Great Keyboard
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price this is a great keyboard. The switches for the keys are perfect for games and typing. The iCue software for customization of the lighting effects is tedious and could be so much easier if they added a few simple options. However, other people have powered through and there are a vast amount of effects that you can download and import. The lights are pretty bright. If you have any effect that shifts colors like a grradient there is some white. I'd buy it again if it broke.

9/10 Lighting, 10/10 switches, 10/10 gaming.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Aesthetics: This part is always personal preference. But in my opinion besides the Corsair K70 MK.2 SE this is the best-looking keyboard of their line. LIGHTING: The low-profile switches allow the RGB lighting to come out better than on any of their other boards. They also completely redesigned this switch from the ground up to make the lighting better. The light comes through and surrounds the base of the key and also the letters/symbols on the keys themselves. This means when highlighting only certain keys (for example wasd) you will get minor light bleed on qezxc. Also, due to the double symbols (example: 3 #) the 3 will be bright but the # won’t be. This isn’t a new problem and is better on this keyboard than the normal sized keycaps. I believe Razer has the best RGB lighting out of anyone with their Huntsman Elite and would rate theirs 10/10 and I would rate this board 9/10 for lighting. The black brushed aluminum is 10/10. Looks and feels fantastic. The whole board is also very light and feels SOLID. The length and width are the same as their other boards but height comes in at 29 mm vs 40 mm which is noticeable difference which makes it look like it is almost melding into your desk. There is no cable management on the underside like other Mk.2 boards and I think the K95 Platinum. This is likely from it being low profile which doesn’t allow the extra space needed for that. However, as is common with all Corsair boards it builds dust/hair/debris easily. But can also be cleaned easily. I am still not a fan for the huge gross font of Corsair boards. The font on Huntsman Elite to me is perfect. It is professional enough that I could take it anywhere. This font makes it look to gamer like which is a shame because the rest of this keyboard is very nice. But I suppose they do that to let more light through and for old folk like my Dad who can’t read well without their glasses (he literally said this was a pro for him. I promise I’m not taking pot shots at him lol). Feel: I already mentioned that the aluminum and the overall build quality of this board is fantastic. It feels very well put together and coming in under 3 lbs. makes it very light. With it being so low to the ground it takes a little getting used to because you get used to other boards being so ridiculously tall. The overall construction of the board is top notch. On the bottom of the board itself you have four large rubber pads on the edges to make sure it won’t be moving anywhere and not damage your desk. The actual steps to incline the board came in one stage and is very minor and faced horizontally instead of vertically since I know for some this is important. However, ergonomically speaking you shouldn’t have those up. This keyboard feels solid. It doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall apart. But does it feel like it’s worth $200? I almost want to say yes it does. It feels just as solid as the K70’s if not more so. On the bottom of the board there are some rubber pads which make it not damage the desk that it is sitting on and also makes it so it won’t move. The actual steps to incline the board come in two stages and are vertical instead of horizontal. I know some people prefer those in a certain direction. But ergonomically you shouldn’t have those up. The keys themselves, I think are ABS plastic, which some hate. At this point with a few weeks of normal use I find them to grippy which his nice for typing and playing games. But mileage may vary there. They are also wider than your normal keycaps which makes typing and gaming easier because you have more surface area to hit. Last, due to the short profile of the cap itself you don’t have to raise your fingers much when typing or gaming which makes everything seem fast and snappy. For example, I type about 115 WPM with this keyboard compared to around 100 – 108 wpm on the K70 or Huntsman Elite. The new cherry MX low profile speed switches feel good. They feel solid. There isn’t key wobble that I have noticed. It is strange because they say it has 45 grams of actuation but it feels like I need more pressure than that. Like browns/blacks. The whole key press itself is stiff. It’s linear but not nearly as buttery smooth as I’m used to with their normal speed switches. Or at least what I had with the K70 MK.2 SE which could have been partly due to the more robust/heavier PBT keycaps. For those unaware it also has an actuation point at 1.0 mm with total travel of 3.2 which makes it one of the fastest switches out there. Overall the typing experience is pleasant but not amazing like it was with the MK.2 SE or the Razer Huntsman Elite. But when it comes to gaming these switches feel great. Typing/gaming on this keyboard is less fatiguing simply because it feels like you have to move your fingers less than on a regular board. With the board being so low too you don’t need a wrist rest because the desk is right there. So, for those who struggle with carpel tunnel syndrome or the like might find some relief with these since it puts your wrists at a more natural angle. The profile, brightness, and windows keys feel great. Along with the multimedia keys. The multimedia keys RGB is fantastic. Last, is the volume scroll wheel. It is pretty stiff which is both good and bad. At times I feel like it catches which makes it hard to do fine adjustments because it will give and move up or down too much while other times with it being stiff makes it easier to fine adjustments. Strange I know. On the bottom of the board it’s got some fancy nice look lines. A sticker with information, four large rubber pads, and a small slot that is horizontal to raise the keyboard slightly. All of which is great. Click Test: Stiff, linear, and quiet. Personal Pros and Cons: Pros: A. Silent, speed, keys that are low profile (45 gram force with 1.0 mm actuation with 3.2 total travel). B. Lower to the ground puts wrists in less awkward angle. C. Low-profile caps allow easy gliding across which increases typing speed and gives more precise gaming. Also, are wider which makes finding correct key easier. D. Great RGB. 9/10. E. Light keyboard <3 lbs. No that isn’t a heart saying love lbs. lol F. Excellent braided cable. G. USB passthrough. H. Full key (NKRO) I. Excellent dedicated media controls (play/pause, forward/backward, stop with volume rocker) J. Brushed aluminum finish Cons: a. 1 ms bounce time. (Which is standard, but Razer Huntsman Elite is like 0.3 ms Granted, either is imperceptible to humans). b. Only 3 profiles with 8 mb of space. c. No account/cloud storage. Which makes it so you must recreate your profiles on another computer or if you need to reinstall windows and forgot to save your actual files somewhere. That is assuming they are too large for the stored profiles. d. Lame wrist rest. You pay so much money. Give me some fake leather like Razer does. e. No shortcut key for sleep. Razer has this which I love. I recreated it with a macro though. f. 3 stage brightness. Compared to multistage brightness from Razer. g. Keys are stiff which isn’t the best typing experience. This is also good though to help prevent mis clicks. h. Ugly font on keycaps. i. Uneven lighting for secondary characters. (example 4 and $). Overall Impressions: This is a top tier keyboard. I absolutely love it. I think it’s stupid expensive. But the switches, RGB, features, software, and aesthetics are great and everything that someone would want out of keyboard. Or at least almost everything. There is no perfect keyboard. But this one gets close. Performance: Theoretically, you are buying this keyboard to have an advantage on others through the low-profile keys and speed switch. I can’t attest to this making you faster. Perhaps with something where rapid keypresses would be needed, you’d see a difference. But I have noticed that when playing games that it has increased responsiveness. For example, it feels like the keyboard and my brain are on the same level. It feels like when I press the key it’s already done on my screen. Whereas, previously it felt like I would press the key and very quickly thereafter it would show up on the screen. There is no other keyboard I would want to use for gaming because the fluidity of hitting different keys is easy. This is due to being able to glide across the top, the position of my hand is flat due to the low-profile nature, and the wider keys themselves make it easier to find the offhand keys such as “g” or “t” or “f1” etc... I find it easier for me to make complex moves with this keyboard than others due to those low-profile caps and my fingers not having to move as much. I don’t know if the particular speed function of that makes a big difference or not. The spacebar itself feels AMAZING. Seriously, it doesn’t rattle or make any noise. I love it. The other bonus with these keys is they are silent (or at least as quiet as you can get). This is great for those that stream, play games with others often, or who game/type with other people in the room. Software: The ICUE software is incredibly powerful. You can do pretty much whatever you want. One thing that I missed with my Razer keyboard that this didn’t have was the alternate “fn” key. Through this software I was able to create my own “f” key. Through this software I was able to create my own “fn” key but with a corsair board. The software updates live. It takes a little getting used to but for the most part is very simple. Especially, for basic tasks.
