backups do the job
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My phone lines, home and business, the internet, and my cordless phones stay active during a power failure. I can also use my laptop computer during these power failures. I'm glad I got them.

So far, so good...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No issues with the unit so far. Run much cooler than my old ones. States that it's more energy efficient, too. Liked the first one so much, I bought a second one.

Works fine, bad case design
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had this for a week, works fine, but while removing it from the box, apparently I tugged on it a little too hard, and the strain relief on the cord pulled against the plastic case. Case cracked, and is stuck open with a 1/4-inch gap on the lower "surge only" side, with the network circuit board keeping it from closing. I'm not a gorilla, just pulled it out of the box from the top, and tugged slightly when it hung up. A strain relief that isn't supported by the case is useless, so wanted to let others know not to push or pull firmly on this item while opening or moving it around, as it may break under light stress, and with a little bad luck, potentially become a fire hazard. This isn't BB's fault, so I won't be returning it. It works fine for my needs, but the fragility of the case is something you should keep in mind while using this item.

Poor product with short lifespan
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this unit for my home computer system about 10 months ago to protect against power surges and provide a few minutes of battery backup in case of a power outage in my home office. Over the years I've come to expect less from a product than what's advertised on the box so I never expected this to actually power my system and it's peripherals for a full 30 minutes. However, I also didn't expect this device to completely shut down without warning every time there's a power dip or hiccup! It's worked properly exactly twice, where I was able to take two minutes and shut down the computer in the event of a power loss, running off the stored charge in this unit. Every other instance of a less-than-perfect power situation (not even a power loss mind you) this unit simply shuts down, freezes up, and beeps steadily until I crawl under the desk and cycle the power button. This unit is NOT to be trusted, especially as a main power mgt setup. It lasted barely two months before becoming a rather heavy extension cord awaiting disposal. I've been meaning to purchase a new and proper unit for my small home office for months now but it's been hectic and I keep forgetting about this issue until a sudden loss of work. Since this just happened again, I'm writing this review and heading out to get a real UPC! Good luck to all who roll the dice with this thing.

Check package contents before leaving store
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased CyberPower 858va 450 watts Battery Backup on 01/01/2012. I did not get around to opening the box and examine the contents until today, much to my surprise the box contained only the battery pack unit, No Software, No USB or Serial cable, no manuals or any type documentation.

not working
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just bought this today. Came home and plugged it in to the wall. Tried to turn it on but nothing happens. As long as I hold the button the led is green. As soon as I release the button the led goes blank. I tried to push it hard. push it quick push it long. If i push it long it does beep once and it sounds like something is switching inside but as soon as i release the button led goes out. Checked manual. It does not state how to turn it on. Just turn it on. Hold it? don't hold it? press it twice? I did try everything but it does not stay on. Faulty wire led is not on. also checked the red reset button. its all good. Manual clearly states that i can use this ups as soon as I plug it in. I don't have to charge it before use.
