Well rounded desktop UPS
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've used UPSs both in desktop forms and in server rooms for many years so I got to understand a bit what to look for in an UPS and to me this covers it all. - 1500VA is on the higher end for desktop UPS. These are among the ones with higher capacity. It supports up to 900W for battery backup. - AVR: Automatic Voltage Regulation. If the power gets too low or too high (In volts), the UPS will adjust to a safe operating range without having to use the battery. - Simulated Sine Wave: This is the AC output from the inverter. This works with desktop computers that have amore sensitive switching power supply. - Provides 5 battery/surge protection outlets and 5 that are surge protected only. This is a common setup in this type of UPS. Outlets are well spaced out and one of each are separated farther away to accommodate power bricks. - Batteries are fairly common 12V 9AH sealed lead-acid. The batteries are very simple to replace, among the easiest I've seen in this type of UPS. There are two simple screws on one side that hold the cover, which slides easily after pressing a tab. - It also has one USB and one USB-C ports in the front to charge devices without using an additional power adapter. These are limited to 4 Amps though. - Easy to read display. - Useful (and optional) software. Display: The display is bright and can it defaults to turn off after a few seconds. Pressing the display button turns it on and the same display button rotates different metrics. Holding the display button enters into configuration mode (It sets low and high values for AVR, beeper, etc). The display is easier to read than the monochrome LCD displays in other UPSs. It's very useful to see the input and output voltage, time remaining on battery and I particularly like to see how many watts the computer and monitor are drawing. Software: Like other higher end UPSs, this comes with an USB port that connects to the computer. I connected it to the docking station on my laptop. Without installing any driver, Windows 10 recognizes it as a second battery, but the charge indicator remains zero. I noticed something similar with other brand UPS I have on another desk. Then I connected a MacBook instead to the same docking station and this time macOS accurately displays the charge remaining on the UPS without any driver. So on my gaming windows laptop I then downloaded the personal software from CyberPower Systems web site and it's a nice and simple application that displays everything correctly, and allows to configure all the functions on the UPS. To my surprise, the same software is also available on macOS and they also provide a command-line version for Linux, which is available in Debian, RPM and tar formats. It makes sense to provide decent software since this company also provides data center solutions. CyberPower is an American company. The UPS is assembled in Philippines. Overall I'm very pleased with this. I wish the USB-C connector provided higher watts to run a laptop or fast charge a phone without another power adapter, but other than that It seems just right with AVR and sine-wave output on a 900W system being the key features. Display is also nice.

Great Overall Option for UPS
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cyberpower has released their next generation of the 1500VA UPS device. They remain dependable as the previous versions but have a little more flair. The box includes the UPS, a USB-A--to--USB-B cable, and paperwork. Manufacturer's warranty is 3 years. Disclaimer: I already have multiple Cyberpower UPS's in my home including 2 of these previous generation 1500VA's, 4 of the Cyberpower 1350VA's, and 2 smaller ones. PROS: --------- * This battery is solid & dependable. You don't have to use it for computers only though that is certainly an option and selling point. You can use it for other devices such as TVs, modems, surveillance NVRs/DVRs, LED lamps, and other like items. Keep in mind that with more moving parts and "lighting" in general, the battery will dissipate quicker. * BATTERY LIFE: To put it in perspective, I have my 85" Samsung TV plugged into this UPS alongside a Yamaha amplifier, digital clock, U-Verse standard set top box, and an 8-port Netgear ethernet switch. UPTIME when the power went out was approximately 30 minutes - and that's with an 85" screen being constantly on. Batteries aren't meant for long-term power, but for quick glitches or short term power outages, this thing works great. For something as basic as an internet router/modem, it will stay on for hours. * One of the most glaring features this UPS has over the old gen is the COLOR display. The last gen was monochrome which doesn't really affect the performance of the battery. The new colors are fine, but ultimately how the battery performs during downtime is the main priority. * Old gen provided 2 USB ports... they have now swapped out one of the USB ports for a USB-C port. That's a very nice change/upgrade. * The big DISPLAY button on the front of the unit allows the user to see the status of the battery and will scroll through multiple readings depending on information needed. It can, for instance, show the load of the battery at any given moment, and based on that load, estimate how much time is left on the battery if the load remains constant. * There are plenty of plug outlets on the back. 10 total plugs, 2 of which are for wide transformers. Each side has 5 plugs with one side being surge only and the other 5 plugs being both surge protection AND battery backup. I typically only use the battery backup side. CONS: --------- * The ALARM on this 1500VA is default set to ON. So if you take this UPS out of the box and plug it in and power it on, if the power goes out, it will constantly beep every few seconds until it's dead (or until the power comes back on). The only way to turn off the alarm beep is to download the Cyberpower program online, plug in the USB cable provided, to a PC, and manually go into the ALARM settings and UNcheck the boxes needed to turn off all audible alarms/notifications. Then and only then will the UPS not beep when the power goes off. Also, once the alarm has been turned off, the speaker icon on the front of the display will now show an X through it to show it is now silenced. I have done this for every UPS I have - because in my case, I don't want the battery beeping all night long while I'm sleeping if the power goes out. I just wish this was default to OFF out of the box. OTHER OBSERVATIONS: ------------------------------------ * The USB charging ports on the front of the panel is 4.0 amps, sufficient for most devices. * Cyberpower does insure connected equipment up to $500k should your equipment get fried from lightning or other event. I have never had this happen before so I'm not sure how this is claimed or proven. This process is on the Cyberpower website. * There are also plugs on the back to allow for ethernet and coax, but I have never used or needed those protections. * Note the plug position of the main power cord in one of my pictures. The power cord is angled at 5-o'clock. If you plug in the upper plug, this may block the bottom plug from being able to be used. CONCLUSION: ============ Overall, this is a very solid UPS unit by Cyberpower. Already having multiple Cyberpower UPS's in my home, I can vouch for this unit too - and it's just as solid as the others. The color display is a nice touch, but the replacement of one USB for a USB-C is a bigger add. The default "alarm ON" issue can be worked around easily, but for those that want a UPS to simply plug-and-play for a product other than a PC, that might be a nuisance once the power goes out. All-in-all, one of the most dependable UPS's available with plenty of information available on the display for the common user. I'd buy again in a heartbeat and further add to my collection. Great job, Cyberpower!

Plenty of battery to keep you going
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We all have things that need power to stay flowing during ‘blips’ - router, wifi, smart bridges. I trust this CyberPower 1500VA to protect some pretty important-to-me computers and peripherals. TL;DR for my frequent readers and details below. Good: Color Screen Runtime Protection More accurate LCD readings USB Fast Charging Bad: Not enough spaced out ports on rear Error code documentation Meh: LCD usage / output screen doesn’t account for USB charging A UPS traditionally does pack some weight and especially so when you get into the 1500VA capability, I didn’t expect anything otherwise. Weighing in at roughly 25 lbs., it has a relatively small footprint, which is consistent with the other CyberPower UPS’ - of which I also own an older 1350VA model which has done fairly well over the years. In preparation for this, I looked at how many ‘spaced out’ ports it has and it only has 1 for each surge/battery & surge (totaling two). Sad face. Knowing this, I picked up some extenders online so I could take advantage of all the ports I needed regardless of plug type. It’s hurricane season, so lightning and power ‘blips’ happen quite frequently and at large quantities so it’s a perfect time to get a new UPS to protect my pretty high-end computing equipment. Unpacking this monster wasn’t all that difficult but it seems like it’s more than 25 lbs. Plugging it into the wall & then booting it up showed me that it was at 100% battery already and that’s amazing! Cycling through the menus, I found that a max runtime of 450 minutes on empty was the estimate. On my old 1350VA, an empty runtime was 1000 minutes, so it would appear that some changes were made to provide a more accurate capacity runtime. On the front of the unit is both a USB-A & USB-C charging port! Once I saw that, I looked around and found that my iPad Air 5 was about 75% charged, so I grabbed a USB-C to C charging cable and plugged it in and it started charging. Oddly enough, none of the screens indicated that it was doing any work whatsoever. Moving it over to my S22 Ultra, the same - no indication of output, however I did see ‘fast charging’ appear on the screen - so woohoo! The day after I moved all of my devices to this from the old one (noted above), I had a few close lightning strikes that caused the UPS to go into protection mode. “Click, clack, buzz” went the unit and the screen illuminated to confirm that something was afoot with the power. Looking through the menu, I found an Error 2 - which seems to mean “charging error” according to the included paperwork and that didn’t sit right. In doing some research on this (going to CyberPower's website), it seems to mean “AC power low” which makes more sense following an electrical strike, as a charging error might lead me to believe that there’s something immediately wrong with the unit. With the change in power state corresponding to a quick flash of lightning and an immediate huge boom, none of my devices dropped and the battery function saved the main components that keep the Internet running for the household. Recommended!

Posted .These units have a fault listing in the menu that tallies up the number of times the UPS experiences an outage or power issue that it needs to use either voltage regulation or battery power to keep consistent output to the devices connected to the Battery+Surge outlets. This may be the indication you found when scrolling through the menu, if the UPS gives a Fault or Error code, you do not need to scroll through the menu to find it, it will typically take over the portion of the screen that typically shows input voltage, and would give out a long unending beep. Cheaper and nicer than the APC equivalent unit
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the fact that this is slightly smaller than the APC unit I was going to buy. So far it was super easy to set up the way I wanted it and I like the display on the unit much better than what APC shows. So far it's been humming away like a champ. Hopefully it's a long time before my next power failure occurs.

Solid battery backup
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the second one I've purchased from Best Buy. The first one was several years ago, had two USB-A ports on the front rather than the USB-A/USB-C combo of this one. That one ran 24/7 for 8 years+ before it died. Hence the reason I bought the same one to replace it. My office likes to buy the smaller units, half the available power at a third of the price. But, they wind up replacing them every year or two. I mostly work out of my home office, and since I live in Florida (lightning capital of the world), I wanted a decent battery backup. This fit the bill and then some. Enough load capability to run my main PC, a small personal server, a backup USB drive, and a single monitor with plenty of time to shut down the systems if it should ever get to that point. And it was far more cost effective than the smaller power strip style units, considering it lasted years beyond the ones I've had experience with.

Good backup for short power brownous
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my forth LX1500, not because I had any problems with the first three and needed to replace any, but I now have four different systems in different areas of the house that have equipment that needs to run 24/7. The forth UPS was just added because I needed to provide backup for some new electronic gear I had to add in another location. I live out in the back woods on a dirt road with unreliable commercial power. I have a backup generator but it takes a short while to kick in and switch from the commercial mains to the backup generator. The UPS's keep everything on line long enough for the switch over to occur, and also when the commercial power return so everything continues running.
