I can charge the battery when it is off, but at soon as I turn it on and it is plugged in it says it is on battery backed.

Lead acid batteries have an average life of 3-5 years and can behave unexpectedly if battery levels are low. How long have you had this unit for? I tried a smaller unit the 1000 and ran a stress test and it shut down. This unit here the 1500 one stood strong. Didnt shut down which is great hopefully ill never have to use it for what it’s intended for but atleast i know im protected.

I replaced the batteries for the first time this week. 6 years without replacing batteries is excellent since the average is 3 to 5 years. $89 later I'm back up and running and replacement could not be any easier. I cannot recommend this Sine Wave UPS enough. 10 out of 5 stars

I'm satisfied with how quickly it hooked up and hope it does its job for a long time.
