Had to replace my center speaker in my awesome 7.2.2 system. This one was good but didn’t give me the voice clarity that I wanted. Returned it...finally found what I needed in a Sony, on sale at BB for $75. Sometimes, more expensive doesn’t mean better.

I got these and wasn’t happy at all, the sound between these and the low end Sony brand center speaker sound the same. I returned them and got the Klipsch center speaker and OMG.

I returned this center channel speaker because it was too small for my purpose. The sound didn't seem much better than the speaker I was replacing so I kept my old one.

I bought this with high expectations. The sound is mediocre compared to my old (and now broken) ELAC center speaker. I personally think it is overrated and over priced.

Will be getting a bigger center channel speak, just feels a bit under powered and it is not the receiver.

    Just Amazed!

I am so amazed out how great this center channel speaker is! I currently have the Bose acoustimass cube speakers and the sound from the center speaker was horrible. The dialogue was very muddy and muffled, it was hard to understand when I would watch movies. I decided to by a center speaker to fix the problem and so I went with the Bose VCS-10 thinking that it would work a lot better and to my surprise, it sucked! There was no difference. I then went with a Polk Audio CS-10 and it sounded a lot better then the Bose one but the speaker was too bulky. I was then recommended by a friend to try the Definitive Technology Pro 1000 center speaker and it was like day and night. It sounded better than the Polk audio one and 1000 times better then the Bose Speaker. Best of all, the speaker is very low profile, I was amazed out how clear the dialogue is and how strong this speaker is, I love it!!! The funny thing about all this is that I had never heard of Definitive Technology speakers, I am glad I do now, if the rest of their speakers are like this center channel one then I am sold!!! Best center speaker available in the $200 price range. With the sound you get from this center channel speaker, it can easily sell for more, thanks Definitive for not over pricing!!!

As the DT ProCenter 1000 is perfectly suitable for small to medium rooms, the CS9040 is a perfect match for your BP9040 tower speakers.

We bought the speaker so we could hear better dialogue on TV. The improvement is significant though we still have a somewhat difficult time on shows with a lot of background noise or music.

I bought this in the discounted section, like an open box, and tested it a few days. I have two JBL standing 3-way speakers that I use for my audio system. I connected this center speaker, but the sound, like movie dialogue, is not clear enough for me. When I removed it from my system, I can clearly hear and understand the dialogue coming from my standing speakers. I am not sure if this is just the speaker I got. Unfortunately, I have to return this one.

I always research costly purchases to death and this time was no exception. So when over 95% of the reviews for this center speaker, the Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000, on Best Buy's site and other web sites exclaim its virtues I listen. Literally. I was looking to replace my Bose center speaker because either my hearing was declining or the speaker just didn't emit the clear voices I needed to enjoy a movie. My wife was getting tired of telling me " what they said ". I do have 2 Def. Tech. ProMonitor 800's that I'm using as my front speakers in my 5.1 system and they are fantastic. But I checked out other brands for the center anyway. I guess I wasted my time doing that because I ended up getting the same brand for my new center. And as a bonus, they all match perfectly in size ratio and piano gloss finish! if you haven't heard Definitive Technology speakers, get over to Best Buy and do so. Bring along your MP3 player or a CD that you know well and listen to these speakers! You'll be glad you did!

Great product at a convenient size

I was skeptical about this product when a Best Buy representative showed it to me as frankly I didn't know the company. I had my personal limitations on the size of the center channel speaker - I wanted to keep it just under the TV in a small front- open compartment. When I saw the product and heard the sound in the store I thought of giving it a try. So far it had been great ! I have 4 in-ceiling speakers from Polk and a subwoofer from Klipsch. They had pre-wired for the center speaker on the ceiling itself which is not at all good idea.I had my inclination for the Klipsch model as the reviews were so good and I love my Klipsch subwoofer. However the size is not right for the space I have- same for Yamaha. As I spent more time with the this product, I could not find any justification to return it - love the clarity of the sound and the depth. Also check the frequency range it supports - not many speakers at this price range support such a vast range. You can feel it when you have only dialogues playing in a movie or even playing an AM radio station - 90% of the sound is coming through this one speaker at those times and it brings all the words and sounds with great crispness/ clarity. I am going to keep it and you should also consider this "not so well known" product when you are planning to buy a small center channel speaker for your house :-)

Now I hear what I've been missing!

Two months ago, I purchased the Onkyo 608 AVR . With the HTIB speakers it sounded better, but still lacking on dialogue. I read many reviews on Definitive Tech, went to BB Magnolia and gave it a listen. I asked to hear the ProCenter 1000 with the Onkyo 608. I was pleasantly surprised. It is a small speaker (14" wide) but fits nicely on my HT stand. Connected it with banana plugs and noticed the difference right away! Sound is very good, and now it is broken in, it sounds even better. It has great range with highs and bass. I have the crossover set at 120 hz, that is what the Audessey eq put it at on the Onkyo. It does handle the power of the receiver easily. I haven't heard any distortion. I don't play movies or music extremely loud (I'm on the 2nd floor). About a month ago I paired it with 2 Pro-Monitor 800 for the front. Sounds great! and it flows seamlessly across the channels. I watched "Field of Dreams" recorded on my DVR to test the "quiet" volume. I could hear, the rustling of the cornstalks, the wind, and birds chirping in the background. I also heard very clearly, the whisper of the line "If you build it, he will come." I know it may sound lame, but most reviews state how loud it is or how much the bass thumps, but never subtle sounds. The Def Techs handled all the ranges I threw at it, including all the battle scenes from various Bluray movies. Music sounds very good also. Tried some Classic Rock from the Comcast Digital Music channels. A Vivaldi CD, and a Pink Floyd "Dark side of the Moon" CD. Yep, it was all good! Very good blending of the speakers. I will eventually replace the surrounds and sub with Def Techs in the future. But for now, everything sounds great. I admit, I'm not an audiophile, but I like what I'm hearing!
