Works well off the bat but after having purchased several of the Corsair brand headsets they all had the same outcome. Quick to fall apart, would not recommend.

Software is terrible. Mic gets stuck muted and a software and headset restart is needed each time. With the included cable, the headset will change for maybe a minute and then stops. Very annoying. Otherwise decent headset.

    A great headset for gaming

The HS80 Max is a good headset for folks who play games across platforms. The USB wireless dongle is compatible with PC and Playstation. The Bluetooth is for Nintendo switch or phones/tablets. The headset sound seems geared directly for gaming and video content. You can use it on PC with Corsair’s iCue software and the 2.4GHz wireless dongle for control of the RGB on the headset. I ran with the RGB on and off, and strangely, they sound exactly the same either way! I like the RGB ring on the mic boom, it switches to red when you are muted. The mic mutes by flipping up or you can set a shortcut in the iCue software for a headset button shortcut. There are a lot of functions available for the button programming on the headset, a very nice feature. I think I’m going to map my volume wheel click to the Discord mute keybind like a cough button? You can use iCue for keystrokes, voice mods, your own voice loopback and others. The inclusion of Dolby Atmos is a nice perk. I tested a few games, The Division 2, Battlefield 2042, and Destiny 2. I found my directional awareness based on sounds was not terribly accurate. I do not get a feel of any directional indications beyond left/right even though Atmos is enabled and selected for the headset. I have another headset that is wired that uses Atmos, and it has much more of a directional feel. The sound in games and movies is very good though, plenty of bass and high end for brass and strings. Gun sounds get a little boost from the low-mid bump in the sound, which is fun. I did not think it was great for music, the sound feels almost too close, I’m very aware that I am wearing a headset and that headset isn’t wowing me with outstanding clarity or soundstage. I don't expect to ever use these for music listening, though. The 2.4GHz wireless dongle seems to have slightly better sound than a Bluetooth connection, but that could just be a little confirmation bias on my part. The other thing to note is that this headset will not do multipoint, which means if you are in Bluetooth mode or wireless dongle mode, it stays that way until you switch it. Some headsets will let you connect to your phone and have game sound mixed with sound or music from your phone. This headset does not do that. The microphone is stellar. I get similar sound to my desktop mic, which is really impressive. Other gamers in chat on TeamSpeak and Discord said it sounds great as well. Corsair headsets and my giant noggin have been at odds since I tried my first set years ago. I’ve enjoyed the quality of all the other Corsair gear I’ve had (and still have) with few hiccups. The headsets, however, treat my skull like a weak child doing their best to crush my head from above my ears. These are a little better. The suspension band style seems to allow just that little bit more room that they just fit. I think if you have a giant head, you’ll want to try them on in the store first to make sure they fit well. I can play comfortably with the HS80 Max for about 2 hours, so it may be a great way to remind me I’ve been gaming too long :) Another piece of high quality gear from Corsair, recommended!

PC/BT duality, maybe my new favorite headset.

Maybe my new favorite headset? I’ve been a heavy user of another brand of headset for years, and I do still like them, but the Corsair HS80 Max has impressed me and, for now at least, has taken over as my primary headset for work, fun, and games. The first thing that stands out is what feels like outstanding build quality. I know, this is hard to quantify but subjectively speaking the HS80’s have a great feel right out of the box that set you up to practically expect audio excellence. The second thing to stand out then, of course, is the audio excellence. Even in stereo mode the HS80’s sound great, with a healthy but unassuming presence on the low end while maintaining excellent balance and clarity through the mids and highs – It’s very easy to become immersed in the HS80 audio for gaming and movies, especially if/when you activate the free Dolby Atmos ability. That said, like many audio products I’ve tried before, I personally hear voices more clearly with Dolby Atmos disabled. That’s a personal subjective preference, and it’s easy enough to switch between Atmos/Stereo as you prefer for your content. If you don’t like the default tuning you can tweak the EQ yourself using the iCue software. I love that the microphone (usually) intuitively mutes when you flip it up and unmutes when you flip it down. And there’s an LED near the mic tip to see which mode it’s in out of your peripheral vision. That said, there were a few times when I’d have the mic up and yet I could see the mic LED was still on. To fix this I’d flip it down and back up, but it was just a touch unsettling to feel the need to second-guess the mute at all. Not a deal breaker, if there’s a pattern or good reason for it to ever be unmuted in the up position I didn’t come across it, so just be aware. The RGB aspect is there but it’s pretty subdued, limited to just the small logo on the side of each ear cup. For me it’s fine because I use this same headset for work calls during the day, but if you’re looking to make more of a visual statement then this probably isn’t the headset for you. The comfort is decent and the battery life is great. The floating headband feels good on my head even for multi-hour sessions, and I’ve never run out of battery in the middle of anything except when I deliberately ran it down just to see how long (many days) it would take my normal usage to do so. By default the headset shuts down automatically after 10 minutes of no-signal which means you can set it down and be confident it’ll take care of itself. I found the Bluetooth aspect a bit unusual but in a good way. When you turn the HS80 on while using their audio dongle the HS80 will use the dongle for media audio but will also bind to JUST the phone aspect of your phone, so you can listen to your computer and then take a call on your phone (which mutes the PC audio), and when your call is done it will switch right back to getting media-only from the computer. Then, if desired, you can tap the left-cup button and the HS80 will transfer media functions to over Bluetooth as well. One more tap it switches back to dual mode. As someone who loves listening to music and videos on my computer all day but who needs to take calls on-the-fly this connection duality served me very and was a standout from the more typical “one or the the other” kind of dual connectivity I’ve experienced previously.

everything about this headset kind of upsets me. The fact that there is no Bluetooth mix for mobile device, as well as a lack of mic monitoring was a big turn off for me when I opened the box. and another really annoying this was the bright LED that does not turn off , gets very annoying after a while. the earmuffs are just as disappointing as the previous Corsair headset I had which ended up disintegrating after a few weeks. this one however I will say feels more robust but unfortunately the level of comfort is not as I expected.

      Hi,

You can adjust the Sidetone (microphone monitoring) and RGB lighting via our iCUE software. The ear muffs should not be disintegrate within a few weeks. Starting off, I have to say Corsair made some nice improvements with this headset over previous models. I’m on a headset throughout the day, whether its for work meetings during the day or gaming in the evenings with friends. I’ve used Corsair headsets throughout the past 15 years or so, first one being a basic wired one along with a handful of other high end wireless ones. Starting off, the range is amazing. This is more important for my meetings as I like to move around the house during remote meetings, its perfect! I recently had to move my home office but keep my work computer in the old office, and I can be anywhere in the house (2500sq/ft) with a clear solid signal, love it! The next benefit to this is the battery life. I charged it last week and used it for several days already with no issues, which is not surprising since it states it can handle up to 65 hours (130 hours with Bluetooth!) I also really enjoy the minimal buttons on the headset….a lot. Headsets come with a mix of buttons and dials, all stuff that gets confusing trying to figure out what is what in the dark or while playing a game. They kept it super simple….power and bluetooth, and they’re on opposite ear pieces. Plus you have a volume control. The mute is tied to the mic position, raise the mic and it gets muted, lower it and you are unmuted. Simple and easy. The one thing I’m not a fan of is the comfort of the ear pieces. I do not have big ears, but wearing this for an hour or longer can make my ears sore and uncomfortable, but you don’t notice it for awhile since the padding is soft. I wish they used the soft padding of previous models of their headset such as the Virtuoso, very cushy. There’s also not much of a way to fold these headsets if you plan to travel with them, they do flatten but no carry case is included with them. Gaming sounds great and clear, especially with the Atmos technology. My gaming buddy told me I sounded loud and clear right off the bat and he didn’t even know I upgraded headsets. Atmos gaming is a must when possible, particularly for first person shooters such as the Call of Duty games where footsteps are crucial. The iCue software allows you to manage lighting on the headset, key assignments, even install an Nvidia Broadcast to work with it. Additional lighting will drain the battery faster so I usually won’t use it. Overall I’m quite impressed with this headset. The range, simplicity, and battery life make it a great choice even for non-gamers, but gaming is great. I generally can’t have my computer speakers as loud as I’d like since my office is next to our kids room, the headset def makes up for it. My past Corsair headsets have lasted for years without issues, and Corsair also carries a nice 2 year warranty which gives me peace of mind.

DO NOT purchase. These headphones would connect to my pc but i could not get a clear audio. I was happy to hear Corsair came out with there new Corsair HS80 Max gaming Headset and had to get my hands on a pair. I had currently owned the HS80's and have been happy with their performance. So what's so great about the Max? Well cosmetically they are identical with the exception of the new bluetooth button on the back right earphone. This is definitely not a bad thing since I feel they are pretty darn comfortable on my ears and head even when I'm wearing my glasses which is a problem with some headsets. Now I would say I have a medium size head, so might be concerned with comfortability if you have a pretty large head. You have the ability to switch out the ear cushions, but never have felt the need since there stocked cloth ones are very comfortable. One thing that matters to me most with any headphones I own, is battery life while gaming. It was great to hear that these new HS80 Max's had increased that battery life. Although It has cool RGB lighting, I turn the brightness down to save battery life. I have been using this headset for the past 3 days and can definitely notice the increased battery life compared to the original HS80's. Since I still have not had to charge them yet. I believe there is about a 4 hour difference between the two models. So far so good. The new bluetooth option is cool if wanting to listen to music or maybe pick up a phone call during game play, but you cannot simultaneously listen to music and hear the game at the same time which to me is not a deal breaker since I use discord to play some tunes while I game. You can also use Sound ID through Corsair's Icue app which can help you adjust the sound the way you like it. To be honest, I use the Dolby Atmos app with the headset which creates amazing sound quality. Note that this option is also available on the HS80's. If you are looking for a quality gaming headset with multi use platforms, then don't look any further. These are high quality headphones, extremely comfortable and sound amazing!

The Corsair HS80 Max is a very well made, comfortable and immersive gaming headset that I have really enjoyed using for the PS5. The packaging is very sleek and as expected for a high end product. The build quality is also quite good. The Good: - The Dolby Atmos spatial sound is amazing. Let me just reiterate that....its Amazing. I have never experience Dolby Atmos Spacial audio before from a headset and I was unsure how I would feel about it. However, it is really neat technology and I plan on gaming with this headset vs the TV speakers. It is awesome. - Again the build quality. It is top notch and typical Corsair. The frame of the headset is really well constructed. The memory foam ear cups is incredibly comfortable, especially for long wear. The Microphone is well made and even the floating headband. I wasn't sure about the floating headband at first but it is perfectly comfortable and well constructed. - The headset can be connected to a PC, Mac, PS5 and PS4 so a bunch of options out of the gate. - They offer RGB lighting for the headset which is a neat option - You can custom tailor the sounds to fit your audio needs. (I have not explored this but this is a great feature). - Long battery life. If the battery dies while playing, Corsair claims 15 minutes of charging will net you up to 6 hours of play time. That is impressive. Corsair is a phenomal peripheral brand and this headset is case and point that. I highly recommend this headset. Between its comfortable and aesthetically pleasing design to the incredible dolby atmos spatial audio sound, this will enhance your gaming routine...it has for me.

Sounds Amazing, Uncomfortable for Larger Heads

So far with this headset, I've been impressed by the sound quality and ease of connection. The sound is fantastic and the included Dolby Atmos access is incredible and simulates sound from all around you. I can hear every detail much better than through normal speakers. The ear pieces breath really well and my ears don't get too hot during extended play sessions. I also like the automatic mute feature when you flip up the the microphone. The battery life has been excellent so far as well. I've gone 16 hours without charging and it's still going strong. The reason I cannot give these headphones a higher rating is there is no adjustment options to make them fit larger heads. My head IS larger than normal but it's not that huge and these barely cover my whole ear. If I could slide the ear pieces down half an inch on each side, they would be perfect. Instead, the only size adjustment is to make them fit smaller heads using the elastic padding strap. I have the adjusted strap as loose as possible and they still don't fit me. Another negative is with the strap as loose as it will go, the metal headband digs into the top of my head and is very uncomfortable unless I move the headband on the top of my head every so often. So while the sound is great, I cannot recommend to folks with larger heads like me.
