Great hard drive for Apple Mac and iPad devices
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The CRUCIAL 2TB X9 PRO FOR MAC PORTABLE SSD is a nice hard drive for my Apple MacBook and iPad devices. The hard drive comes well packaged and setup is extremely easy. It’s basically Plug and Play. The hard drive has preinstalled URL links to websites. One of them is a link to Adobe Creative Cloud All-Apps one month trial plan. Thee are also links to few more apps and support. The footprint of the hard drive is much smaller than I anticipated. I thought it would be about the same size as my Samsung portable drive, but the overall footprint is much smaller. However, I did notice that it’s slightly thicker than my Samsung drive. I wasn’t sure if the hard drive had an LED light that would show har drive activity because I was not able to find an LED light by just looking at it. Once I used the hard drive for the first time, I noticed that the LED light is actually recessed in the lanyard look. It’s a white LED light that is fairly bright, allowing you to clearly see when the hard drive is powered up. It comes with a USB-C cable, but it’s a lot shorter than USB-C cables that came with other portable drives I’ve used. I connected the hard drive to my iPad Pro that’s mounted on a Magic Keyboard. I was able to lay the hard drive on my desk and put it into my iPad. I noticed the cable was just able to plug into the side of my iPad. The hard drive was not laying down flat initially, but I had to bend the cable just slightly. I have to do this quite often when connecting it to my iPad Pro. It would have been nice if the included USB-C cable was just a tad longer. The read and write speeds are on par with other portable hard drives I have. The read write speeds are faster if formatted and used on Windows devices. For use on my Mac and iPad devices, it works perfectly fine. With the new iPhone 15 models that have the USB-C port, they can be used with this hard drive as well. Overall, I’m impressed with the form factor and features this hard drive has to offer.

So much storage in such a small package
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My thanks to the Best Buy Tech Insiders Network for sending me this Crucial X9 Pro 2TB Portable SSD to review. This drive is small, really small - 2" x 2.5". It's amazing that it can fit 2Tb of data into a package so small. It will be great to be able to backup all my data from my MacBook Pro as well as carrying my entire photo collection, 100's of movies, audio books, etc. I like being able to keep a lot of things with me wherever I go but there is only so much space on a MacBook. The transfer rate is way faster than other SSD's, flash drives and hard drives that I own. I just transferred a 10GB file from my Mac Studio to the Crucial SSD in 58 Seconds. I then transferred the same file back to the Mac Studio and it took only 13 seconds. Wow! It's amazing how fast this drive is. The drive comes with a 9" USB-C to USB-C cable and there is a hole at one corner of the drive to put it on a keyring, which is great since I plan to carry this drive with me to work all the time and not lose it. On the drive there are links to the Crucial website for more information. Considering the drive is called the X9 Pro for Mac, when you go to the site, the Storage Executive program is Windows only. Looking on the website for Macintosh info (not that I need any) I found that the site is showing info for the El Capitan OS that came out in 2015 and there have been 8 OS upgrades since then. Hey Crucial! Update your website it looks like you aren't giving us Mac users any love. Included with your purchase you get 30 days of Adobe Creative Cloud access, but I already have a Creative Cloud account from work. All in all, this is one incredible drive and worth carrying around with you wherever you go.

Not Entirely Mac OS Compatible!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this as a backup drive for my MacBook. It was easy to set up and fast, small, and very portable. I ran about a dozen backups on it. BUT: last week it wouldn't mount. Bestbuy's tech support turned me over to Crucial's tech support. I tried all the fixes they suggested except for the final one that required me to use Windows to reset the firmware on the drive. I don't have access to Windows, so this solution is not available to me. So the bottom line appears to be that you can use this drive on a Mac but it's not 100% compatible. Also, pro tip: be sure to save the packaging OR to take a photo of it because the serial number is not printed on the drive itself. Crucial requires a serial number if you want to return the drive under warranty.
