Perfect casting, especially John Malkovich, and fairly true to the article it was created from; Last Hours of Deepwater Horizon, published in 2010 by the New York Times. It accurately points the finger at British Petroleum for this country's worst environmental disaster.

Another great disaster movie. I am really into these kind of movies. What I did not realize is that this movie is based on the true story about the oil spill (or explosion) in the Gulf Of Mexico. This movie is great and I am so glad I purchased this one. Really helps you to understand what happened in the Gulf waters during that time. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes disaster movies... and movies that are based on true stories. Mark Wahlberg was awesome in this movie. One of my favorite actors. Purchase this movie !!

this was an ok movie. not the best, not the worst.

This is a great movie. The only negative part of it is that if you never worked in the oilfield you may not understand half of what they are talking about. I was a Cementing Engineer for Schlumberger for 10 years, so I understand the entirety of what happened. But if you look past the technical stuff you dont understand and realize the movie is about the people who where on the rig that day, that's what is important. Thats the risk we have to take everyday on the rigs, just so we can have electricity, heat, and cars in our lives.

Surprisingly, a movie about a semi-submersible, mobile, floating, dynamically positioned drilling rig (spoilers) exploding, is fast paced and action packed. Undoubtedly though, the main reason to own this film is for the mesmerizing and enthralling Dolby Atmos soundtrack. The sound is constantly bouncing around the room from start to finish. Highly recommend.

I guess my TV truly does a great job at pushing blu ray to 4K. I just purchased a 4K player and Deep Water Horizon in UHD. I believe that the picture was super played up by people I've talked to, because I did not notice a huge difference, but the difference in audio on my home theater was AMAZING. I was ducking in my chair, the dogs were going crazy, it was mayhem, but in a fun sense of the word. The sound and the movie itself are the reasons for the five stars, but that alone was enough to Love it.

This movie is a lot better since it's based on a true story. It's SO great the way they left out the politics generated from the wacko environmentalist!! Good for them for ignoring those NUTS!!! Thank you Best Buy for your video section!! I'm dependent on you for my home entertainment. Please DON'T STREAM!! Streaming is good as far as it goes, however you're totally dependent on someone else's server!! That gives them way too much power on what you watch!! I want a hard copy in my hand!!!

"Deepwater Horizon" is a solid action film from director Peter Berg. It details the events leading up to, and including, the oil rig disaster which occurred in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010, resulting in the worst oil spill in U.S. waters. Characters are well drawn and the plot steams along to it's inevitable conclusion. The visual fx, sound design, and score are first rate, and are beautifully rendered on this Bluray. Well worth the purchase price for a movie of this genre.

If you had asked me 20 years ago who some of my favorite actors would be, Mark Wahlberg would not of been one of them.... I have to concede though that I definitely have enjoyed the majority of his roles although his music career left something to be desired as far as I'm concerned. Deepwater Horizon is of course based on the BP oil spill of a few years ago, the cast does an outstanding job here which is to be expected considering some of the people they have in this movie

What an excellent depiction of the worst oil spill in US history! The movie provided information on the victims and personal stories of those on board this rig. The action was packed and realistic. Felt sorry for those who could not return to their families as well as the impact on the animals of the sea and those who made a living from the sea. Stuff happens when the focus is on just making the almighty dollar with total disregard for the welfare of others.

I really enjoyed this movie. I knew the basic story from docs I'd purchased and news coverage. It was an excellent telling of as much of the story as they could include in the time they had I felt. There's not enough time to explore everyone's story but you still care about all the characters who are affected by the decisions to cut corners by a small group of people. Great special features included as well on the blu-ray, don't know about the dvd.

This movie played out before us in real life on all National TV& Cable stations.When I watched the movie it was like reliving it again, I caught myself crying and praying for the actors. They did an awesome job in the directing and producing to be able to bring it back to life like it played out in real life on April 20 2010. It's a must see film of the year!

Director Peter Berg seemingly loves telling true to life stories about extraordinary events. Deep water Horizon is a story needing to be exhumed and retold through the perspective of the lead character because it allows us to learn what truly happened that day when the largest oil spill to have happened in the Gulf Coast. All of this could have been avoided had safety been at the forefront, but today he we are learning from the mistakes of the past just as we always do. In 4K the movie looks great, not outstanding by any stretch of the imagination. I would recommend if it was slightly cheaper because $30 for this movie is a bit steep.

I remember when this event occurred and the resulting fallout. I feel that the movie was a very well done while based on true events. I found the portrayal of the BP execs to be fairly accurate, in that they considered themselves superior both intellectually and experience-wise to the workers that spend most of their lives doing the job. It is a shame that this incident could have been easily avoided by listening to the men that really knew what they were doing and possibly erring on the side of safety instead of the "bottom line" or "company line." There is enough action for those wanting it and insight into what really happened.

As someone that works for 1 of the companies investigated, I must say this movie really shines a light on some of the issues that occur when corners are cut and jobs aren't done properly! One thing the movie failed to mention was that permission to alter the bop aka Blowout Preventer, was granted by the Office of Minerals Management! They were never mentioned ever. They are just as guilty as BP and TransOceanic, imo.

Most of have read about the oil well disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. This movie goes into detail of the struggles of the survivors and the ones that did not make it. It is one of those special movies that pulls you into the story. After seeing this movie, I really got a lot more respect for the people who went through this event. This is just a great movie that I will watch more than a few times. Highly recommended.

This is a fantastic movie with a absolutely incredible UHD Blu-ray presentation. Its a great looking disc with above average picture and HDR quality. But the true joy of this disc is its Dolby Atmos soundtrack. It truly is a audiophile's dream come true. Every speaker in my 5.1.4 Atmos system was actively used through out the movie. If you have the proper audio setup, you owe it to yourself to experience this film.

Based on a true story, this movie was good from start to finish. Superb special effects. It made you feel like you were there, not just watching a movie. Even though I already knew the outcome I rooted for good things to happen under horrific circumstances. For the oil company it was more about deadlines and profits than it was about the safety of the workers on their oil rigs. Great movie.

whether or not you are in Oil & Gas or Offshore operations this tells some of the story about why procedures and safety protocols are now in place to prevent situations like this from happening again. Some things are a little Hollywood, and there are many shots with actual drilling equipment which provide a good story and for some get to see the equipment they manufacture and work with daily. Last note this industry has been hit hard and would benefit by having people see what actually goes on and the danger for people to gas their cars, to make plastic, chemicals, and many other uses though out the world.

Yet depressing as well when you remember this really happened. I enjoy Mark Wahlberg in almost everything he does, ditto with Kurt Russell, and John Malcovich makes an awesome bad guy as usual, um Rounders anyone? The highlight of the film is when the rig explodes. If you're not setup for ATMOS when watching this you need to be, it's as if the house is coming down around you. Enjoy!
