since I wasn't able to use their product as intended and they won't do that either. I have 2 autistic kids that have meltdowns when the internet goes out. So if that happens I have limited options to calm them down.

I was excited when they announced this 3 years ago. I got one!! I was replacing my Samsung TV's poor excuse for streaming interface. It didn't wow me but I liked the user interface at first... it got worse. Voice search got worse and worse, finally returning in mostly Youtube results when I unpluged it. It never worked well with my sound bar, flat out refusing to communicate with it directly so I had the TV translate for the soundbar. Many of the apps would stream with audio lag due to this. I found some tricks (pausing and then playing helped). It was very fast, much faster than the "smart" TV but with time it slowed and had to be reset often. Its now been replace with a Roku Ultra that is 2 years its senior. I've never said this about any Google product but I do not recommend.

The percentage moved really slow, almost like 1% every 30 seconds. The apps installation part actually took longer than all other steps. I have first gen and third gen Chromecast and they didn't take this long to setup. I think it took almost 20 minutes from power up to the very end.

The music cutting out is distracting, and I have to remain patient for it come back. I find volume control to be the most disruptive to using. It seems to default to very loud or very quite levels unlike the original Chromecasts. Not sure why. Unable to control the volume level via an app that is chromecasting on the phone (like Youtube apps, Spotify, Disney+, etc) is bothersome. You have to reach for (and find) the remote. Though muting via a casting apps does work. Perhaps this is just a bug. Overall I find the smart tv experience to be unnecessary. The remote is ok, but not great. Typing is rather slow and can be a tad frustrating. It's much simpler to open the app (Youtube, Spotify, Disney+, Netflix, etc) on my phone or laptop to find the content I'd like, then cast to the screen. The Google TV smart tv doesn't add much for me. Perhaps these minor but bothersome things shall be ironed out one day. But for now I've returned the Chromecast with Google TV and reconnected the old Chromecast 3rd Gen for a more delightful experience.
