Customers are saying

Customers are pleased with the BP-9020's exceptional sound quality, encompassing impressive bass and clear highs. Many appreciate the ease of use and powerful performance, although some find the speakers large and heavy. Positive feedback also highlights the Dolby Atmos feature and sleek design. While the price point is noted by some, many feel it's justified by the overall quality.

Alright so I bought an rp8000 and one of these towers. The rp8000 cost 600 when not on sale however the def tech tower covers 3 speakers. The Dolby Atmos piece doesn't work super well imo, the idea of shooting sound off a perfectly flat ceiling when everyone has popcorn or angles ect means it often doesn't work. The subs they built into these towers are pretty good and voices sounded better than the rp8000 on these. With that said the rp8000 produces mids that sound more filled out than these as well as has more natural sounding instrumental sounds in songs. When watching ready player one 4k car scene I preferred the sound of the rp8000 as I heard more detail from their horn loaded tweeters. I feel the def tech speakers are a competitive price if they are between 750-800 USD but I would never recommend them at full price. I got mine for 629 a piece open box on sale. I'm going to sell them to a buddy though because even at that price they don't sound good enough for me.

I am repairing some high-end speakers and just wanted some middle-of-the-road L & R speakers for my home theater setup. These fit the bill. Not exciting. Not disappointing. Works as described.

    Beware of defective amplifiers

Bought two BP-9080X as part of a all-Definitive 9.2 Atmos system. Immediately, the L and R and C powered speakers would make a very loud popping sound when they would auto-shutoff after we stopped listening. Contacted Definitive Support and they replied it sounded like defective integrated amplifiers, they would send replacements, and I could install in the speakers myself. Unfortunately, those amplifiers are out of stock and have been for months. They will not send us replacement speakers. Incredibly disappointed and debating ripping out the entire system and replacing it with another brand.

    Bad experience and known issue

Not a good experience at all. I wanted these speakers to work so bad, it pained me to return them. When they are working, they are amazing speakers and probably the best I’ve heard for the price, but the problem is, what you read about the popping noise along with the sub going out is 100% true. They make the loud pop sound and the sub stops working and Definitive Technology has known about this issue for a long time and does not address it. Shame on them for throwing a known issue out ther and hoping it “just works.” I’m very disappointed that I had to go through the trouble to return these, fyi…I purchased based on demo in store and then researched. Shame on me, do your research.

Very impressed at the store. Brought it home within a day the tweeter went out (crackling). Took it back. Replaced it with the same model, within 3 months the same issue, the tweeter is crackling. Store no longer accept return. Hoping to hear back from manufacturer but nothing so far. Very disappointed.

Since original def tech sold the company, quality sucks. Powered amp boards cause woofer popping about 15minutes after shut off Now geek squad told me cause i needed a surge protector, bought $600 panamax, did not help. Next GS guy said it was cause of the receiver, so bought $1200 yamaha. Yea not the problem either

Item was defective. Amp would stay on non stop. I called Def Tech and they said to either wait two months for a new amp or return the speakers. Sticking to passive speaker for home theater

I was first introduced to this when it was on display at the Mangolia Center at Best Buy... and wow it was booming. I came home and looked online and saw that there were some open box ones on sale so I picked them up. Came home and plugged them in and voila! These speakers do good in design, bass, and punch. I do them find them pricey at ONE for a THOUSAND DOLLARS but overall they produced good sound, good quality, and a good buy. Thank you Best Buy and Def Tech.

These speakers are amazing! I have owned them for 6 months now and they keep on impressing me. When I tried them out in the store I really wasn't too impressed with them, they sounded ok but not remarkable.I think they were crossed over in the receiver and didn't deliver the bass I was hoping for but I purchased them anyways with a 9080 center channel knowing I could return if they disappointed me at home. Once I got them setup in my media room I was blown away by the bass that these things produce! I have them set at just under 1/2 of the bass control knob and they fill my large room with chest pounding rock solid bass. Throw in a UHD movie like the battle scene from "Hacksaw Ridge" and be prepared to glue down anything that's not permanently affixed in your house! It's not just the bass that makes these speakers sound awesome, they also produce a beautifully neutral upper end too that does not fatigue your ears at high volumes. There is really nothing not to love about these speakers. If you're thinking about giving them a try, I highly recommend doing so and be sure to try them in your own room, you wont be disappointed!

    Excellent home speakers!!!!

I purchased these speakers on sale,($326.00 per tower 9-1-16) and paired them with a Yamaha 5.1 amp. These speakers are outstanding. I did not purchase any other speakers for my home. The sound clarity is simply amazing and the enclosed sub-woofers really pack a punch. You hear incredible highs and imposing lows. I play music and watch TV and these speaker do it all with amazing sound. I really like that that when watching TV or movies, it sounds like a I have a center speaker and other surround speakers and I don't . I did a lot of research on these speakers and all of the reviews are correct. You will not be disappointed in your investment. Bottom line, these speakers when paired with a proper amp will change your life!!

Great speakers, gets better with age!

Love these speaker. I have had them for over a yr and they have only gotten better. I went back and forth on these or the 9040s and ultimately went with these. I haven't had any regrets. I will say the bass from these speakers are awesome and at full clip my wife can feel the bass upstairs. If your a true bass head though, you will need a subwoofer to hit those super low points in music and movies. Also if you listen to a lot of hip hop or any bass heavy music, these speaker won't handle the bass too well. I have to turn the bass down on the receiver(Yamaha RX-A770) so they wont start clipping. These are great with movies! Every movie sounds great on these, so if that's your main reason for getting these you definitely won't be disappointed.
