Customers are saying

Customers enjoy the superb sound quality and comfortable fit of the VOID RGB ELITE Wireless headset. Many appreciate the long battery life and wireless convenience, along with the customizable RGB lighting. However, some users find the headset to be a bit large and heavy, and the volume control could be improved. A few also noted that the bass response and software could be enhanced.

I’ve had these for a few years now and they’ve held up remarkably well. Sound quality is as good as the day I got them and the exterior plastic and foam are unscathed. The padding on the ears are also good. I’ve seen some other products use leather-like materials, but those always felt uncomfortable and stuffy. These feel soft and light. I can only think of two major downsides. One is that the microphone quality isn’t the best and has begun to degrade slightly over time, though it’s certainly not the worst. The second issue is that it doesnt support bluetooth. If you don’t plan on using bluetooth like myself then that’s fine, but should you ever wish to that is something to keep in mind. Overall I would say there are better options out there but if you don’t want to spend a fortune these are a good option.

THE GOOD -Wide, comfortable band -Mesh earcups -Well-padded headband -Simple controls on headset -Good battery life THE BAD -Low mic levels -No slot to store USB dongle in headset -Can't be used in wired USB mode ( using while charging requires cables AND dongle ) -Can't store presets or settings in headset itself THE TL/DR The Corsair Void RGB Elite is a comfortable, no frills wireless headset that does its job well and is affordable to boot. THE DETAILS My first thought when trying on the Void RGB Elite was, "These are too loose; they'll fall off." However, that's only in the context that I was so used to other much tighter headsets. Over longer periods of time I find the Void causes less ear fatigue and is much more forgiving while wearing glasses, but never once have I had it accidentally fall off. Wearing it multiple days through work was never an issue. The headband uses a super squishy memory foam that is also quite comfortable. And though I know leather, or fake leather, earcup material is all the rage, I'm happy the Void uses a cloth mesh, as I find it breathes much easier, so my ears don't get as hot and I don't have sweat building up on the ear pads. The headband also has a wide adjustable size range. The mic is not detachable, but it does rotate up and out of the way, so it's almost as good. The boom is flexible along most its length so you can bend it to your preferred position, but it does not telescope. When rotated up, the mic is disabled by default, and turns on when you swing it down. The activation point is pretty high up, so it's somewhat easy to accidentally activate ( conversely it's nearly impossible to accidentally mute ). Default mic levels seem to be very low. I had to increase mic gain considerably to be heard. The only controls on the headset is a power button, mic mute, and a volume rocker ( MUCH preferred over a free spin dial ). I see this as a good thing ( fewer things to confuse your fingers when trying to operate it by feel. However, considering the mic is muted by simply rotating it up, the mic mute button is pretty useless. I think that space would have been better used for an EQ preset button, unfortunately the Void can't store EQ or lighting presets oboard when you use it on a computer or PS4 that's not running Corsair's iCUE software. Speaking of iCUE, iI find it hit and miss. It's fairly straightforward in customizing the lighting and EQ on the headset, but I also saw a lot of red and yellow ! icons, making me think it was reporting issues with the headset ( I wasn't able to find anything, so a lot of false positives? ). I recommend leaving the RGB off since it extends the battery life, and it's not like you can see it anyway. The battery charges through a normal micro USB connection, but unfortunately the headset can't operate that way. You can use it while charging it, but you still need the USB dongle connected as well, meaning it takes two ports. But all in all, for only $100, the Void is a compelling headset. A lot of similar featured headsets ( wireless, RGB, 7.1 surround ) tend to be in the $150+ range. So finding one that's more comfortable than most and doesn't lose, if any functionality, but for $50 less is a good deal. The low mic gain is annoying, but not a deal breaker. I'd like the headset to have some kind of storage compartment for the USB dongle, but again that's not critical. This seems like a well-rounded headset in a very affordable price range.

    A solid headset

Corsair® Void RGB Elite wireless stereo gaming headset— what a long name it has. It feels like a tank and I have to caution you that it weighs like one, too. (It tops the scale at 13 1/2 ounces.) If you are looking for a lightweight headset for voice dictation (for example), I have to tell you that this headset is not really marketed for such use although works extremely well for voice dictation (which is something I use daily basis) – it has I believe a noise canceling microphone and it even comes with the sponge (microphone guard) that minimizes the wind noise. Setting up is very easy. It is really not fully charged, and you need to plug it in using the supplied USB cable for at least an hour, or two. Most of the controls are actually on the headset but I prefer to only use the volume control which is cleverly done. You push it backwards, and the volume goes up, and you push it forward, and the volume goes down. The top of the headset will expand to accommodate someone with a large head – like myself. The headset comes with a little USB transmitter which supposedly work up to 40 feet away (unobstructed). Pairing is already done but a little button on it can be pressed if you need to do that. It is best to download the program and I don't want to give you a website address because a newer version will have a different address. Go here instead http://www.corsair.com/support/downloads and choose iCUE software (which controls all the hardwares made by this company.) You will be able to turn on easily the surroundsound feature and you can turn on the little LCD light on the sides (or turn it basically off altogether.) According to the manual, the USB port has to be a high-power, so needless to say, it is best probably not too connected to a hub. The little dial that controls the volume can be pressed inward and it will toggle the surroundsound to off, and on. But if you press quickly it toggles the EQ setting. You really need to use the iCUE software to understand many of the settings—without it, some features don’t work. This is the type of headset that completely covers your ears. I still can hear the ambience noise and I don't think I actually wants a pair of headset that blocks all the sound probably due to safety. But with the volume set too high, you may be unable to hear the ambience noise. I played on old game—System Shock II—re-released for Windows 10. It works well with the headset, but I cannot really tell much difference between stereo versus surroundsound. I tried a newer game – BioShock II, and it became clear that when the surroundsound was on, I could distinguish the differences. This is a good (and will probably last long time) gaming headset. It works well enough for voice dictation as I am using the program right now to "write" this review. However, it is not a very light headset weighting almost a pound and you have to get use if you have a big head the initial feelings of having a vice grip on your head. The band can be adjusted to accommodate the size of your head. Eventually I think the user will get used to it but best if you tried on at the store. Gamers do expect sturdy pair of headset and not the wimpy (and fragile) ones for the others—just remember that before you buy it.

An improvement over the Corsair Void Pro

UNBOXING, AND INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: Once again, typical environmentally-friendly packaging from Corsair. While some companies are getting better at this, and others are still trying to figure out how to do it, Corsair has, essentially, “mastered” it. As for the headset, itself, it appears quite sturdy, and, visually, an improvement over the previous Void Pro. COMFORT & EASE OF OPERATION: I bought the Void Pro…and, less than a week later, I returned it. Simply-put, it was uncomfortable…EXTREMELY uncomfortable. If you want your head to feel like a squeezed turnip, then buy the (outgoing) Void Pro. On the other hand, if you want a really good-sounding headset, withy RGB lighting, is wireless…and is comfortable (at least more-comfortable than the Void Pro was)…then the new Void Elite Wireless will fit (pun intended) you…as long as you don’t have a big head (literally, not figuratively). SOUND QUALITY: For those not aware, when it comes to computer headsets, 7.1 audio is NOT truly 7.1 audio…it is stereo audio, with lots of processing, to simulate (or attempt top simulate) “surround sound). Some software does a decent job at this, while some create a more realistic effect, and then there are those that do an outstanding job. Well, the Void Elite Wireless doesn’t fall into that last category…but, it does, at least, fall into the middle one, albeit at the lower-end of the middle catagory. Starting with the frequency response, the Void Elite has definitely improved the sound quality over the previous Void Pro. For the price, this could be the best wireless (simulated) 7.1 gaming headset on the market. Notice I said, “for the price”…that is because there are better-sounding headsets, and there are headsets that create a more-realistic surround-sound effect, but, they also cost more…considerably more, in certain cases. Just briefly touching on the mic, the mic included with the Void Elite is probably the best built-in mic I’ve come across. THE GOOD: • Fairly comfortable (better than the Void Pro, which these will replace) • Extremely-good stereo sound quality • Great battery life (16hrs)…when the LEDs are off • Price THE BAD: • A bit on the heavy side (those with “weak” necks should probably avoid wireless headsets) • Surround-sound isn’t all that good…but, better than some others • While the fit is outstanding for those with smaller heads, and very good for those with “average” heads, those with larger heads might fit it becoming uncomfortable during extended gaming sessions (but, still an improvement over the Void Pro) THE UGLY: • Nothing I can think of FINAL VERDICT: Overall stereo sound is very good…better than others in the same price range, and better than the original Void Pro. Unfortunately, the surround-sound isn’t as good. While the headband design is improved, it could still be a problem for some. For the price, it is one of the best wireless gaming headsets, and I can recommend it. Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.
