    Great Center Channel Speaker

First of all i am a real person writing a real review. I was searching for a quality center speaker in the $300-$400 range for my living room set-up. I was on the north side of indy one weekend and found a best buy with a magnolia home theater store inside of it. I was primarily looking at the klipsh, polk, and pioneer center speakers that most best buys carry but magnolia had a slew of options. After listening to the ones in my price range i had made my mind up on the martinlogan motion 8. it did sound fantastic but the employee insisted that i listen to the definitive tech 1000. It literally blew my girlfriend and i away. It sold me instantly. The sound clarity is impeccable. The martin logan is a very good speaker do not get me wrong, but this speaker was truly amazing and $200 cheaper. Ive been using the definitive tech. ceneter speaker for roughly 2 months and i am very happy with my choice. It compliments my Bose 201's, Bose redlines jewels, my klipsh 12 inch powered sub , and my harmon kardon 1700 nicely. I hope my review helps.

A great piece for a great price

My friend had recommended this piece to me quite a while back and so I went ahead and purchased it right after Christmas with some gift-cards. Needless to say this has just raised the bar another notch on my home-theater system. I now have a 3.1 system consisting of a Definitive Technology Pro-Center 1000 Center-Channel, Martin Logan Motion 10 Floor-Standing Speakers, and a Klipsch SW350 subwoofer. This is all run through a Pioneer VSX-920 receiver. My test on any new piece of equipment is the opening scene of Top Gun. This unit just made a distinct difference in the overall sound quality and awesomeness of it. It's a sleek unit that can be put right in front of your TV or mounted above. You can either put the speaker wires right to it or use banana plugs (I used the latter). I would highly recommend this unit to anyone who wants great sound for a reasonable price.

    ProCenter 1000

Value for price: Checking around Magnolia Home Theater's speaker selection, I narrowed down my choice between an Energy center speaker, and the ProMonitor 1000. Both of these speakers had great high level sound. Crisp clear voices eminated from both. However, on a comparison of the sounds when music was played in Dolby ProLogic II Music decoder the ProCenter really stood out. They sound was amazing, esepcailly paired with the ProMonitor 1000 speakers. Sound Quality: The sound is able to fill a 14ft x 16ft with full fidelity. Ambience in dolby digital sounds are easily distinguishable, and music sounds fantastic. I am almost positive anyone who hears them in the Magnolia home theater will agree, for its size, they have a full, rich and strong sound. Appearance: The gloss finish on this speakers is crisp and clean. The speaker fits right at home in dark woods. As far as center speakers, it isn't huge, but is quite heavy. Mounting wasn't an option for myself, but it looks great in front of my Samsung LED TV.

POWER...Yet perfect clarity for those quiet scenes

I purchased this speaker having not replace my center channel since the mid 90's and with my current system its like sending a 90 year old into high school, just not a good mix so i wanted to make sure i found the right speaker for my system. After looking around for over a month i found this speaker and was very cautious, so after listening to this speaker on different days i bout it. this speaker has a ton of power for ANY system and it is as clear for the quiet movie scenes, well worth the money. If you have trouble hearing this in your system dont blame this speaker. Don't let the size fool you.

DEFTECH ProCenter 1000 - Exceptional Value

First off, I have the speaker teamed up with two Pinnacle DB2000 tower speakers in front, and two Pinnacle BD1000 tower speakers for the rear surround, and a Pioneer SW-8 100 watt powered SUB. This is all powered by a Yamaha RX-V671 7.1 receiver. I was initially worried that my speakers would belittle the sound of this speaker, given it's size. I was mistaken. This speaker is great for any level audiophile. Made some slight tweaks to the center channel EQ with my A/V Receiver, and it was all set. Works great in quiet settings, and also works great when cranked up with surround to get that in theater feel. At low volumes, dialogue is crisp and clear and easy to hear, and at higher levels, voice and center channel production is powerful and fills the room with rich sound. Played a wide array of music once I set this up, from Kanye West, to Michael Buble, to Pink Floyd and everything in between, and I was not disappointed there either. You can hear all the detail, down to the individual pluck of each guitar string! Other thoughts: Only reason I marked power 4/5 stars is how it sounded in the magnolia room compared to other center channel speakers of it's price range. But don't let it's size fool you, some slight tweaks on my receivers center channel EQ (increasing 200-500hz db) and it sounded as powerful as the other, larger center channel speakers. I would venture to say, if you are spending $200 plus on a center channel, then I hope you would have a A/V Receiver to properly power this speaker.

Best center channel for the money

i bought this speaker to enhance my surround sound system. Im running a high end denon receiver with two floor standing Polk audio speakers for the fronts (btw are also good) and KHT 1000 series speakers to supplement the 7.1 surround speakers. I made the switch from the KHT satellite center speaker to this center channel. I can tell you that its awesome and if your thinking of upgrading then make the switch. Im pretty particular when it comes to buying things and I wanted to make sure I got the best bang for my buck. I went into Best Buy and tested the Definitive Center against the Polk center, Klipsh center and Bose center. To my suprise..even know they are all similar in price...nothing compared to Definitive....and I mean nothing really even came close in my opinion. I then tested the 200 dollar model to the 500 dollar model and was hard pressed to hear much difference. Its a great speaker all around and will bring out the voices like none other. If you dont believe me then go to your local best buy and test them all as I did and you will understand what Im talking about.

Powerful Sound out of a little speaker

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Don't let this little speaker fool you! It is small and can fit into a tight place and the sound is marvelous. I went to Magnolia and listened to this speaker compared to just about everything else in the store. It out did all but its brother the Definitive Technology CLR 2300, which is much larger in size and has a 8" subwoofer with 150 watt amp. Take away this other Definitive Technology speaker and you really don't have any competition for the the price and size.

The best $200 center channel on the market

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This center channel speaker has the best sound quality I've found for a $200 speaker. It has the same bi-polar technology that the larger Definitive Technologies floor standing speakers have but is in a much more compact form. It matches up well with the ProMonitor 1000's and ProSub 1000 for a great 5.1 system that isn't over-powering in a smaller to midsized room. I would recommend a Denon 2309 or higher model to power the satellites and give you all the new HD formats and HDMI up-conversion to match the BluRay players' capabilities.

    Def Tech is Tops

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

There is absolutely nothing on the market that can touch this center channel for the money. I researched and listened to different centers and this unit is by far the best in the $200-$250 price range. I used it to replace an old Bose cube that was not putting out the dialogue I had hoped for. This speaker buries the Bose and because it has the bass radiators on the side of the unit it gets a ridiculously low 47Hz on the frequency scale! I almost don't even need a sub with these Def Techs. The amount of bass punch (crystal clear) they put out is unreal for a speaker their size. Every other center I have researched can't touch the bass end of these (at least on paper) and the mid and highs are beautiful. I expect this center to blast off when I finally get a better receiver that pushes a bit more juice. Very happy with this purchase.

    Improvement Was Obvious

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Bought this speaker to upgrade the center channel, a Polk Audio 6752, in my home theater setup. Althought the physical footprint is small (a requirement for me), the improvement in center channel quality was dramatic! Dialogue was crisp, natural, and clear. Major improvements also were obvious in music and gaming sounds. Note that the Polk Audio speaker is a quality speaker (I will use it on a smaller bedroom system), but the ProCenter 1000 is much better, fills a large room, and is well worth its reasonable price.

    Great Product!

    • After reading many reviews from BB and other resources, I was confused why so called audiophiles tend to stray and/or have negative comments about DT speakers. I am no audiophile, but I love great sounding audio from movies and music. That said, I bought the Pro 1000 without hearing it first and connected it to my 5.1 system and was very impressed with what I heard. This speaker replaced and infinity (good speaker) and the audio quality improvement was immediately noticeable even before calibration. • The center channel information is very precise without being overbearing. In fact, this speaker blends very well with the rest of the speakers. I had been satisfied previously with the center channel being autonomous, but now I really like the improved sound stage and how I feel more surrounded (in a very good way) by the audio. I have become very accustomed to my original speakers over time, but I am now strongly considering a 100% DT speaker system. In a word, Bravo!

    I hear gunfire

I was keen on purchasing the Energy Center Channel Speaker but when I saw the size and depth of the speaker, it seemed a bit overwhelming. The sales person told me about this speaker and he had an open box for $149. I was hesitant about purchasing anything open box, but since it was a speaker and I had 30 days to return it, I gave it a shot. I used banana clips to hook it up and watch a movie and my wife was impressed that we did not have to turn up the volume to hear dialogue of the movie. What really impressed me is I later played Call of Duty, and I could distinguish the types of gunfire depending of my weapon of choice. Overall I'm impressed by the speaker.

Best center speaker for this price!!

Definitive technology speakers are some of the best speakers out there. I have compared them to others like klipsch, mirage, bose and still think they are the best for their price. I bought this center speaker to replace a precinema600 that I had and noticed the difference in power for the 1000. Definitively recommend try it and you'll see what a great speaker this is.

    AWESOME!!!

Got this for the basement, to go along with DT Pro 800's, Polk sub and Denon 1610 in a simple 3.1 setup. After hearing these together, I am strongly tempted to move my high end floorstanding Polks downstairs and get these Def Techs in the mix in the living room -- would use the 800s as surround and get either Pro 1000s or Mythos Gems for the front. As you can tell, I am now sold on Def Tech. MUCH better for MUSIC than Bose, which was previously my reference for small speakers -- Bose couldn't ever convince me that small could compete with big for music -- Def Tech has -- awesome!!

Great sounding center speaker! I have them with my BP7006's and SM350's for surrounds and surround backs. This is a great center channel for not a whole lot of money. It doesn't take up a lot of size for the sound that it can produce either.

Best Center Channel at Best Buy!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I concur with all other previous reviewers! This speaker is the best center channel at Best Buy currently. I bought it to go with a pair of 800 bookshelf speakers also by Definitive. Voices sound crisp and true to life, like the person talking is in the room. If you are looking for a cure to your lost dialogue in movies this is the speaker for you. I would say Definitive is the best out thier for subs, satellites, bookshelf, and center channel. All the speakers in my 9.1 home theater system are from Definitive and it makes watching anything from movies to sports an amazing experience.

I recently bought a pair of def tech 8060-St towers witch sound incredible but I also wanted a center for voices but didn't want too spend 700 dollars for the 8060 center.I went into BB too give this a listen after all the rave reviews on this.the demo they used to let me listen to this was transformers and I just listeded too this center.....WOW!....I couldn't believe what I was hearing from this center.....very impressive room filling sound from this speaker.Goes perfect with my towers. If your in need of a center don't pass this one up.....great speaker at a great price.....could easily sell for 350....I think it's a steal at 220.....very very impressive....:-)
