    For me, the plain Chromecast is better.

    I use lots of streaming apps. Many don't work with Google TV. Google says that's not a problem, since you can also use this like the older Chromecast for those apps. Well I say why bother figuring what works and doesn't work with Google TV, since all my apps work with my older Chromecast. So for me, no more Google TV.

    NOT the same as the chrome-cast unit from T Mobile

    I have not yet been able to get it working properly with my old "dumb" TV in spite of having the RCA conversion. I got it working once but the color disappeared after 10 minutes. I am going to try again but it is NOT as easy to use as the unit that came with my T Mobile internet hub

    Frustrating Exploitive Step Backwards

    It is a big step backward. I don't recommend this to anyone. The interactions are very awkward. Assistant won't stream shows on command it brings you to a menu and forces you to use the remote... using the remote it is very laggy and underpowered. It doesn't have enough memory to even install all of our TV apps. You pay for the device unsubsidized and they force you to accept ads or make the device essentially worthless. Basically they hide the content and services you actually pay for, and continually promote apps and services you don't have. It got way worse after we bought our 2nd one. At this point I wish I could just get a refund on both. Google should be ashamed of this exploitive device on soo many levels.

    Worst remote experience

    The remote up and down , left and right is ok but the middle OK button is so small and so easy to give the wrong command, My hand is a medium and my finger is not that fat. I guess I have to return it and wait for a better improve version in future days!

    The good thing about this device is that, sometimes, it works. But all too often, it doesn't. This thing is totally unreliable. No matter how often I reboot the thing, restart, re-initialize, re-this, re-that, it never works for a long time. Sometimes, it will stop working, and start working again for no apparent reason. Amazingly, despite having flown across the room, landing forcefully against a wall, the thing is still showing signs of life. Get a Roku.

    Great interface, terrible 4K support

    Pretty disappointed that a lot of the apps I use don't even support 4K. Vudu and Movies anywhere don't support 4K, while they both do on Roku. Also, cannot get 5.1 on Vudu, everything is stereo only. Movies anywhere has 5.1 working, but no Atmos over Dolby digital plus. The only app that seems to work with both 4k HDR and Atmos is Netflix. I also use YouTube TV and noticed the feature that shows stats and scores for live sports is missing, again Roku has this.

    Keep your old, non GTV Chromecast.

    Keep your old Chromecast. Google TV is a terrible platform. Previously, you did not need to download the apps to your device, simply cast whatever app is on your phone onto the television. Now, it does not function properly without the apps pre-installed to the Chromecast itself. The remote functions only when it wants to. If you set it up to control your tv power and audio, it will work sometimes, it won't work sometimes. The interface is slow and laggy. The default screen is the generic home screen that looks like any other smart tv. You need to push the back button to turn on the original ambient mode. Some apps cast on this new device with no audio. Some apps don't cast at all. Literally everything that made Chromecast the best option has been un-done with the new iteration. Immediately returned the device and went back to my old non GTV Chromecast and still love it. I've always recommended Chromecast to friends over other smart TV options. I still feel this way about their old devices. Please bring back the non GTV option.

    Remote sucks

    The device itself is excellent and the way the content is presented is really good. My issue is the remote it very rarely works which really kills the entire experience. I have tried every single method to list it online to get the remote to work properly and it will not work it's garbage. I'm very disappointed.

    Stutters.

    Many streaming apps result in stuttering during video playback. It's not my internet, i have a high end WiFi6 router with gigabit fiber service. Plex also stutters. To make matters even more annoying the TV is 1080p so nothing we're streaming is 4K.

      Here are some steps you can try out that may be helpful with the stuttering issue:
      - If you're using a modem/router combo, we recommend removing Chromecast from your Wi-Fi 6 network, and try connecting it to your combo. This will help isolate if there might be a setting in your Wi-Fi 6 network that's causing the issue.
      - Try resetting Chromecast with Google TV (4K). Keep in mind that resetting it will erase all data and that you may need to set it up again. Here's how:
      a. With the Chromecast Voice Remote:
      - In the upper right of your TV screen, select your profile and then Settings.
      - Select System and then About and then Factory Reset.
      b. From the Chromecast device:
      - While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV and powered, press and hold the button on the back of the Chromecast. The LED should start to blink yellow.
      - When the LED light turns solid white, release the button, and the Chromecast should then reset.

    Does not connect to anything other than the remote

    This has been the most frustrating piece of garbage to work with. No matter what I do, I cannot pair this device with anything other than the stupid remote it comes with. I've done everything that has been suggested from google and youtube from power cycling the router, disabling AP isolation, resetting my network settings on my phone, enabling local network settings, to factory resetting the new chromecast several times and I always get the "something went wrong. A tv may be set up but we could not communicate with it from your 'device'" message. I've tried to connect on multiple devices (iphone, ipad, android phone). NOTHING WORKS. I've been at this for about 3 hours and just want to break this piece of junk.

    Beware. Not for families with kids

    A great device but there are no parental controls. It forces you to have you tube. You can’t put a pin to lock any Channels. You can’t put a pin to prevent the download of any channels. It shows ads for shows That are not kid appropriate. You can’t set up kid accounts that only shoe appropriate material. Please fix this Google!

    Chromecast 4K

    Bought this to compliment my new Samsung Smart TV and experiencing an awesome streaming. ChromeCast 4K has a better hardware than the older version. Highly recommend it.

    Underpowered budget device

    I really liked the device at first. It was fast and snappy, performed way better than the Fire Stick 4K. However, as months passed, the device started being laggy, slow to respond to the remote, apps crashing, YouTube crashing, the voice assistant lagging or taking 10+ seconds to even register the command, etc... Looking into the internet, you'll find many are experiencing this lag and blaming it on the underpowered CPU and RAM. The device had so much promise, but Google had to kill it by cutting corners. I generally am a Google-phile, with Pixel, speakers and displays all over my house, it's unfortunate the this device fails to live up to the promise of Google.

    Do Not Buy If You Want 4K Streaming!

    This device is severely limited in 4K content. It does not have 4K streaming for Fox Sports or Amazon Prime (both of which the Amazon Fire Stick has). The Fire Stick 4K also has the remote, and has way more 4K content
