Tons of fun but buy the warranty. Keep breaking the drive gear but BB warranty is great.

Serious machinery - not a toy for an 8 year old.

I've been an RC fan for quite some years. The bulk of my purchases have been from Tamiya, a recognized producer of high end r/c products. I've also purchased a few lower end vehicles in the sub $100 range, and to a one, they've all been disappointments. I'd put the Cyclone right up there with a similar Tamiya product. First off, it's ready to run out of the box - just make the battery connection. Typical 2 clip style to change/charge the battery. The fact they include a spare battery in the package price is a definite plus and the Nickel Metal Hydrides are a better product than the typical NiCads. Having Lithiums instead would be an over the top addition, but I can understand the omission as the batteries alone would've been over $100. This thing is a rocket! Faster than a dog chasing a squirrel! That comes with a caveat though - I wouldn't recommend this for a sub-10 or 12 year old - at the claimed 20 mph speed, it can do some damage in the hands of the irresponsible. Especially since it carries some weight. The heft of it speaks to the quality build. The oil filled adjustable shocks, sealed electronics, and the better than average wheel/tire combo show this to be a serious machine. It's also good that replacement parts and upgrades are readily available. If you have a full service hobby store in the area, most likely in stock; if not, the company supplies mail order. One thing i didn't like - I saw a review that stated that the pinion gear was metal, but the spur gear it drives was plastic. I didn't take it apart to see, but the drive mechanism should be all metal. Luckily, a bronze spur gear is available for the unit; next time I go to the hobby shop that will be my first upgrade. I was skeptical at first, but have to say I was pretty surprised at the overall build & performance of the vehicle given the price point. I'll be on the lookout for more Redcat products in the future.

    Great RC System

I've only ever owned 1 other RC car so I'm far from an expert on the types and abilities of today's cars but I do know we had a blast with this one. First off the system comes with 2 battery packs (7.2V NiMH) which in of itself is a nice bonus. After fully charging one of the batteries (The one that is in car when packaged) we took it out and ran it for a good 1/2 hour while taking turns doing jumps on with a make shift ramp as well as an obstacle course. This car is FAST! :) Took a bit to get used to how fast the car was yet the sound wasn't very loud at all so we knew we wouldn't bother a neighbor lol It has a trim setting on controller to adjust steering but it was fine for us at where it was set. On a flat surface it runs great and really the only time it had an issue was over our yard but that was only due to grass being a tad high PLUS wet leaves we've yet raked. In back yard where grass rarely grows high it did slip some but still had plenty of get up and go. The car body easily pops off to get to battery after removing 4 clips. There is a small strip of plastic , also held with a clip, that holds down the battery. The wires to plug in the battery to car are right there and can easily be plugged together (and can only be plugged in 1 way) without removing body. To charge, you plug battery (recommended to remove battery from car first) into the included charger and then turn on charger. 2 lights: 1 green showing charger on and another red (if battery can be charged). Once the red turns green you are good to go. Again it's nice having a spare batter ready for use. Overall it was a nice car and we really enjoyed it.

Wow, this is a huge step up from the cheaper remote control vehicles out there, and I mean a HUGE step up. The package is complete with an extra battery, which is really nice, charger, remote, stickers, 4 AAA batteries, and manual. Pretty much everything to get you going. Then batteries had enough of a charger to get a good 5 minute run out of them for testing and finding out the dog now has a new toy to chase instead of squirrels :) . I’m really surprised how much power this has, it a lot faster than I expected too and in a straight away, getting good traction our medium sized dog cannot catch it, but she’s having fun trying. This is rated for 14 and over and I believe they are right, with the speed this achieves and the power it has a child could easily injure themselves. I’ve use remote racing vehicles in the past, maybe a good 30 years ago “yep I’m old” and the only ones that came close to this were the custom racing vehicles and they were a lot more expensive than this one to get started with. So if you want something that’s a blast drive around I’m sure you’ll have some fun with this one.

    Fantastic Car!

This is really a great RC car! Easy to use right out of the box & well built. The car has a quality and features usually only found on more expensive cars. The remote is easy to use as well. There are some nice features including the oil filled shocks, replaceable parts (very important with any RC) and the steering trim on the remote. Response from the remote is accurate and fast. The rated speed is over 20mph! Battery life is good but keep a spare ready to go. Battery life on any remote vehicle (cars, boats, drones, ect...) is really never great due to the small motors being very power hungry. Fortunately, an extra battery is included in the package. A higher capacity battery can be purchased as well. All in all, this is a great remote controlled car for anyone from a beginner to an advanced user.

    very good cross between hobby/toy

This is a very good cross between a toy RC car and a hobby grade RC car. The initial packaging is lackluster, but in the end you just throw that away so its not the biggest deal. The car itself is a very nice step into the world of RC car's. Real shocks, real tires, adjustable linkages, wheels are bolted on. Its on its way to being the real deal! You get two battery packs and a charger, along with the car itself and a controller. The controller is basic and feels a bit cheap, but works well and has a nice foam grip on the turning knob. Use: The car is fast! In my driveway I can get it to easily break loose and do 180's and 360's. Also, it goes through my grass just fine, and is a nice off road buggy as designed. Battery life is decent, probably a good 15 minutes of use before performance declines. One thing to note though, is that the battery REALLY drops off fast, so it can die far away from you. Once the battery starts to go, its just a minute or so before its completely dead. Overall, this is a very good buy, especially at this price point and getting it from a big box store.

This is not just another RC car; it is for sure a couple of steps up from the usual RC car. So much mortification is possible if you are an enthusiast. It comes with two batteries and they last for 15 mins approx individually. Considering the speed this thing catches; I am not surprised by the battery consumption. And it is great that they have packed an additional with the package. Kudos. It is not suitable to play in living room; we have a free road next to our house and that is where we try it. And boy is it fast. Its faster than any RC car we have owned. I could not try it off road but on road it runs fine, controls are good and this thing does great donuts. Build quality is very good; there is definitely heft in this; considering the weight and the speed; its no wonder it consumes that much battery. My teen son and me :) are having loads of fun with it; a lot more than that Sphero. And Redcat, I will be looking for more products from you.

This Redcat buggy is a huge step up from all the cheap toys out there. I'm pretty new to the RC car thing but this is pretty easy to drive but it also can go pretty fast which really makes it a lot more challenging. The rechargeable batteries last long enough and it came with a spare so you can always have one ready to go. I wouldn't recommend this for a younger child, say maybe at least 10 years old, because with the speed this thing can carry and how much it weighs it can cause some damage to things it might run into. That said, it's a lot of fun to drive around the driveway and yard on a nice day.

This is the perfect setup for the entry level RC enthusiast. It comes ready to use right out of the box with 2 7.2V NiMH batteries and the controller. Once we charged a battery and plugged it in, we were off to the races. My son and I had the best time playing with this car. We live in a cul-de-sac and have a nice paved area to let it loose in. 20 mph does not sound very fast, but for an RC car it is fast. My son any I took turns setting up jumps and making obstacle courses. It makes for a great bonding experience. After using it a few times now, I must say that this is an impressive little car at this price point. I would highly recommend.
