Great movie, but bad disc
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After weeks of trying to play on 2 Sony blu- ray players, and contacting Sony, and do all kinds of things to get it to play Sony told me the disc must be bad. I took it back to Best Buy and they replaced it at no cost with no problem. The new disc works perfectly.

Big Disappointment
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking forward to seeing this film in 3D, since the first one was so good. It was terrible. The story line was weak and the action scenes were few and far between.

Fun Steelbook of a Great Summer Flick
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the Apes films, dating back to being a child and enjoying the original 1968 production and it's mixed bag of sequels. One thing I've always loved, is for the most part, the films all feel different. Sure, there's themes that run throughout and even characters that appear more than once, but really, each film has it's own unique style and storytelling going on. This continues on with these two new Apes flicks, while this is certainly a sequel to the Rise film from a few years ago, it's also very different. Probably my favorite summer flick of 2014. The steelbook? It's not the best you'll ever see, but it's fun and feels right with the characters of the film. It also has inner artwork, which is nice. The blu-ray itself? Fantastic! The image absolutely stunned on my Samsung plasma, right from the opening with that great shot of Caesar's eyes and the camera pull out and forrest hunt that followed. The sound is absolutely spectacular as well, with a surround mix presented in lossless that just thumps and surround you with great ambience and effects, while also doing a great job of sound field separation so all dialogue is crisp and warm. The action sequences just look and sound fantastic. Highly recommended on all fronts!

Not as good as the first one
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."Fear makes others turn." Years after the Ape's rose up they have started their own civilization. Living in the hills of San Francisco they are peaceful and have evolved into even smarter beings. Humans on the other hand have been almost wiped out because of the simian virus and a small group has gathered in the city of San Francisco. When they face a power shortage a small group of humans hike up to the abandoned dam in hopes of restoring it. When the find the ape colony both civilizations have to fight for existence. I was never a big fan of the original Planet Of The Apes movies and really didn't like the remake with Marky Mark at all. When Rise of Planet of the Apes came out I wasn't expecting a lot but I really ended up liking it a lot. When this sequel came out I was actually excited to see it. While I didn't think this was as good as the first one (my wife liked it more though) it is still a very good movie and defiantly worth checking out. To me the first movie seemed like a deeper and richer story that was full of emotion and excitement. This one did have some emotional aspects and did have much more action then the first one but to me it didn't feel as full in story as the other one. On the other hand though the different aspects of the war : human vs. ape, ape vs. ape and human vs. human is what really made the movie. It's also a little disheartening knowing that no matter what species or race you are it only takes one to being about an end. Overall, another sequel that I didn't think was as good as the first one but I think may get better the more you watch it.

GREAT Movie/GREAT 3D/GREAT Metalpak!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a must see movie of 2014! Fantastic movie with a great story and special effects! This is also one of the better 3D movies of the year. If you liked Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the originals... then don't hesitate to pick this up. It may be the best of the series. If you are picking this up at Best Buy -- then definitely go with the metalpak over the amaray. The metalpak's are a lot nicer now, and this may be the best yet. Though try to pick it up in store, as Best Buy ships these in a manner that makes them very likely to come damaged.

Good movie with good cgi
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of 2014's best movies so far. The story is original and creative, bringing more potential to characters from the first film. Every ape in the movie looks astoundingly real, with no flaws. Acting is solid, but some characters seem to be a bit flat. The music is not used throughout the movie as much as others, but brings great aid to some very emotional scenes. I enjoyed the movie thoroughly from start to end, and there weren't any painfully slow or dull moments. As for the rating, this movie is very violent, and contains one f bomb. If you liked the first film, you'll probably enjoy this one even more. Not half bad!

Great Sequel
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I enjoyed Rise very much but I think I enjoyed Dawn even more. The CGI for the apes was incredible, the emotion and acting from the apes looked and felt more believable and better than that of the humans. They have done a great job with rebooting this franchise, looking forward to the third movie a lot.

Required viewing for a true "Apes" fan
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a huge fan of the original "Planet of the Apes" movie series (yes, even "Battle for the Planet of the Apes"), and I am thrilled to see this fresh take on classic characters. Incidentally, this movie is an update/remake of "Battle for the Planet of the Apes," and IMHO is a superior film. The acting, the special effects, and engaging plot even captured my wife's interest (who is decidedly NOT an "Apes" fan).

A must own for movie fans
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went to best buy to pickup some video games I preorded and seent this on the shelf. immediately when I seen the price $19.99 I grabbed it. Blu ray, Blu Ray 3D, Digital HD Copy and a steel book. It was an automatic must buy. I got home and popped this in my home theatre and was blown away by the attention to detail and also the 3D looked great. Most of the 3D movies I own go for that in your face pop but this was better, as the 3D aspect gave the film more depth and immersion. Awesome mush own movie.

One of the best movies of 2014!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I thought Rise of the Planet of the Apes was good, so I was excited to see the sequel and where they would go with it. This was MUCH better than what I thought it was going to be, I think it is even better than the first one! The motion capture was so good in this movie, at times, you would swear it was a real ape! On top of all this, the story was told really well! I would strongly recommend this movie to anyone who likes this series or just someone that wants to see a good drama!
