this are amazing for music, both the normal kind and the 6D/8D stuff on YouTube, hell they even work great for music on my phone with a C to A adaptor, but in games they suck. I've tried them in several different games now, Destiny 2, Halo MCC, Cyberpunk 2077, Runescape 3, and the problem is the same every time. the game audio is muffled. gun shots aren't clear, explosions are dampened, I cant hear my own footsteps let alone the npc's, the only this that can be head is NPC voice. ive tried every preset and tried turning them all off and none of that helped. not even windows sonic helped. I have headphones for music, I needed these for games. on and the battery life is the worse. full charge only lasts about 5 hours, and thats with RGB off.

The Corsair Void RGB Elite Wireless headset is almost self explanatory. It's wireless, supporting a simulated 7.1 channel surround sound (I say simulated because there's only two speakers) with RGB LED features to match your gaming keyboard. I'm not sure what the Elite conveys - perhaps the jam packed features of the headset. I'll start as usual with looks. The headset looks good and is on the large side. With my head and ears, this fit pretty well though I can see it being a bit of a problem for smaller people. Unfortunately, this is not a case where there's a disconnect between size and weight. This does feel weighty and while ok for wearing for a couple hours, I could feel that over a longer session, it will get uncomfortable. Which is a bit of a catch-22 because the headset is rated for up to 16 hours of battery life. So, you won't wear it continuously for that long, but it's nice that you could use it several days in a row without having to plug in to charge. The boom mic doesn't intrude in one's face and is onmidirectional. I'm not quite sure why, given that one's mouth is always in the same place relative to the mic. Listening to the mic, it does a good job recording though it seems like there was a lot more bass than what was in reality. Trying out the headset, one figures out a couple of the "elite" features. One is flipping the boom up - that auto mutes the microphone. The other is by pressing and hold on the mic button, you can actually pipe what the mic is recording to the headset. So you can use it in monitor mode and hear what it's picking up. The wireless feature isn't bluetooth or wifi. It's a 2.4Ghz connection that requires the included USB dongle. After plugging that in and installing Corsair's iCUE software, you can further customize the behavior of the heatset. You can switch on surround sound, mess around with equalizer settings, and configure the lighting effects. Note, running the RGB lights will cut into your battery runtime. Connected over wireless, I got about 35-45 feet of range line of sight between me and the laptop. When I moved things to my more cluttered basement, range dropped to almost half depending on the walls, columns, and chairs between me and the laptop. That said, you're usually using this pretty close to your gaming rig, so the wireless range is only a concern for quick rest stops where you still want to keep an ear on action. Given the weight, I was not tempted to use this for general media listening. The sound from this headset is great. I was blown away by the stereo sound and the detail that I could hear in games. Music and Hulu were also a pleasure to listen to with this headset. I started to reconsider whether I'd be willing to use this for some general media when I want to watch a show without waking the rest of the house. Firing up one of my favorite shows that really exercises surrounds sound (The Expanse), I switched the headset to surround mode. . .and well, this is mixed. On the one hand, the virtual surround actually worked. But, the sound quality felt worse than on stereo. It was like when I had to hunt around the various mode on my audio receiver to find the one that decoded best - it just felt really dim or muted with some channels and didn't really combine very well. Unlike my audio receiver, there's only one multi-channel mode here so not real option to explore different decoding mechanisms. Full disclosure, I receive this for free to do my review. It had enough features that I liked but I was leaning towards a 3 star rating due to the relative quality of the recorded mic, surround sound and weight. But seeing that this is only around $100 puts the quality in quite good perspective compared to my sense of what makes for a great gaming headset. So, these caveats are still here, but for a $100 headset, this boosts my rating to 4 stars.
