When we had lightning storm and power failure last week, my computer was protected and I felt very good about it. At least I didn't have to worry my computer would be "fried" again. Glad I bought it.

It's a decent UPS for small things. I currently use it to help my plasma TV deal with minor brownouts in our home.

I needed a backup power supply for my cable modem, wireless router & Ethernet switch. This product was the lowest cost option, yet provides backup if power is lost.

Perfect for keeping your computer up when the power goes out for a short time. Not a long term solution, but allows you to shut down gracefully.

I being buying this devices for the last 8 months (4 units) to prevent damage to a DVR and the 19" screen is with. I don't have complains so far. My only concern is they say it is a battery backup inside but for the weight this unit have looks like it is not battery back up. Again at this point for what i used it so far they are good.

    Incomplete product description

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this product because I had to and it was the least expensive. For ~$47 it satisfied a rqmt that I have a back-up power supply for non-life support medical equipment. I used it to Skype on my laptop away from roommates to prevent disturbing them at 3AM to preserve my short laptop battery life. My less-than-stellar review concerns the product description. The specs provide Volt-Amp rating, size, weight, number of outlets, etc. I have no idea how to convert a 425VA rating to "approximately how long" it would power a generic piece of equipment like a laptop or desktop computer. If the description would give an approximate battery lifespan based on a current 15" laptop, wireless antenna on, no DVD/CD player active, monitor at full brightness I could choose a product more aligned to my needs. I'd have been satisfied with an estimate variance of 20% which is huge by industry standards.

    Died after one year

I thought I had a good deal on reliability, but then the power went out and so did my computer. That was the only way I knew the UPS was dead. Took it apart thinking it was the battery, but the battery was fine. As an electronic technician I can tell you this was built using 1970's technology. Surprised it lasted so long (one year). Jumpers soldered on the board (indicating a missed trace during design), some traces badly soldered, power strip so cheap I'm surprised it got a UL certification. This was a true piece of junk. This time I got a 550 APC for $20 more hoping it will last longer. I have another Cyperpower on my wife's iMac and now I'm worried.

    Occasionally shuts down power

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

While this unit has given me a few minutes of continuing power on the occasionally power outage, it has also shut down power to the computer on more than one occasion when the power has not even gone out. I've been sitting at my computer with the lights and other appliances on which are not connected to this ups, heard a click and watched my computer go dark, without power.

    Good for low end appliances!

Off the bat the price was great! But when I got it home and plugged it in and let it charge then started to plug in my router and laptop charger... it would beep and go into battery mode every several minutes. So i put the laptop charger on another outlet and now it works fine... but this thing can't hold too many devices on it without going into battery mode because it can't handle the wattage. I also noticed that there is no easy was to change the battery when it dies a year from now. With APC UPS' they have an easy slideout panel on the bottom with easy access to the battery. I was also dissappointed to only have 3 outlets on battery backup. The other 3 are surge only.

    Poor product with short lifespan

I purchased a cyberpower power management unit for my home computer system about 10 months ago to protect against power surges and provide a few minutes of battery backup in case of a power outage in my home office. Over the years I've come to expect less from a product than what's advertised on the box so I never expected this to actually power my system and it's peripherals for a full 30 minutes. However, I also didn't expect this device to completely shut down without warning every time there's a power dip or hiccup! It's worked properly exactly twice, where I was able to take two minutes and shut down the computer in the event of a power loss, running off the stored charge in this unit. Every other instance of a less-than-perfect power situation (not even a power loss mind you) this unit simply shuts down, freezes up, and beeps steadily until I crawl under the desk and cycle the power button. This unit is NOT to be trusted, especially as a main power mgt setup. It lasted barely two months before becoming a rather heavy extension cord awaiting disposal. I've been meaning to purchase a new and proper unit for my small home office for months now but it's been hectic and I keep forgetting about this issue until a sudden loss of work. Since this just happened again, I'm writing this review and heading out to get a real UPC! Good luck to all who roll the dice with this thing. No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

    Anemic

Does not supply enough power for my desktop PC. Admittedly, my PC is AMD powered (lots of fans!) with 3 Hard Disk Drives and two LCD monitors. The annoying steady beep should be replaced with Scotty saying, "I'm givin' ya all she's got, Cap'an" Also, there's no connection to the PC to tell it to shut down on low battery during a power outage. If I had caught that in the store, I would have passed it over right there. Had to buy the next larger one to get the features I need/want. Rather than return this one, however, I'll just use it for my TiVo box.

I prefer APC when it comes to UPS', but I couldn't pass up the sale price on this. I got a couple for protecting my HDTV, and keeping routers/switches and vonage boxes online. Perfect for that.

    Not worth the money

We bought this product in July 2009 and seven months later we will have to buy a new back-up system because this one fails a lot, practically every day. We have one laptop and one desktop connected. The system cannot handle these two things. When we disconnect everything and try and restart and with nothing connected the product continues to beep. We are now disconnecting it every night after several nights of having to get up and unplug everything. It is obviously not worth the low price.
