I noticed the chemical smell when i unpacked the unit (i think it is a battery giving out odor) but hoped it would dissipate over a couple of weeks. Not so, still very noticeable, will return. I have another unit just like this that I bought a year ago and that one was fine. So, if the smell bothers you out of the box, it is not going to get better.
