Dawn of the planet of the apes comes to you in spectacular 4k with a bonus bluray disc and digital code. There are some instances where shadow detail can get lost a little bit since the majority of the movie tends to lean heavily on its cold blue and dark gray tones against areas with deep pitch black shadow. Because of this I would recommend watching this movie in a pitch black setting to get the most out of its hdr10 presentation. With that said, it has really nice detail uptick in many areas of the movie over the standard blu ray which is nice as this movie was shot digitally and was upscaled from a 2k intermediate. Also, what would pretty visuals be without a story to go with it, Dawn of the planet of the apes delivers here.

The Planet of the Apes franchise has always fascinated me but I hadn't been interested until seeing Rise of the Planet of the Apes a few years back. The emotional depth that that film brought to the table was unparalleled in terms of big blockbusters. I was attached to Caesar and several of the other apes. That movie surprised everyone so it isn't much of a surprise that the sequel 'Dawn' looked even better as they hired Matt Reeves as the replacement director. The special effects are some of the best I have ever seen and the acting was surprisingly outstanding. The trailers looked incredible so my excitement was about as high as it could possibly be for an apes movie. And the film doesn't disappoint.

Great color and special effects. Fight scene on bridge is killer.

Great movie, it take this planet of the Apes to a new level

I saw the first movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes and have it for BluRay I got here at BestBuy.com for around $4 during a sale, and this sequel is even better! I was going to rent Dawn of the Planet of the Apes to see if it was any good after seeing mixed reviews about it, but I really liked the trailers & previews I saw about it and got the BluRay for $10 + free shipping. I got the BluRay in perfect shape and quickly by mail, and I was amazed and surprised how fantastic the movie was seeing it in 1080 HD at my 40" TV. Wow! I loved every minute of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and I think it's an awesome sequel to the first great movie. If they make a 3rd sequel I will look forward to it. Great movie. Loved it.

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is the sequel to "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and the second installment of the newly re-booted franchise. The sequel picks up approximately ten after the end of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and shows us how the city of San Francisco has changed over time, as well as how dominant and powerful the apes have become. With this power that the apes have gained, it causes conflict between Caesar and Koba, which in turn causes conflict with the humans. As tensions grow, the apes must decide which ape they choose to follow and how to deal with their conflict with the humans. The entire movie is action packed and filled with great action sequences...you won't be disappointed!

It's a little overrated but it's great nonetheless.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a great demo disc. But much more importantly it is a rare movie where CGI is used to advance the telling of a story and to develop wonderful characters. By the time you are just a few minutes into the film it is easy to forget you are watching computer rendered apes and completely buy into the world the film makers give you. The soundscape is fully up to video side by by enveloping the viewer in a fantastic bubble of sound that never fails to transport to the world they have created. This Blu ray is a fine example of what this medium is capable of. Sight and sound every bit a good as the best that the movie theater can provide. A land mark disc- pure and simple.

Interesting story for this planet of the apes franchaise.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes may have had the more intriguing storyline, but Dawn definitely stepped up the action level. Anyone that says 3D doesn't make a movie more entertaining hasn't given 3D technology a legitimate chance. Dawn in 3D makes you feel like you are in the movie, with the amazing depth, but I wish they would have utilized more of the 3D "pop-out" effects during the action. The audio is really good too and was definitely making my subwoofer work! I'm not going to hold it against my review, but the 3D disc skipped, due to it being scratched when I got it. Stuff happens, but I will be exchanging it for another one.

I'm glad I purchased this for $10 from Best Buy! I enjoyed the movie, and I really enjoyed the 3-D. If you know the movie, you know that often the scenes are in the dark forest, with dark colored apes. But none of this prevent you from seeing all of the detail in the image. It's as though the cinematographer knew what he was doing! And as for the 3-D, as I said it was filmed in 3-D and has wonderful depth to it. It was very nice to see something filmed so well that at no point was I not able to see what I wanted to see, and see it in 3-D! If you're a fan of these Ape movies, and you can watch 3-D, I highly recommend this disk!

I feel like this is the kind of blockbuster that is often lacking from the summer calendar. Something with weight, something with drama, something with emotion. This is a triumph of cinema and is a showcase of how special effects can and should be used to create movie magic. I'm elated to see that the studio is taking this franchise seriously considering its acclaimed legacy. This film picks up after the fallout and uprising of the previous film, not only the advent of the talking apes, but also the disease that had ravaged humans that had only been alluded to in the original series. Cesar is a compelling figure and his struggle between two worlds is a journey worth taking.

A worthy sequel to the very great remake! This time the movie focuses more on the apes than the humans which in my opinion, helped the movie. The human cast was pretty good throughout the movie and the plot/story was a great follow-up to what the first movie laid out. Only quirk I had was not a whole lot of backstory on what actually happened after the events of the first. They mention a few things but you don't get the whole scope of what happened to the entire world. Maybe that is what they are setting up for...? Anyway, great movie overall and the steelbook packaging was another great one exclusive to Best Buy. If you can get your hands on one, I'd do it. It's pretty sweet!

This installment of the Planet of the Apes Movie does not disappoint. It is a well written and acted story involving conflict between the Apes and the Humans. The story will put you on the edge of your couch from beginning to the end. The apes are so convincingly rendered digitally and portrayed with realistic manners. The video is very viewable, but not cutting edge detailed. The 3D presentation provides natural depth without noticeable lost of detail vs. the 2D version. Very highly recommended.

This is a great steelbook and a pretty decent movie.

Good movie really enjoyed it for entertainment value

This is one of 2014's best movies so far. The story is original and creative, bringing more potential to characters from the first film. Every ape in the movie looks astoundingly real, with no flaws. Acting is solid, but some characters seem to be a bit flat. The music is not used throughout the movie as much as others, but brings great aid to some very emotional scenes. I enjoyed the movie thoroughly from start to end, and there weren't any painfully slow or dull moments. As for the rating, this movie is very violent, and contains one f bomb. If you liked the first film, you'll probably enjoy this one even more. One of my new favorites.

The movie always has some action that makes the movie watcher want to watch more of it. When the story shows that the humans have become endangered due to a man-made virus that apes and only a few humans can survive, you wonder if the story deals with finding a cure, but later you learn that the humans just want to gain access to a long-abandoned electrical plan in ape territory. You also never expect that all apes will fight against the humans, or all humans will fight against the apes. The movie has an intricate plot that shows that one should not generalize character or expect behavior.
