"Dawn" is a cool sequel that expands on the promise of "Rise" in very interesting ways. The story feels both personal and epic in scope, and it is well-written, well-acted, and well-directed. But the biggest selling point is the CGI, which uses motion-capture to convincingly convey a species of intelligent apes. Andy Serkis is the man, and his work as Ceasar in this movie alone is a testament to why he is so sought-after and is now involved in the Star Wars and Avengers franchises. This is a great movie to show off HDTV's and 3D BluRays, with gorgeous and sharp visuals. Highly recommended.

As the title says, my review is for the movie and not the added content as I rarely look at the additional content included with the Blu-ray. As I said in an earlier review for Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I think this is an excellent reboot of the series. The 1st movie did well to develop the story for how the apes got to this point and now Dawn is able to make it an action movie. It is a little over the top at times and younger kids might be disturbed by some of the violence and deaths, but that is why it is PG-13. It does set up the next movie which I am eager to see.

You definitely need to have seen the first movie in this series (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) before you see this movie because there are many references back to movie #1. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes had great character development (both humans and apes) and there was plenty of action and tense moments--with a little bit of humor thrown into the mix. I liked the fact that both good and evil existed in both worlds (humans and apes). I know second movies in a series are often disappointing, but this movie was not in the least a disappointment, and I highly recommend it.

I am a fan of the original series of Plant of the Apes films, but I have really been impressed with the newest films and the opportunities they are taking to explore the depth of ideas that was presented in the originals. In a story where mankind is the true villain, the writers and directors have crafted a community of apes that draws you close to them. Visually stunning special effects and great action make this one to add to any collection.

This review is for the packaging only: the movie itself is excellent, however. No sequel burn-out here. The Steelbook includes glossy front, back and interior art, all of different characters' menacing faces. Perhaps not the most inspired choices for all four art panels, but this is a nice package overall, especially with the inclusion of the 3D version of the film, something often (and frustratingly) omitted from many Steelbook exclusives.

I didn't think that a sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes could be any good or as good as its predecessor. The story and characters along with the special effects shine here all in that order. Watch the special features after you watch the main presentation. Always cool to see the hard work put into the motion capture that brings these ape performances to life! The full HD highlighting these effects appear flawless.

This is the sequel to the movie "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and I believe they did an excellent job with it. They carried over from the first movie, the spread of the virus which caused majority of the humans to die. The apes continued training their young and developing over time. Then the apes run into humans again and there is war between species. What I loved most was the special effects and motion capture...just awesome!

Sometimes sequels aren't as good as the original but this one is way better than the first. The acting and visuals are top notch and has some great action set pieces. They did a great job in not making you hate either the humans or apes which is hard to accomplish. You realize that they are both good but there's some bad eggs on both sides. If you would have hated one and routed just for one I do not think it would have been as good.

I recently purchased Dawn of The Planet of the Apes on Blu Ray 3D at Best Buy & I highly recommend it to friends and family... The opening scene (without spoiling it for whomever have not saw it yet) is totally unreal between the clarity of the graphics & the 3D visual effects... The only other thing that would be better is if BestBuy would have had the "Upgrade & Save" in order for me to save $5...

After searching and reviewing many TV's we ended up purchasing a 7150 series Samsung 65" 3D, HD smart TV the begining of December 2014 and it was delivered and set up on December 23rd. by Geek squad of Best Buy. What 1st sold us on the TV was the incredible clarity and sharpness of the picture and the 2nd was the very competative price. Now having owned the TV for about 3 weeks we absolutly love the TV any highly recommend this TV.

After seeing so much advertisement and wonderful early impressions of the 3rd movie, I thought it would be a good time to pick up a copy of the 1st & 2nd film and watch them again and to my surprise, they hold up perfect! Still as amazing as the first time I watched it. My wife and I throughly enjoy this series and will be checking out the 3rd film this weekend using the free ticket included.

We saw the first of the new series of Planet of the Apes movies in the theater. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the storyline and the special effects. I grew up watching/loving the originals and the new version did not disappoint. This one we did not see in the theater, but was even more impressive than the first from a CGI/Special Effects and Sound perspective...even on my home theater system...BLOWN AWAY!!!!!!

I had to watch the first 10 minutes of this movie via the DVD, in order to make this review, because my Cyberlink software now claims I need to update it for 3D Blu-ray playing of these newer movies. Great movie, great acting/writing, etc. But I'm so angry at Cyberlink for bundling an ancient version of their software with my Blu-ray burner/player, making it unusable in such a short time, that I'll hold off watching the movie until I can afford to buy a DIFFERENT brand of software. Looks like this movie will be amazing in 3D, though.

Continues about ten years or so after the Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie. Seeing hundreds of Apes running around in 3D coming at you, running over you, and by you... lt's an AMAZING visual frenzy. And great story too.

I really enjoyed this movie it has great acting specially the motion capture apes were awesomely rendered and greatly acted by everyone I mean they created these characters that came to life own screen just a pleasant movie to enjoy action-packed what more can you say it's a lot better than the first one even though the first one was great even greater it just adds more...wait to see what the next one's going to bring

Let me start by saying that the movie was in excellent condition when it was picked up. I missed the chance to see this film in theaters, but many friends and acquaintances stated that it did not disappoint. It was a little dreary, slightly overdramatic, but some of the action sequences were phenomenal. I watched the movie in 3d and it was alright. Not much of it was in 3d as most was CGI, but it was still enjoyable.

Saw War for the Planet of the Apes in theaters and decided to purchase the prequels of the film (which I had never watched). Bought this over the regular blu ray because this one also comes with the 3D and it was on sale. The quality of the blu ray movie is great; however this is only getting a 4/5 stars from me because of the Eco-Case, which I find ridiculous.The case is weak and flimsy and there are large portions of the plastic removed. You have to be careful when dislodging the disc.

Well done and looking forward to the 3rd installment soon to be released. If your searching for 4k content, you can add this to your collection and all though there are some cheap acting scenes with the stereotypical oafish humans, you will still get to enjoy a satisfactory home movie experience that leaves you wanting more.

This movie is leaps and bounds better than rise of the planet of the apes. I was surprised how well the story of Caesar was told and fleshed out. This movie was an epic spectacle you need to witness to fully appreciate the characters and it's story. It's very rare that a sequel outshines the original in every way possible. I truly look forward to the third movie, war for the planet of the apes.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a much darker sequel to its predecessor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. This vivid, violent extension of humanoid ape Caesar's troubled quest for independence bests its predecessor in nearly every technical and conceptual department. I highly recommended it! P.S. Also the Best Buy's exclusive steelbook is a beautiful and must-have addition to any fan's collection.
