I have found that it lays mostly flat on first roll-out with a little help needed on the left hand side with something heavy to keep it flat against the desk. This flattens nicely after a couple of days. The surface is smooth like silk, but dry hands like mine do get snagged in the fibers. Moisturizing before gaming helps with that. The mouse pad has a premium feel and new rubber odor is minimal, dissipates in a day or two.

Nice thick and wide Mouse Pad

It also has a nice thick edge which I believe will minimize curling up of the ends. My last pad was thin and it curled up on the ends. This pad looks like it will last much longer than my last one.
