3 months in and problems have started.
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this after a lot of consideration because I had tons of issues with my old headset (Logitech g933). At first I had no issues, things worked well enough. Then my headset randomly started turning off while i was using it. As in - in the middle of talking to someone the headset would just turn off (at reasonably full battery). I had the auto shut off option disabled in the iCue settings already so there was no reason for my headset to just shut off. I forced an update on it, fought to get the headset to reconnect to my pc (I would pair it with the dongle and my pc would still not be connected to it, iCue would say not connected). That seemed to have abated the issue. Newest issue is the headset won't charge properly. I will leave it plugged in after gaming overnight and the next day it will be completely dead with 0 charge. I started making sure it was "charging" in iCue before leaving it. Sure enough, 0 charge. I replaced the cable. Problem persisted. I just forced another update after coming home from work to finding the headset dead again. Decided to write a review. I would not suggest purchasing this headset.

Good build quality, lousey dongle, meh sound
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PROS: I do like the build quality of these. They are a bit heavy, but that is due to the metal, not plastic, swivel joints. They are robust, and dont see those ever breaking. The fit is good, and the mic is good. CONS: The audio quality is lacking - the bass is muddy, the higs are meh, and profiles only help so much. My BIG gripe is the crap dongle they give you. Old school full-size USB -A stick, and the range is aweful - I can walk away maybe 6 feet if using it on a Mac Mini, and maybe 10 feet away on a windows machine on a USB 3 port. Maybe I got unlucky, not sure if others have this issue, but I should be able to walk to my fridge without it cutting out. No other headset has had this short of a range in the years I have been using them.

Great headset, excellent software
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Corsair Void RGB Elite gaming headset is Corsair current entrant in the closed back mid-range gaming headset market. If that previous sentence isn’t enough to make your head spin, realize it’s a tight market in the gaming world, and we’ve never had more choices than now. So given that statement, where does the Void RGB Elite fit in the market? Pretty high up the list in my opinion. Headsets are tricky to review, as their primary purpose is to reproduce sound, which is mostly a subjective experience. That said let’s talk about audio quality before moving any further. The Void RGB Elite is decidedly mid-range, but that is ok. The sound itself is slightly bass heavy on flat, but not overtly so. Mids can struggle a bit, but the EQs in the Corsair iCue software can help tremendously. Bass kicks in precisely at 20Hz, and is vibrant. Highs can be a bit soft, but again the EQ can help bring a bit more ‘brightness’ if desired. Overall the drivers are capable, offering above average, but not outstanding sound. EDM feels less lively, and classics like Pink Floyd Money don’t sound as crisp as more pricey sets. The device shows up as having 8 channels, and with the surround sound setting turned on, the spatial simulation is enough to really feel the difference in front vs surround channels. Turning off the 7.1 simulation is desirable for music (save maybe live recordings), as the sound stage feels distant, and not in a good way. Luckily this is a button press away in iCue. Speaking of buttons, there are a small, but very functional set of controls on-board. There is a volume rocker which functions well (if not the smoothest action). When pressed in, it will cycle between on-board customizable EQ settings. Again, Corsair does an excellent job integrating the EQs in software with a 10 band equalizer. On the side you find the power button and the mic mute button. I had a hard time finding these buttons at first, but after a few tries and using the various plastic textures I had system down. Build quality is one place that Corsair made sure to focus on. So many cheap and expensive headsets crack right around the yokes. I had 2 logitech headsets that needed to be taped back together in less than a year. Luckily Corsair has made the movable parts from heavy aluminium, which feels premium and adds durability. The plastic pieces feel solid and overall rigidity is high. The weight of the headset is a bit more than what I’d like to see, but in no way is it fatiguing. It is on the bulky side as well, but not to an extreme. The materials used in the ear cups are comfortable for long periods. After about 4 hours of gaming, I feel like it's time to remove them, but I’m in no true discomfort. Battery life is pretty good. Realistic loads I’d place about 10% an hour, so 10 hours should be achievable. Unless your job is professional streaming, the battery should last more than enough per gaming session. Standby seems decent, so weekend gaming warriors will find charging to not be too much of a chore. The auto-shutdown feature appears to monitor for sound to improve battery life. This feature needs a bit of work, as its kicked in during a gaming session or while listening to music. It warns first, so you can cancel it by hitting a button on the headset to keep things alive. It’s defeatible, so I simply turned it off, as I’m pretty religious about turned the headset off after I’m done. Another defeatible feature that I actually enjoy is the voice prompts. As mentioned previously, the auto-shutdown is announced by a voice saying “Auto-shutdown initiated”. The same applies to turning surround on/off, microphone on/off, and power on/off. You can disable the voice prompts, but I found them helpful and a nice reassurance things were correctly operating. Corsair makes it super easy to adjust sidetone levels so you can hear your microphone input. This is helpful, because the mic is playing what other noises it hears, including your surroundings. It plays back at an independent volume set in iCue. The separate adjustment and inclusion of this feature is important in streaming, so it's nice to see it so integrated in the software. Another nice integration into iCue is the lighting. Of course what is a gaming peripheral without RGB? The lighting is basic, and single zone, but it does sync with the rest of your Corsair equipment. Corsair does lighting well, and the iCue setup is one of the best in the business. The microphone’s sound quality is excellent. It is ‘discord certified’ for whatever that means. Honestly for streaming or game chat, this is a great setup. Recordings had very little background noise, and were clear, if not dynamic. Overall the Corsair Void RGB Elite offers excellent build quality, good sound improved by a competent EQ implementation, amazing tweakibility, and solid mic. At the price point there really isn’t anything to complain about. If you’re already invested in the Corsair ecosystem, look no further. The combination of wireless, lighting, sound, and software make this a winning combination!

By far the worst headphones I have ever bought
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's built out of extraordinarily cheap plastic with software that only plays annoying beeping sounds everytime you turn on the mic. The battery barely lasts 4 hours and if you forget to charge it over night, even if it was left at a full charge before hand, it'll be dead in the morning. The sound is tinny and feels stripped of anything above vocals or below an acoustic guitar. Every time I pick these up it feels like they are about to fall apart. They still use micro usb in 2022, despite everything else I own being USB C. The earcups are a gritty fabric that actively hurt the side of my head, and the clamp force is way too tight, yet they isolate no sound at all. They're cheap, but the price says otherwise. I'm already past the return window, but I'd return these at $30, let alone $100.
