Does It's Job
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This comes in very handy when I buy a real nice bottle of wine that does not get finished in one night. This is real easy to use even if you never had a wine preserver before. This is a bargain considering the amount of money you will save when you can preserve pricey bottles of wine.

Takes the mystery out of aging wines.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been reluctant to purchase one of these since it is rare that we do not finish a bottle of wine we have opened. I have 2 wine refrigerators, one for bottles we plan to drink soon after purchasing and the other is used to let wine age. It is really nice to be able to be able to extract a taste of a couple of aging wines to see how they are coming along without ruining them or having to drink the entire bottle. I have sampled several bottles trying to decide which to serve and trust that they will be fine when I do open them. As a test we served 1 glass out of a bottle and 2 glasses out of another and let them sit for 10 days. When we opened them the wine was as good as the day we sampled them with the Coravin. We have also used the Coravin to serve wine while on the patio, it keeps the bugs out and is kind of fun to serve this way. I wish I had gotten one of these sooner, it takes the mystery out of knowing when to serve aging wines.

Well designed, easy to use, and very effective
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As I write this review, I'm sipping a fantastic South African red from a bottle from which I first poured a glass almost three weeks ago. The wine tastes just as good today as it did when first opened. During this time I've been able to enjoy an occasional glass without ever removing the cork and without needing any special type of storage. That's the promise of the Coravin system and this unit totally delivers. The Model Three is a compact and well designed device that allows you to easily penetrate the cork of an unopened wine bottle, pour as much as you need, and then remove the device when done, leaving the cork automatically re-sealed. Coravin claims that bottles decanted with the device can be stored without degradation of the contents for a year or more and based on my experience I have no reason to doubt this. The genius of the system is that it uses a replaceable screw-in capsule of compressed Argon gas. the system injects the gas into the bottle and then the corresponding amount of wine is decanted. Argon is the most noble gas on earth and is completely inert, while still having the same solubility characteristics as oxygen. In other words, it's just like the bottle had not been opened and exposed to air. Each cannister of Argon is good for about 15 5oz glasses of wine. They're easy to screw into place and replacements are widely available for under $10 each. Discounts are available for standing orders. The system works through a needle which penetrates the cork. For screw top bottles there's a special screw top lid adaptor which works with the needle and self-seals afterwards. Using the device is simple. Just position the guide/clamp around the top of the bottle and push down on the handle to insert the needle. A trigger dispenses some Argon into the bottle and allows the corresponding amount of wine to be decanted. When done, simply remove the device and rinse to clean. A short burst of gas blows any residual wine or water out of the needle. It's incredibly easy and takes just a few seconds. The other great advantage of this system is that unlike vacuum based systems that require a stopper to replace the cork, you can use this system on as many bottles as you like - just leave the original cork in place. It's genius. For anybody who enjoys a variety of wines but doesn't usually consume a full bottle in one sitting, or who shares with friends from a large collection, this is a great tool that will make your enjoyment of wine easier (and less wasteful) than ever. Highly recommended. Pros: - Keeps wine well preserved for a year or more. - Easy to use and quick to clean up - Can use on as many bottles as you like - New "smart clamps" design makes attaching to each bottle completely foolproof. - Compact for easy storage and portability. - Replacement Argon cannisters readily available. Cons: - Continued use requires ongoing purchase of Argon capsules. - Works best for corked bottles. If you use many screw top bottles, you may need additional screw top adaptors (these are available in sets). - Needle will eventually become worn or clogged and will need to be replaced. Replacement needles are available for about $25 each.

A Nice Idea. If Only It Worked Consistently
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first learned of the Coravin Model 3, I was quite excited at the prospect of a device that would keep a bottle nice and fresh till the last drop. In my house we often have several bottles open at a time because preference varies from family member to family member and sadly not all bottles get finished before the wine becomes undrinkable. When the device arrived I couldn't wait to pull open the box and step into the future of wine technology. The directions were straightforward and assembly was minimal. I spent far more time figuring out which bottle I was going to use it with. One thing I would like to note is that if one wanted to use the Coravin on a regular basis, they would need to spend upwards of $50 at a time to buy new capsules of the argon gas required to operate it. For a device that already costs $199 to begin with, I feel that the total investment over time would not be worth the benefits. Unless you're drinking some extremely pricey wine, I think you're better off simply sticking with the trusty old corkscrew or cork puller and putting you cash towards a few more bottles. I will say that the first time I used the device was quite impressive. Following the included directions to the letter, the unit slid onto the bottle with utmost ease and I was able to fill my first glass "the Coravin way" with no problem. Unfortunately, that first glass was also the last glass that I was able to fill without issue. When trying to fill a second glass later in the day, using the same bottle, no matter what I did I could not get the Coravin to dispense my wine without the wine also dripping out from below the spout of the device where it comes in contact with the bottle. I reread and reread the directions looking for any indication that I was doing something wrong, but I found nothing to indicate that I was. I tried 2 other bottles of wine with it, figuring that perhaps somehow the same of the bottle was the culprit. Nope! Same issue. As I said in my title, the idea behind the Coravin wine preservation system is is wonderful. Especially if you are into the pricier wines out there. The execution, however, leaves something to be desired.

Great wine accessory for keeping wine fresh!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This accessory is perfect for people that maybe don’t drink a full bottle or will now open another knowing it won’t go bad. It takes a setup but once going thru the directions it is an easy process. Using this has made us purchase higher priced wine as we know it will keep the wine as fresh as can be. I know of a great wedding present for a couple that loves wine.

Pretty decent
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used this product for a few weeks now and I can say its okay. I am really not that impressed. If you plan on opening some wine and not drinking it for a very long time, purchase this product to save it. If you are like me and drink a bottle at a sitting or within a day or two I would wait to see if there is a price drop. The ease of use is there, good direction with the development. Just needs to be a bit more user friendly in my opinion.
