Very poor range
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.For starters, in order to use the high powered channels for maximum range you need to pay money and obtain a license from the FCC. According to the package in mountainous terrain you should expect a range of at least 2 to 3 miles, we were on a road trip driving over the rockies on I70, and at best we could get about a half mile of range. So the range of these radios awful, if you don't pay for the FCC license, you're not supposed to use the high power channels which are more than twice as powerful so should have twice the range. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because when doing electrical work at home, I found the radio convenient, and it did work within the our home, but I wouldn't trust for hiking or going on a road trip, we had to end up using cell phones since the radios advertised range was a joke.
