A Sequel That Lives Up To The Original

I got what I was looking for here and then some. With the first movie establishing the tone, I was hoping for more of the same. This gave that to me with a twist and upgrade. I enjoyed this one much more than I thought I would, and I loved the first and was anticipating this release. Thankfully I left the theater already asking why I still had my money in regard to a potential Deadpool 3. 2018 is a great year for Josh Brolin, as he has 2 massive films releasing about a month apart. Cable is the straight man here and provided a nice focal point for humor. There is no need to know about his comic background, and it is altered significantly here from the books. The humor is excellent and, having already seen it twice in theaters, will be infinity rewatchable. If you were hesitant, worry not. Blind buy this one if you liked the original. I’ll stop here as if I get into specifics of any kind I could ruin aspects of the movie. The steelbook art should look familiar if you say through the credits of the last film. It’s not the nicest art but it’s pure Deadpool and is appropriate. While there’s a standard blu-ray/dvd combo available, I spent the extra five bucks to future proof this one. Why not? It’s five bucks.

A Family Movie that's not for Kids

This review is NOT written by a Deadpool fan. Lets get that out of the way. I find Deadpool amusing, but easily annoying. Now... Deadpool 2. The 4th wall breaking, merc with a mouth is back in the sequel to his 2016 debut. If you're not familiar with Deadpool, he's a self-aware comic book hero that not only knows he's in a movie, video game, comic book, or whatever, but Deadpool uses that to his advantage. Additionally, Deadpool cannot die. His healing factor is so strong that being blown to bits only delays the inevitable.... he will find you... you will die. The story starts off with Deadpool killing. He loves killing. As live would have it, his killing catches up with him. An incomplete contract comes back to  destroy all that he loves. This propels Deadpool into a deep depression. Trying to end his own life, Deadpool realized he’s unable. He survives every attempt due to his healing factor. As the movie progresses, Deadpool joins up with the X-Men, screws it up, goes to jail, then decides he needs to save the future from a psychotic mutant. Yeah… it’s confusing like that. What worked is the many references to pop culture. Deadpool rips on Logan (2017), the Avengers franchise, DC movies, Panic Room (2002), and more. It’s a lot like watching Blazing Saddles. Audiences appreciate the references now, but years from now, the references won’t be pop culture. A weak point in the plot was how the psychotic mutant enlists the help of Juggernaut. There was a quick scene that didn’t allude to much connection, but somehow they’re friends? The end of the movie was supposed to be more touching, but amidst the many gags and punchlines, it was hard to take it seriously. While that’s sorta the point, it ruined what could’ve been a good ending. A side complaint was Domino. The comic character was so much more epic than her representation in the movie. Yes, Domino is a side character, but it’s still better to stick to the source material than reinterpret the character as “Lucky Girl”. At least we didn’t get a Wolverine Origins Deadpool. Then again…. The movie addresses that. I wasn’t a fan of the first Deadpool movie. It was raunchy and rude. Deadpool 2 toned this down to appeal to a wider audience. I’m not a Deadpool fan, but I did enjoy this movie enough to consider a purchase. I would recommend it.

    Super Duper Film x 2

'Deadpool 2' was so hilarious I was curled up laughing to the point I was in pain through nearly the entire film. Ryan Reynolds delivers again with a perfect performance of the 'Merc with a Mouth' Deadpool. He really pulled me in to the point I was so immersed that when the credits started rolling I could scarcely believe the movie was already over! The other characters (Cable, Domino, Weasel, Ect.) were all fantastic too. I found this sequel to be a couple notches more enjoyable than the first one, personally. The story just seemed to flow a little bit better and the larger cast worked very well together opposed to Deadpool going solo for most of the film. I roaring good time this movie was and perhaps my absolute favorite from the Marvel franchise, Sony or otherwise. Looking forward to watching it again and again.

Better than the first! Hilarious, Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool. This one is about Deadpool finding purpose as he tries to be an X-Men while coming across a young powerful mutant who's future ties with Cable, a cyborg mutant bent on destroying him.

This movie is absolutely amazing. It hit more personal matters for Wade Wilson and Cable. It showed the softer side of Wade that wasn't as well shown in the first one. Plot was well written, and character well developed.

Please don't watch these with your kids. Probably my 2nd favorite role of Ryan Reynolds after 2 Guys a Girl and a Pizza Joint. The super cut features alternate jokes but honestly the best are in the theatrical. Movie looks great in 4k.
